It's much appreciated that you mentioned John Wayne's use of the 1892 Winchester in many of his westerns, and more often than not in films set before the firearm had even been invented. (The same applies to his use of 1873 colt revolvers in films that were set before that firearm's invention. The post-Civil War film Red River is a prime example.)
