Exactly How to Order a Sprinter From the Dealership

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In today's video Jeremy takes you step by step through the process of how to spec out a Sprinter van when ordering from the Mercedes Dealership. The process is a bit confusing so we encourage you to use this video as a guide to help you as you decide what is most important for you to include in your van customization.

Electronic parking brake should release automatically when you push the gas pedal. I am not sure if sprinter will release the brake automatically but other vehicles like Land Rovers, BMWs etc., would automatically release the electronic parking brake as soon as you start driving.

If you have your seat belt on, you can put it in reverse or drive and the electronic parking brake automatically releases when you press the accelerator.

Great video, thanks. I just ordered mine today. 15 month lead time. grr. Please note that there are more options at the dealer level that are not included on the website. There is an RV0 package that gives you an additional alternator bracket, PSM, aux fuel sending unit, etc. It's $900. Also on the building website you cannot add windows to the van. You can do this in person. W17 adds the sliding door window for $150. No brainer unless you want a vented window there. W61 adds the rear door windows for $96. Hope this helps. Again, thanks for the video.

Good video-thanks for posting Purchased 2019 MB Sprinter 170 wb 4x4 new May 2020. Now 9500 miles. DIY conversion. Some thoughts: Quality: owned 7 new & 11 used vehicles including 5 vans from Ford, Chevy and MB. This van is the most expensive and has had 6 recalls in first year. More than any vehicle I’ve ever owned over their lifetimes. Crazy! Also-service isn’t great, it’s expensive and there are only 3 MB dealers in my state-WI + one Freightliner. Closest is one hour drive. That said, I still like this van for where I can go and places I’ve seen and camped! Seats: leatherette is hot. Power option is nice. Didn’t have to remove seat to install ground wires or diesel heater. They move up and out of way. No swivels yet. -Do factory swivels with shorter bases leave enough room for diesel heater? 144-For where I drive, two tracks with dips and whoops are not as easy in 170wb as 144”. But at 6’4” flares are not enough room to sleep and bed lengthwise would have left little room. If I was shorter 144 would have better met my driving needs. However, I found the crosswinds in 170 felt less scary than the shorter wheel base. Side Door- SUCKS! Mine is manual. Had it adjusted 3 times so far. Still requires multiple attempts to close on occasion. NOT what you want when you are trying to be stealth or let the dog out in middle of night at campground. Roof Rail mounts-Factory Option. Did not hear you talk about them. Get them. Roof racks need them. Solar, and awnings also can be mounted without those expensive roof racks. Floor. Why is it everyone condemns the stock floor? This is high quality plywood designed for years of hard use. At 6’4” I can’t afford a thick insulated floor. A throw rug over the stock floor works great and leaves me with solid tie down points. I agree the wall panels are not worth buying but if you buy your van from inventory off the lot, you can resell them like I did or cover them in marine fabric as a first DIY step. Stereo. Speakers are awful. Had cars and trucks at 1/3 this cost with better stereo sound. MB Fail. Technology: Fell for the 360 cameras. Still backed into a small trailer hitch in garage. Brake assist did not activate. Screen is small. My fault. However- 360 feature requires significant upgrade to other features $$$ you may not want. Less tech to go wrong as van ages. I like safety BUT Lane keeping assist feature with this big van on twisty 2 lane roads MUST be shut off. The braking it applies is annoying and adds to the dust on the wheels. In the snow it might be dangerous. And to have to turn it off each time you start the vehicle is ludicrous. But keep in mind this thing is built for delivery drivers. That’s why opening a door to check while parking will result in PARK Engaged NOW! Wow, that’s a surprise the first time. As is crosswind assist. Man, I had to check my shorts after the first full-on auto brake engagement due to cross wind sway. You should be told about these features during a test drive so it doesn’t surprise you. And with all those features come complexity that I’m concerned will not result in longevity. 2 of the 6 Recalls have been software Corrections, Not updates. And after my last Recall repair visit, all those nice features: Brake assist, Lane assist, Blind spot Assist and cruise control have been rendered inoperable every 70 miles. I also get the “take a break”coffee cup symbol. If I Pull over, shut down, restart- all functions return. I also had: “A breakdown has been detected, would you like to call for assistance” - during one episode. And no, this was not due to snow, ice, dirt or bugs on sensors. This is Summer use, no rain no visible bugs on sensors. It has happened in daylight and at night. I’ve experienced sensors shutting off a feature due to dirt and rain. The message on dashboard told me it was a dirty sensor. Again, I like the van as a tool for travel. Maybe it’s just this transition year between German and US production? I know my paint quality and panel alignment were a little less than Toyota/Honda quality. I’d be interested in hearing if others have similar experiences? How about the Ford and Ram owners?

Hahaha....as I was reading your comment I found it funny and comforting to know I wasn't the only one experiencing these problems. I too have a 2019 170wb sprinter. Mine is gas and I use mine to make deliveries. I now have 200k miles on it. Still runs strong but it has those same problems you mentioned that yours does. Coffee cup symbol after driving for only a short time?! Cruise control inoperable?! Tells me my door is open when its not! Sometimes won't start but windshield wipers come on even though theyre not turned on etc.etc. check engine light used to come on and go off...now is on constantly but still drives like new?! So irritated with it at times but I still love it overall. I still get compliments on it even when it's dirty. Just wish I knew how to fix the faulty dash messages

Lucky for me my dealer kept after it while within warranty. They traced the numerous faults to a CAN Bus issue. The van was reducing the safety features available when it sensed this issue. The dealer traced it to a faulty wire in the harness. It was “repaired” 4 months after the official 3 year warranty expired due to my documentation and willingness to keep bringing it back to them.

Also-a maintenance cost comparison for people complaining about the steep costs of the A and B Services. My Honda Accord went from $29 to $69 for just 5 qts of synthetic oils and filter in the past 3 years. That’s every 5000 miles. My Harley-which I service, was always ridiculous. It now costs $363 for engine, clutch and primary oil change with approximately 4 qts and one filter. That’s once a season. And that’s in the Midwest.

Great video! Would have saved me a ton of time researching when I got my van. Couple of additional thoughts… The power front seats are nice if you have multiple drivers to save their seat settings but it is inconvenient when you want to swivel. It is slow changing back and forth. The manual seat is much faster to push back and swivel and then to swivel back. I have the sliding door assist and I like it but my wife likes it better. She had a hard time slamming the sliding door shut without the power assist especially in an incline.

For the rear windows we actually recommend getting those from Mercedes because they typically will come with the defrost option- those are hard to find in the aftermarket. 80k for an empty van is a joke. If you think of all the features and comforts you get in a luxury sedan for that price. Manufacturers and dealers are playing games with van and truck prices. They are making a killing on these vehicles. Wait a year and prices will normalize. The market is still very tight for new and used vehicles. I would wait or keep shopping. I find that commercial dealers generally are more straight forward but not sure how Mercedes dealers are organized. Like most contractors, if a dealer plays games or tries to screw me i walk out pretty fast. Business owners don’t have time for that crap and salesmen know it. But again, the market right now is tight and supply hasn’t caught up with demand.
