do we ever know why on some games they’d use the real version and then on other games they’d use the instrumental versions instead? I know they did that with Lita and Kane sometimes as well. Like all the 2003 games he’s instrumentals but every game after uses the real song?

I think for a brief period of time RVD went back to the instrumental version in early 2003 because the band who played the song Breaking Point were fighting to get more money for their work than they originally got. Just long enough to be taken out of all the games.

Licensing songs from artists can be difficult, or the game's publishers didn't want to blow part of their budget on them.

Wonder why X8 and Shut Your Mouth got One of a Kind but XIX, Raw 2 and Here Comes the Pain all got WWE’s rendition of “Walk” and then all subsequent games used One of a Kind again. Was it a licensing issue?
