Nigerian Court Martial has always remained a joke of the highest order. I don't know this convicted general but the court martial is as corrupt as anything. What goes on there is simply power struggle that aims always at de-ranking or demotion or disgrace of officers with brighter future. Worse of it is that, this struggle goes as low as to fighting junior officers with great future. I think these court martial must restructure on the foundations of human dignity, integrity, impartiality, truthfulness and fairness.

Well, from the way you sound, Bashir, you are a man of conscience and honour but unfortunately, most of your kinsmen who control the real power in the country are the exact opposite! I hope you find a way to get your message of propriety accross to them in the corridors of power and the brainwashed, uninformed grassroots who always hail them irrespective of their shortcomings. I know nobody is perfect, north, south, east and west but I'm talking about those who wield real power ( the president and his closest henchmen) whose words and actions matter the most!!

@@skali_skali In Pakistan, military generals are demigods...revered as though they are prophets, and loved by all. They are beyond the stage of 'untouchable'; they control the politicians, the foreign policy, journalists, and anyone else who matters. They also control a business empire, with products ranging from cornflakes to cement, from mortgages to missiles, from bread to banking, from educational institutes to commerical real estate, and everything in between. Anyone who has ever confronted them has paid dearly. Think of all that happened since 9-11, OBL being found in Pakistan, the whole western society blaming Pakistan for supporting Taliban, yet Pakistan's Army Chief still got full military honors when he last visited the Pentagon in the US, and before that when he went to the UK. So for us, it shows that they truly are demigods with power and reach that is far beyond the border they control. As you can see that for me A GOC, a General Officer Commanding, a 2 Star Division Commander being publicly tried and demoted is unheard of where I come from.
