One of my favorite jokes in the original Animaniacs run is one from the episode with the pilgrims and the Warners being "natives" with a turkey as a pet. The lead hunter of the pilgrims demands the Warners give him the bird. Yakko then retorts, "We'd love to but the Fox censors won't let us."

They were retired after Walt Disney threatened to sue Warner Brothers if they didn't retire Foxy and Roxy because they looked too similar to Mickey and Minnie. Walt had already sued another Mickey Mouse ripoff, so Warner just scrapped the characters.

I think that the OP is saying that when _Phineas abd Ferb_ decided to do music with every episode, _Animaniacs_ responded with something like, "Ah, finally a worthy opponent." I do think Oodles meant to imply that _P&F_ were first, although I can see how it could be read that way.

As an adult, mother of one at the time, I definitely enjoyed the Animaniacs. The show reminded me of the classic Looney Tunes/ Merrie Melodies cartoons. I could really relate to the type of humor used by the characters. And, being a die hard Beatles fan, I loved Yakko's Ringo-esque Liverpudlian accent.

My favorite segments were the “educational” ones like the state capitals or Yakko singing all the countries because they were educational while also making fun of educational programming. I like the idea for shorter evolution videos. They are the same quality as the longer ones but allow for “newer” shows to be showcased. I felt like I was watching one of the OG videos. 👍

A Pup Named Scooby Doo was the only kid version of cartoon show I enjoyed from the 80s and 90s. Tiny Toons were fine but it had nothing on Animaniacs. Also Freakazoid is criminally underrated

And to think, we almost had an Animaniacs cameo in Looney Tunes Back in Action had it not been for the humorless executives that ruined the hell out of that movie. Anyway, the first time I heard of Animaniacs, it was through a voice over at the end credits of some Fox Kids cartoon. You know, because back before they crushed the credits to the side or just had them superimposed over the end of the show they had voice overs announcing the next show. So anyway, without any context of who or what they were, Yakko, Wakko, and Dot introduced the cartoon viewing kids to the world without visuals, so it was incredibly cryptic. I almost thought with a name like Animaniacs it was somehow Eek the Cat related. Don't know why, still don't.

When the water tower was falling in back in action I expected the Warner’s opening the door and a simple “uh oh”

Wakko feels a LOT more like Wacky than he does like Smacky, so given that, I'm pretty sure Smacky was just scrapped altogether, and Wacky becoming Wakko just came with a personality change. That being said, I hope Smakko is at least mentioned in the reboot at some point. That would be cool.

Hulu is one of my favorite streaming services. Netflix will always have a place in my heart for introducing me the magic streaming services. Hulu showed me new and old cartoons. Animaniacs, My Life as a Teenage Robot (though they now removed it), Curious George, and even My Hero Academia. Can't wait for the Animaniacs revival!

Fun fact: When the Animaniacs first debuted on TV in 1993, it was aired on Fox Kids and was the 2nd highest rated show on the network. The highest: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers which debuted just a couple of short weeks before the Animaniacs and is STILL airing TO THIS DAY. The Animaniacs and the Power Rangers are my most favorite Fox Kids shows of all time.

Wakko’s Wish should’ve been released to theaters.

I actually discovered PINKY AND THE BRAIN first when it was a primetime series on WB. Then someone told me it had been derived from ANIMANIACS which I then proceeded to look up. Oh, and I'm surprised you didn't mention the debt these guys owe to ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE: the different segments, the bi-level humor, the one segment that got spun off into its own show. No disrespect meant, but Ward and Scott did do it first. (Though these people did it better, got to admit.)

When you think about it spearberg, made sure to keep the spirit of the show alive. Unlike all those horrible reboots on cartoon Network.

The Good Idea Bad Idea sections in the episodes always made me laugh so hard.

I just finished the reboot today and enjoyed it. Sure, it's missing some of the characters (most notably Slappy, Skippy, and The Goodfeathers, which were referenced in the show and made a brief cameo), but it kept the same tone as the original and I very much enjoyed their parody of Donald Trump as the Cyclops of Homer's Odyssey.

Good timing 3 more days until animaniacs returns

I think my favorite episode of the warner bros. is when they go to hell and are messing with Satan. That and when wacko dies and the Grim is trying to take him. I think this was not in "Animaniac" but in the "Pinky & The Brain" spinoof, but the chapter when we see all in Pinky's POV is brilliant

*SO JUST SIT BACK AND RELAX.*

Clears up 2 misconceptions I believed: 1) That Platipus Duck was a one-off fictional character from Scooby Doo. 2) That the Warners were modled after Oswald the Rabbit.

Both Tiny Toons and Animaniacs had both kid and adult humor. I'm reaching Tiny Toons again buying the entire DVD set and I can't believe so much adult humor here that went over my head as a little kid in the 90s watching this.

Interesting side note about the characters Foxy and Roxy that you mentioned partially inspired the Animaniacs: Although Foxy and Roxy's backstory and look were reinvented for their Tiny Toons appearance, Foxy and Roxy were not new characters invented for Tiny Toons. They really were pre-existing Warner Bros characters from the 1930s. In real life, Foxy and his girlfriend only ended up appearing in 3 Merrie Melodies shorts in 1931 so, they're super obscure. They didn't even have time to give Foxy's girlfriend a name originally (it was Tiny Toons that dubbed her "Roxy"). However, Foxy did continue to perform the sign-off for a number of Merrie Melodies cartoons in the early 1930s (like Porky Pig eventually would). I always thought it was so awesome of Tiny Toons to pull out the Foxy characters for an episode so, I figured their status as a genuine part of Looney Tunes history is a fact more people should be made aware of. 😊 Actually, it's funny that it's mentioned in the video that the studio was concerned about Wacko, Yakko, and Dot looking too much like Mickey 'cause that's exactly what happened to Foxy! Foxy and his girl kinda were Mickey & Minnie knock-offs and the creator did get a call from Walt Disney himself asking him not to use characters so similar to Mickey in design. It seems he complied 'cause the Foxy cartoons didn't last long after that.

I always felt that segment from 13 Ghosts felt...off. Not in a bad way, but in a WAAAAAY too much effort for a one off character that will never be seen again. Especially since they could have just tossed in an easy Garfield parody or something. He gave his original character he probably had in his mind since he was a kid for a throwaway gag in another cartoon series. That's dedication to the bit.

BTW, Tom Rugger is probably the reason that 13 Ghosts was an underrated classic that actually made the most overhated Scooby-Doo character actually likable and funny. Other than the disappointingly abrupt ending, it really is a stand out of the non-formula Scooby shows. Sure, the competition isn't exactly stiff there, but it's a great 80's H-B cartoon, right up there with Yogi's Treasure Hunt. Both very much precursors to Animaniacs/Tiny Toons style humor.

Considering that the reboot is premiering this week, I.....had a feeling this was the surprise evolution. XD Long or short, great job as always Dave.

Is nobody going to talk about how in the animaniacs universe once they add the finishing touches they just came to life?...i know it’s a cartoon but still it would be kinda scary knowing at anytime your art work could just come to life at any moment..and with their own personality's and voice how do you even control that?

@@Temzy Why SEGA? And regarding my opinion on SEGA, I don't have any hope in them to be honest. It's always hit-or-miss with them when it comes to Sonic. Fans know how to treat the franchise, unlike the IP holders. Sonic Mania, which was made by fans, is a prime example.

I dont understand why ip holders drastically change the design then are shocked when it fails. If they would have given the sibs the teen titans go treatment I wouldn't even watch one episode.

I actually watched more Tiny Toon Adventures when I was younger but I did catch this show and it was so good

I just watched all 5 season of animanicas. And I even watched Wakkos wish . Steven Spielberg did a fantastic job creating this absolutely brilliant and insaney series . Yakko Wakko and dot were absolutely perfect for the series Wakkos wish is my favorite movie

Even though I was coming out of high school I still looked at the show back in the mid 90s it was very funny.

Loved all the innuendos. Like Finger Prints and Conjugation. I also loved when the silliness was dialed back for Rita and Rocko. They really captured lightning in a watertower.

Nagyon átalakult ez a nosztalgia üzletág. Mert MAGYAR abban az évtízedben született zenészek/vokalisták eddig még nem rótták le [vintage/90-es évekbeli/import rajzfilmek előtt a tiszteletüket. Főleg ez az az animántrió előtt nem. DE most már ez is bejött. Főleg a gyerekkorukat nem köszönték meg nekik. Eddig.

Please don’t make comments like this on videos. It completely diminishes and disrespects the work put into content by creators. I may not “actually get to” the Animaniacs until then, but everything leading up to that point is highly important information in understanding the history of the show and the characters.

Awesome history episode! Just watched the first two last night. I thought it was fantastic! The dragon animation in ep2 was astounding, and all of it was top notch quality. Amazing.

Good timing Dave! we've now got 3 days until Animaniacs (2020 reboot version) premieres on HULU! and IM SO FREAKING EXCITED FOR IT!!!!! it's going to be so Awesome! and I'll let you know my final thoughts on The 2020 animaniacs Reboot once it launches on November 20th 2020.
