I like how her outfit changes into her previous costumes in the KOF 2002 when she executes Psychic Ex. Also, I've never noticed that her costume changes in 1994-98. The changes are quite subtle. Although the 97 costume should be noticable enough - I still didn't notice it until now.

I'm pretty sure Ralf and Clark from Ikari Warriors narrowly edge them out. Their first game was March 1986. I can't find the precise month in 1986 in which the first Athena game was released, but odds are it was later.

I like Athena best. She's so OP and will get you win. She has teleport, reflect, psycho ball, psycho sword, phoenix arrow, shiny crystal and psycho medley. OP! One of hardest combo in KOF 2004. One of the most entertaining Hidden Super Desperation Move. She's the best!

@@zerox8413 KOF 02 yup she can heal herself in 1 of 4 different ultimate skills. She was not OP like you have said. As a KOF player over 10 years. She never been stayed at S tier. Don't mentioned her ultimate skill required you to do correctly step attack.

I have to partially blame the Idolmaster series or any other idol type stuff which came after that for this issue. For those wondering, the first Idolmaster game appeared three months before KOF XI. Then again, I do not mind if Asamiya Athena tried any of the costumes from the other Idol type games or anime.

@@ace5566 She had the school outfit since the 90s games, in her pre-battle animations. It's just that Xi finally made her fight with it. And Xii/Xiii uncreatively kept the same... The first time she didnt change outfits between two games (if we dont count Neowave).

With the aftermath of KOF XIV and the games which come after that, I will remember Asamiya Athena as the idol who existed before all the idols we know existed. Update: With Idolmaster Cinderella Girls Starlight Stage having its 4th Anniversary in 2019, I may be completely wedded to the idea of KOF x Idolmaster series (and other Idol type games) crossovers. What a change compared to the first three anniversaries (though there may be slight acceptance in the 3rd anniversary. It does help that the narration for the 3rd anniversary PV is done by Fukuhara Ayaka. She is Shibuya Rin and Najd's VA).

Try saying that to how she was back in the day (Particularly '94). Where she did not have teleport, Shining Crystal had a diagonal input(back + halfcircleback + diagonal up back + light kick & heavy punch) while also not having crystal shoot, and reflector was half circle forward + kick(new reflector didn't exist yet. So reflecting is basically it's only purpose). Athena was a character who I wanted to be good, or at the very least just be decent.
