The band states:
"We're really excited to start revealing the next page in the Evile chapter", says frontman OL Drake. "We've taken a completely different approach on this album and I looked inward for inspiration; I've opened myself up like I never thought I would. We've always been at 500mph, like on the previous album (Hell Unleashed) and this time around we felt we wanted to try the polar opposite - some slower-than-we've-ever-done tempos with more melodic vocal hooks, and give Adam some freedom on the leads/writing. I've been working on my vocals since diving in the deep end in 2021, and we've worked hard for 2 years on this, so I'm excited for everyone to hear the fruits of our labour. We're really proud of what we've all accomplished with this album. This is the one I hope can catapult us to more ears and places we haven't been before to play for people who are constantly asking us to play in their area.
First up is the title track, "The Unknown." I wrote the basic lyrical content and concept back in 2017 when I was out of the band. The song deals with my fears and anxieties of becoming a father for the first time and all the doubts and worries that come with the responsibilities it brings."

I didn't expect this kind of song!! Very good song , Ol has improved vocally!!! I like the Heavyness of the song.
A big step up vocally from the last album for sure!

Now if the music was the same along with the new singing. They lost 5 steps musically. This band use to shred you medulla. Now the record company is trying to turn them into disturbed

I loved hell unleashed but the vocals were too high on the first listen I thought the belt drive was knackered on my turntable 😂😂😂😂

@@mikemossa9640 Nothing Evile has released has sounded even vaguely similar to a Disturbed track, I figure you've probably never heard anything from Disturbed which is fine since they're nu-metal which is a thoroughly hated genre, but perhaps don't go around comparing bands' sounds to them if you haven't actually got a reference point to know what the stuff you dislike sounds like in comparison.
Serious SERIOUS "The Thing That Should Not Be" vibes from this. I love it :D

I absolutely love this track, can’t stop playing it. One of the best Evile songs to date. Stella vocal performance, heavy as hell riffage and that solo is top tier.

Sounds like Evile have gone to a more groove oriented route this time. Still heavy, but more atmospheric and moody. I like it. Well done, Evile.

Man this is an excellent surprise. Loving this direction and I dare to say I haven't been nearly excited about a new Evile album as this. Looking forward to it.

This is such a banger I accidentally found this band and I'm very happy I did.
I think Ol drake does a respectable job singing. But i miss matt Drakes vocals. They were alot of the Evile sound i loved. I do hope Ol sings on this album as he does in th8s song not just yells. This is coming from long time Evile fan that still loves and supprts them.

I hear you, Matt's vocals are missed. Ol definitely does a decent job, but it would be cool if Matt could drop in to record the vocals that Ol's come up with, even if he's not in the band otherwise. I have a feeling we might see him rejoin one day, maybe even an Iron Maiden situation with 3 guitarists.

Matt has his health issue that forced him to quit. Its sad that he not could keep i up. But this new album is fuckin gooood!!! Keep it rockin!!!

I love the evolution of this band, never would have imagined I'd be listening to Ol as the frontman in 2023. How good, love this band and this is a really solid, stomping song. Great song writing. Sidenote: Ol's vocal delivery at 2:38 reminds me of Hetfield's vocals on Dream No More. Sick stuff boys, cannot wait for the new album and feeling blessed we get more new Evile so soon after the last album.
You got me, Ol. This is it. Hell was unleashed and there was chaos. But you've already hit your stride. I can't wait to hear the rest. I want to say this feels like a throwback to the FST/Skull era and I'd love nothing more.
Love it, can't wait for the rest of the album. And for the people disliking this for the slow-tempo, did you all forget about songs like In Memoriam and Cult?

The last album didn't really do anything for me vocally. This is much better, like albums past. Ol seems to be channeling Matt a little, and I like it! Keep it up!! 🤘🤘

To be fair, earlier Evile albums with Matt didn't do much for me vocally either. Too much like Slayer, a band/sound I've just never been into. The LAST two albums with Matt, when they really started drifting in a more "progressive" direction? Were great. Matt's vocals came a long way. And Ol' deserves credit for seemingly trying the same thing here. But I still hope Matt returns someday.

I really find it great that their new vocalist is dwelling into more melodic territories like their previous vocalist. Of course, that's a high bar to reach for, but he brings his own style into the melodic singing, which I can stand behind! Gonna be a massive step up from the last album!

The new vocalist was always in the band (except for a brief bow out between albums). He's the older brother of the original singer.

If I recall correctly, Evile started out as a Metallica cover band. Makes sense they'd eventually get into their 90's style.

You recall correctly. You can actually find me on video for Cult saying the same thing years ago while lamenting the usual comparisons being drawn by the peanut gallery too.
I like this a lot. I still wish Matt would come back, but this reminds me more of the stuff he did with them. Best song with Oliver so far, I'd say.
