the thing about nia’s solo is she doesn’t get many solos, but when she does they are VERY stereotypical or have bad choreography (or both)

Thank you for saying this! Nia probably got arguably some of THE WORST choreography on the whole show throughout all the seasons. The only one I liked was laquifa, and that's pretty much for the opposite reasons that the dance was given to her in the first place. But her turning what Abby intended to be complete joke and probably wanting to humiliate Nia, surprisingly turns into something unique and different and to actually be proud of. Kinda brought her out of her shell and gave us a chance to see more of her personality. THE SASS she gives is just so freaking adorable and awesome to watch. It was so nice seeing her feel so good about herself and getting so much praise from everyone, especially the audience. She gained so much confidence from Laquifa😊 Thank you Shangela for inspiring Nia 💕

Please don’t kill me y’all .. while I agree with almost everything y’all are saying .. she was given crappy choreography and she was typecasted everytime BUT I feel like we’re old enough to admit that nia did not dance at the level of the other girls .. that doesn’t mean she can’t dance or didn’t improve , I think by season 4 she improved immensely and by season 5 she was on fire but around this time technically nia just wasn’t there and that’s okay but can’t just ignore it like it isn’t true .

love the way you keep it realistic especially with abby, because of course she didn’t treat them well in general but her basic beliefs were absolutely professional. most reactors overdramatize abby’s moments, but especially here in season 1, she really was just a dance teacher trying to do her best. she wasn’t really classic “abby lee miller” yet.

As an ex-dancer, first season Abby reminds me a lot of my old creative director. I actually think the critiques she gives are super valid and delivered like most dance teachers would give them. Obviously, as the show goes on she gets worse, but first season Abby is absolutely just. A dance teacher tired of these moms who impede her.

@@honeybee62778 I see what you guys mean and I definitely don’t have that experience so I can’t say you are wrong in your feelings how ever I do feel that even in the first season she was no longer a dance teacher bc she made decisions based on the show, and she chose to continue it bc it was making her money, she didn’t agree with the producers all the time but most of the time she allowed the kids to be treated like shit for tv. And I also think that from the very beginning she is very dehumanizing towards Nia. And although more of her disdain for Chloe is shown later you can see in this episode how she can’t separate parents from kids and that badly affects her teaching in my opinion. Also just to kinda validate/ talk about y’all’s experiences I did have a lot of friends in musical theatre and they told me about similar experiences which I also didn’t agree with. I get that it makes better dancers but bc there are dancers out there that are incredible and don’t get treated like shit I feel like that proves you can have amazing dancers/ players and genuinely care about them/teach them with critiques that don’t insult their very being. I really love seeing Abby with Chloe when she is in a good mood but most of the time she straight up bullies that kid.

For the sake of the TV show they could only enter a certain number of groups or solos etc, but in real dance competitions (of this nature) you can enter as many dances as you're willing to pay for.... Some studios/teams will have every member do a solo and some will have one group dance in each genre etc etc, just depends on the group and the money. Dance Competition curcuits for school teams can be different though due to state rules/comp rules. And I'm sure in other niche dance circuit types like ballroom, clogging, or riverdance they may have different rules too about how many dances. The absolute biggest gag of the show is them having different dances each comp & STILL going to nationals with new dances, because in most comps in order to qualify for nationals you have to compete the dance at a regionals of one of the same comps (starpower for example - you would do the dance at their regionals to go to their nationals, you can't just go to nationals) 😂😂

I love you and this new Dance Moms Series!! Special request: Please do not cover Season 2 Ep 2, the producers purposely registered Cathy’s dancer in the wrong age category (to create drama) and that poor girl was bullied, called a cheat, for years following. I took my dancers to a comp she attended and I witnessed cruel kids calling her a cheat (not my students, I’d never allow that ish!!) The same thing happened to Kaylee Quinn in Sesson 6 Ep 11. This girl was a dance prodigy! The producers did her so dirty she ended up studio hoping for a bit, then ultimately quitting 💔 If you do cover these episodes maybe you can “out” the production’s manipulation and make things right once and for all lol 😉👊🏽 Anywho….love your channel!

A varsity football starter forgot his cleats for an away game 2.5 hours away, my son was just a freshman but had the potential to play that night if the team got ahead. He willingly gave up his cleats and even when the assistant coach noticed our son had on just a regular pair of tennis shoes he never ratted out his teammate. While teammates compete against each other for starting spots, they also believe in playing like a team. It seems like in dance (or at leas on this show) that it’s all about their daughter winning the solo event NO MATTER THE COST. I get wanting to win but to try to sabotage someone else’s kid, talk bad about them, etc goes way beyond competitiveness, it’s poor sportsmanship

Watching the second episode and knowing that Maddie and Mackenzie’s father was basically not present in their lives/slightly neglectful during their childhood is just so sad. Like no wonder Maddie was listening in on the conversation and didn’t want to speak to her dad or let Mackenzie near him. It’s sad to know how quick both of them had to grow up, but especially Maddie due to being a mother figure to Mackenzie, being Abby’s star which required her to dance like an adult and be perfect, while also being a good respectful daughter to Melissa. The group dance for nationals was gorgeous though and I wish they had more uplifting dances like that as they matured into young ladies.

So interesting fact, on Abby’s KZread channel a few years ago both she and Gianna admitted in a video that most of the dances throughout the show especially in the early seasons were thought of by the producers. The producers who had no history or backgrounds in dance basically had most of the control and came up with most of the dances. Who would get to dance, who would be in a group dance/who would get a solo and the best solos/who would be in a trio, the style of the dances, who got the best costumes, the music. Abby and Gianna were just made to look like they were the ones teaching the dances completely but they weren’t.

Now that I have a child in dance I do wonder if Abby kicking the Dad out of the dressing room was edited and she was actually telling him at least initially he couldn't be in the female change room. A former Dad at my daughters studio kept coming into the dressing room and had to be repeatedly kicked out. He didn't get that the girls were changing. I saw red at the last recital when he laughed and said "oh its nothing I haven’t seen". My daughter was in the process of changing at that moment. I had some choice words and kicked him out. His daughter had her step mom with her so there was zero reason he needed to be in the room. Step mom was so embarrassed.

My issue is the way Abby talked to the kids . It was toxic and abusive. When they were taught by another teacher the kids excelled because they weren’t screamed at constantly

I really love watching this show with you. You being a dancer has always intrigued me and I enjoy seeing more of this aspect from you. I think everyone else probably does too. Learning more about you Brad is very fun. And watching a show about dancing with someone who doesn't know dance wouldn't be as entertaining in my opinion.

I’m not sure which episode this is and if anyone could tell me that would be great but I love the one where the moms go into Abby’s garage and clean it out. It’s so funny and I think it gives a little insight to Kelly and Abby’s relationship with eachother.
