I get that for a large number of rows that this appears easier than just dragging down, but presumably every cell now has a formula in it that has to recalculate every time the sheet is updated. Not good practice having lots of unnecessary formulas. I guess you could copy the column and 'paste values' into the next column before deleting the first one. Same result but no unnecessary formulas left in the sheet.

Why to paste in next column when you can paste special there itself , you just need to copy all values then press alt+e+s paste as values,

Try holding down the ctrl key AFTER clicking the small square that appears in the lower right of the cell. Then drag down. (Also try Shift and Alt combinations)

There are various options to do the same thing, it's just that you can type whatever number you want exactly with just one formula so that you don't have to drag down and check whether you did type exact amount of numbers

The comment by the guy seems to imply as though his way of doing is better than what's been shown in the short. Now yes, it would've been a better way if we were working on 10-50-100 lines of data. But in places where datasets are huge and number of rows are in 1000s and more.. dragging or any manual operation is not just tedious but foolish. That's why knowlege of formulae is always important if u seriously wanna make a career out of data analysis.. if ur work weren't that serious and u can manage applying rookie level knowledge, good for u..

I believe you can also do something like day 1 then day 2 in the next cell, highlight both and then drag and drop when the mouse cursor turns into a black plus sign on the bottom right of the highlighted cells. Excel should see the pattern and continue it until where you drag and drop

Question. Instead of hard-coded the number of rows (365 in your example) could you use rows function to count the rows in the column beside?

Yes brother, there are various ways to do anything in MS Excel and each way has it's on uniqueness, like for larger and exact number of values it is good method, but if you just want to do it for small number of values and randomly you can simply drag down
