The Genesis games were pretty dramatic on this, but CD certainly did it best, because it FORCES you a total loss in the game!

Imagine Sonic run so fast that his heart dies after jump.

I now remember, how much I hated the Flying Fortress Act 2 (or how was it) in Sonic Mania, because of this time limit. You cannot finish this level faster than in 5 mins, but if you choose to observe the level, you might not finish it (also cuz of the boss, that takes quite a lot of time) in time. Such a frustration..

Out of curiosity, why not include the time out deaths from Sonic Adventure (Gamma stages), Sonic Adventure 2 (Car stages, Green Forest, White Jungle, and Security Hall), or Shadow the Hedgehog (Central City and arguably Space Gadget)

Some Games have a Countdown Timer.

At least in the later developments if you ran out of time they didn't do the whole 'bump' noise and you didn't jump up the screen before falling down off-screen

The reason they showed the 3DS version of Sonic Generations is because in all other versions (like PS3) the levels have no time limit. Edit: I mean in the main levels, in Green hill on console versions, you have to have like no rings and wait 20 minutes just to get a D rank.
