This really gives me an appreciation for how much engineering went into these consumer devices. Also great to watch someone who is very comfortable and familiar working with things like this!

Thanks. This old stuff is very mechanically and electrically complex. That is what I find most interesting about it. Lots of interesting things to discover and look at.

Great video! I snagged a 1987 Sears VHS Camcorder from a thrift store and repaired the belts, focus, and zoom! Only thing that sucks now is the zoom is insanely slow, probably since I clamped the spring on the motor too tight when gluing a part back onto it. Do you have any insight on maybe being able to adjust/fix the zoom speed on one of these? Probably need a new motor at this point but was just curious (: Wish I could add a non digital manual zoom heh. Thanks (:

I am not sure it would be possible to adjust the zoom speed. You would need to increase the voltage to the motor. If it is slower than it should be. Assuming there is nothing wrong with the power to the motor, it must have additional load on the motor. Lens full of dust hard to turn, clutch slipping or belt slipping.

Cleaning might work as a temporary fix. Long term, buttons probably need to be replaced.
