From listening to a recent episode of Sporadically Board featuring Matthew Jude, I gather that this was inspired by actual comments on KZread and/or Facebook.
Having gone from “I’ve heard of Catan and maybe Ticket to Ride and I definitely will never play a game that lasts over an hour” to “an engine builder named wingspan? But I’m just not into airplanes... and what’s a worker placement?” to where I am now in a year or so, I love this. Need to add a phase for designer wannabes for those of us that binged Ludology! 😀

You missed Phase 5 where you have so many games you have to start the cull. Well, that's me at the end finding out who Paula Deming is and how good her sketch comedy is
You could go full circle with an evolutionary step about culling your games and getting back to only 10, then realizing the value of party games again.
When you get your first Kallax shelf, you know you've finally made it a gamer. Huzzah! When you buy your _third_ Kallax shelf, when then you know you have a problem... ;-) Well done!
You missed the "that game is so broken" phase...
The way the napkin dabs were synced to the music was magnificent.
That Dominion moment is absolutely on point! Though it gives you enough opportunity to go to the bathroom or cook a delicious meal. Or give you a depression how bad you are in this game.
While I think that many videos in the board game space that try comedy are cringe-worthy, Paula is just so completely clever and I cannot help but laugh every time. Seriously, her writing is top notch and her timing is excellent.

My favourite hobby is playing games. With little children and a busy life and teenagers who are being less involved and generally being tired I've found that my family has slipped a bit lately in that regard. And when that happens I tend to drift towards my second favourite hobby - buying games. And in that regard I am doing well and don't really need other players to make it happen.

Sleeves, Paula, sleeves! We're not animals. :-)
Lvl 5. Making your own inserts on CNC machine, printing your own 3D figures, painting them, molding your own tokens, making your own expansions, making your own cards, boards, home rules for BGG (they're better than origin ;). Finally playing with all expansions so long that nobody wants to play with you anymore...
"Can we just put it back in the box?" I might have died at this point ^^
Wow... this was like watching my own biography and then a seance of my own future. I'm in step 3 now... great video!
Ok no joke this is instantly my favourite video on the internet hands down
Still watching this 2 years later and laughing every time :D you're gold, Paula.
I really wish there were an alternate "Chapter 4" for "designers" --"Oh, these games I bought from Good Will aren't for playing. I'm just going to cannibalize them for dice and minis." --"I idolize Cole Wehrle...What do you mean, 'Who's Cole Wehlre?'" --"I'm totally down to learn a new game. I've only learned seven so far this week." --"Oof...that was a feel-bad moment." --"I was just reading Jamey Stegmaier's blog, and he says..." --"ugh, I wish I had time to play this, but I'm booked for back-to-back TTS sessions every night this week" and so on...
"Who's Tom Vassel?" GOLD.
Phase 5 is when you see a KZread board game video with Paula, so you just to go the video and click "like" automatically. Cuz, you know you're going to, anyway... and I've never yet been wrong about that. Phase 6 is when you see a KZread video of Paula endorsing the greatness that is... meatloaf.
Sitting here, opening a Kickstarter game that arrived today, nodding along at every single part of this & fondly remembering my descent into madness, buying expansions for games still on my “shelf of opportunity” & FOMO all-in nonsense.
"I wish people would stop trying to put comedy in their board game videos" Bravo

I feel attacked! Things are immediately better when you take out the insert.

THOSE CHEETO FINGERS GOT ME! LOL! I nearly shouted when you almost touched the (unsleeved) card
Hilarious!! From entering the hobby in just under a year, I guess I still have to be a casual player. But, quickly heading to Gamer..... with a touch of collector.... it's in my DNA. Who's Rahdo?
"Who is Paula Deming?" was the perfect joke to end on for the Collector! Great video! Well done!
Very much identified with the chopsticks. I have “finger chopsticks” that I bring whenever my games leave my house and I won’t be in charge of the snacks. 😂

Brilliant work! Love how the jokes totally land for anyone in the hobby, and doesn't make sense to everyone else.

I basically went from Risk/Monopoly straight to Twilight Struggle at 25 years old with no intermediaries, and goodness I still love that game. Six years later and I've played and bought a bunch of titles. Using sleeves, backing games, providing playtesting support, working with designers to port their titles onto TTS. It's a rabbit hole.
OMG I screamed so loud “Nooooo” at the Cheetos part. Hilarious. Love this. Subscribed!!! You are awesome
