I grew up dancing and I genuinely believe it's a hiding place for abuser's. There's NO reason why we're forced to dance luke strippers throughout our childhood. But tet for some disgusting reason it's the norm. And you're treated as a freak if you DON'T want to over sexualise your child body. I HATED it. And it's mainly women forcing it on children. Damce and teaching are where female abusers hide their abuse in plain sight. Even this guy said MEN can be disgusting. NOBODY talks about the fact that WOMEN ARE ABUSERS AS WELL. And these dance moms and toddlers and tiara's shows it. WHY are they sexualising children. They SHOULD be doing age APPROPRIATE performances and wearing age APPROPRIATE costumes. They shouldn't be dressed up like strippers. They're CHILDREN. It's opening them up to being molested.

The reason Dawn was reacting like that had nothing to do with what her daughter was wearing. Well it kind of did. Reagan (Dawns Daughter) was wearing socks for a dance and she didn’t get them off fast enough and Abby told her “Your mom should take you to the doctor to find out why you’re so stupid” and Reagan had an absolute break down. Another parent called Dawn, and Dawn showed up to the studio and that’s when that whole thing happened. I truly don’t blame her for reacting like that. Dawn said it on Christi’s podcast along with a whole bunch of other things that happened before the show started, like Abby giving 10 year olds g-strings for Christmas.

The beautiful irony of Abby saying Chloe's mother is going to ruin her and here we are today with Chloe being not only an extremely successful adult, but a GOOD person because of how her mother raised her while Abby has had unfortunate luck in the years since Dance Moms ended makes me so insanely happy. I don't wish ill on Abby necessarily but it is pretty satisfying to see karma play out in real life. Chloe was always my favorite when I was watching this show and my heart broke for her over and over with how she was treated by Abby and others at the studio. She was always a beautiful and very talented dancer and very rarely got the credit she deserved. Imagine if she had been given the kind of love and positive treatment that Maddie was given, she could have been the star. I am so happy she's thriving in her life now.

My older sister was a competitive dancer. She performed hip hop, tap, jazz & pointe ballet. We used to go to Vegas and so on for competitions & as a little kid i was bored to tears sitting in the audience waiting 3 hours for one routine & then 2 more until awards. I will say my sis had to get ear piercings tho she didnt really want to cuz the outfits for the routines would often require ear pieces. Clip ons were hard to find. She did a group number “Hit the Road Jack” in a sparkly pinstripe suit pants with suspenders & a fedora. So cute. She did so much makeup for dance, but wears so little as an adult. She also has the dancer stance as her resting position when she stands. Force of habit. She got really good at making a bun with her hair at a young age & MY GOD the amount of hair pins we used to have in the house to do her hair up for routines 😮‍💨.That and the hairspray & hair gel. It was a lifestyle for sure. The routines, the rehearsals, the travel, the prep, the awards, all of it. Her bff is a dance teacher at a high school now. Teaching the next generation how to move. 💃🏻My mom used to watch Dance Moms all the time so i was exposed to it as a kid. Never really got why she wanted to watch all the yelling. Stresses me out 😅 even then.

i think with the electricity dance, the costumes were not the issue bc as a dancer myself i’ve worn similar costumes at the same age as them, (im 21 now), during competitions and obviously they did too as we see throughout the show, also like you said it’s not that different than what they wear during practice or training. for me, the issue was the song lyrics and the dance itself that made it too inappropriate for them at that age uk. my mother who is a dance mom said the same thing lol. and yes, they always falsified the scores or who won, blah blah, maddie and chloe were barely in the same age division throughout the show and chloe won first just as much as maddie but they always made it seem like chloe came second to maddie when in fact she would come first in a different age division. they did that a lot with the other girls as well which is just something in itself tbh. anyways, dance moms is iconic and i literally rewatch it almost everyday. i love it. 😭

Dance and gymnastic, from my experience, have the same types of parents and harsh coaching. I was a competitive gymnast for about 7 years and honestly, my mom cared more for competition than i ever did 😂 but dance mom was wild and gave me too much anxiety back then. That show is just wild x)

I do musical theater, and one time when my class was about to perform, the number before us was wearing very revealing costumes (black cats) and they were 8-9-year-olds. later in the song my fellow theater friend's jaws dropped and they looked concerned, when I saw what they were looking at I was flabbergasted. the girls on stage got on all fours and arching their backes like ( ) while crawling off stage. i was like 😨

I watched the first few seasons when they aired and remember being like “yep that’s what dance is like I see nothing wrong with this” but now I’ve had time, space, and therapy from my own dance experience and I’m interested to see what you’ll have to say!

Abby and Cathy are actually still friends and were friends throughout the filming of the show. When interviewed they both said so and Cathy laughed saying "guys I was a theater major!" Lol. Also a lot of the drama is based off pay. Producers said make drama or get lost basically but the girls did suffer from all of it.

I love that you are reacting to this. I live in Pittsburgh and I ran into Abby at the grocery store once. I was checking out deli meats and her booming voice said Double check the dates on those. You don’t want to get sick. I said thank you Miss Abby. I’ve never felt so oddly scolded and I’m grown ass woman. She’s just has that ability!
