Director John Boorman wanted the forest scenes in the movie to have a magical look to them so he used a large Green light shining at the actors as you will see glints of green on metal throughout the movie. Beautifully done and brilliant decision on his behalf.

But there are at least two scenes that lack the green light: The scene where Arthur submits to Uryens' mercy, bidding Uryens to either knight him, or slay him. Merlin is stunned, saying "What's this? I never saw this!" It is not a magical scene, but a testament to the will, courage, and honor of both men. (Yes, the same Uryens we see here demanding another chance to draw Excalibur. ) And at the very end, when Percival returns Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake. It is a moment steeped in mystery and miracle, but it is the passing of magic from the world, and again, there is no green light. It has been pointed out to me that a couple of scenes are lit with blue light, notably when Percival achieves his Quest for the Grail, suggesting that where green signifies the Old Magic, blue indicates a holy Christian influence. And upon rewatching Percival returning Excalibur, I see there is a moment where, as the sword flies to the Lady's hand, it glints blue. Perhaps this suggests Excalibur now serves God, or is in His keeping. It's hard not to believe that Boorman was working under Godly inspiration to get such details right.

Now over the years, we find that the law is whoever draws the sword, it is their right to be king! You have to win tournament battles before you have your chance to pull the sword and other knightley things. Now our Arthur was a squire lad of 15 when by chance he had to go off to fetch Sir Kay another sword. On his way Excalibur did entice young Arthur's sight, he very hastingly did gaze towards! (Written into the handle) "I am hight Escalibore, Untoa king fair tresore" ---Escalibore Now young Arthur pulls the sword Excalibur out from the emerged rock by the church where it rests. Sir Kay was overwhelmed but put the sword back, he did not pull the sword he confessed.

It's hilarious how much this film resembles _Monty Python and the Holy Grail_ visually. But who cares? It's a great movie

when I 1st saw this movie I had no idea who Wagner was or about Carmina Burana & "Oh Fortuna;" I had never heard any of this music b/4, it had quite an impact. Here is my question, if a man named Arthur were ever to become king of England today, Would he be called King Arthur II?
