My favorite line in "Ash Versus Evil Dead" was when Ash was back in the cabin and was trying to remember where the book was, and said "Was it on the table (Evil Dead 2), or in the basement when I went to find Sc--- (Evil Dead 1)" and gets cut off. Great meta humor.

Anyone can make them work together all you have to do is cut out the recaps and ending of each film and link them together and they play fine as a whole. If you cut the Recap of 2 and start the movie right when it picks up from the ending of part 1 with Ash being attacked by the force and pushed through the woods you can watch them as one movie easily.

21:30 The scariest deadite was the one Ash hits repeatedly with the shovel in Evil Dead I. The way she just keeps laughing at him absolutely terrorized me as a 10 year old kid in 1985.

D. San i can see that with rental reviews and any time he has guests etc but what ever the “big” project he is working on is, it’s definitely affecting the content, can tell the last few avgn episodes have been mostly some one else’s ideas, I just think maybe he has had to let others take over a lot of the work, but definitely something up.

Changing the AVGN opening is one thing, but it just isn't Monster Madness without howling it in the intro.

Honestly, I'm really not a fan of that cliff-hanger ending. Even if we got a fourth and final season where Ash defeats the Dark Ones, I still wouldn't be into it. I just don't think that post-apocalyptic sci-fi style fits The Evil Dead, ya know?

On the subject of the “remake”, According to Rami or someone else, it’s in the same universe as the original (so it’s more of a spin-off than anything) and the original plan was to make a sequel to that, a sequel to army of darkness, and then a final film where the girl from from the remake meets Ash and they team up That would’ve been epic!

A staple of Evil Dead is that it has a unique and frenetic atmosphere and it's funny, even when it wasn't trying to be. The Evil Dead remake just feels like every other goresploitation horror movie ever. None of the comedy, none of the visual panache, its just a regular ol' horrror movie, shot to cleanly and devoid of humor.

It's still a Reboot rather you wanna see it in the same world or not the studio saw it as a Reboot. I think Rami only said you can see it as a loose sequel to get fans not to be so upset over a Remake. With the new Evil Dead coming out next year called Evil Dead Rise the Remake is pretty much a one-off especially if the new one gets even more love because then it will start a new Series of its own.

I always liked how Ash Vs Evil Dead picked up after Army of Darkness without mentioning it.

For the record. Evil Dead (Remake) is in fact one of the dimensions that Ash caused. Thats why he showed up at the end. THe oriignal movies and even the TV show all dealt with multi-timelines that Ash screwed up. Its not a bad remake, it shows pretty well what happens in a timeline without Ash existing.

In the special features, doesn't Bruce say he was on board with the remake when the team reassured him that they didn't want to simply make a cheap rehash of Evil Dead with a recast Ash? Also, before the tv show, there were rumors of doing sequels to both the remake and the Army Of Darkness. Eventually doing a movie that combined both universes. I love the show, but it would have been cool to see those movies.

Yeah, Bruce at the time said he didn't want to be Ash because he was too old and didn't want to burden a young actor with being Ash and basically trying to imitate him. He was okay with a new original character. The constant old man jokes in the TV series is probably a reference to Bruce saying that before.

Actually with Army of Darkness they did get the rights to Evil Dead 2, when you watch the opening you can see it Evil Dead 2 footage, they only re-shot the hand chopping sequence due to time, they wanted the recap to go by fast.

I saw Army of Darkness at a $2 second-run theater as a teenager. It honestly changed my tastes in movies, and the Evil Dead series is one of my favorites.

I remember paying to see Army of Darkness in the theatre and not knowing that the movie was a continuation of Evil Dead 2 until we were actually watching it. What a pleasant surprise and a fantastically fun film...it was "groovy".

Cool video, I liked it. But I like it more when James make a solo-scripted monster madness video. Those were my favorite and I watch them all every now and then.

Im really glad you're still doing this, i remember watching every episode all october on your website back in like 2010. I was only 10, nearing 20 now, and your movie reviews still manage to pull me back in

There is an ultimate cut fan edit online that stitches the three movies together perfectly. You get Evil Dead 1 and it cuts off right when the force goes through the door to ash, then it cuts to Evil Dead 2 as hes being thrown through the trees, finally once he is pulled through the portal at the end it cuts to Army of Darkness where he falls out of the sky. Its so cool. One giant movie.

Bruce Campbell, in Evil Dead 2, gives one of the great comedic performances ever. Absolute classic film.

Army of Darkness is one of my favorite movies, ever. The TV show is flippin’ amazing.

I loved how Ted Raimi showed up in season 2 of Ash vs. Evil Dead.

Army of Darkness is secretly the perfect Dungeons and Dragons movie. Ash spends the whole time acting like a player character, messing up at every turn with seemingly brazen disregard for the consequences.

You know that flip Bruce does when auditioning that he used when fighting his possessed hand in Evil Dead 2? You can now recreate that same flip in DUSK, with Marathon 2 esque twin broomsticks to boot!

Love these movies. Enjoyed the show too. Great start to Monster Madness 2019.

Seeing Bruce, Sam, and Ted in conversation at Texas Frightmare was one of the best panel discussions I've ever witnessed online or in person. HILARIOUS, inspiring, and highly entertaining.

I'm so glad you guys are doing this! Monster Madness was such a "comfortable" bit of viewing every Halloween season. So this just makes me happy as can be.

Evil Dead II is a classic! My best friend and I used to rent it from our local Blockbuster every weekend for like 2-3 years. To this day, when my wife wakes me, I say “ who has awakened me from my slumber. “

Forget monster madness, today is like Christmas. Army of darkness is my favourite movie of all time. I’ve been waiting for this

I’m so Happy!! I found the Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 on Hulu Showtime and right as I finish them I find you’ve dropped this!! So awesome. James I hope you make your own indie Horror Film one day. Your love for Universal Horror would translate amazingly into picture.

I always wondered why these little Easter eggs were in the evil dead movies I'm so glad someone touched on the subject no one I know would have ever thought that deeply into this , I love cinemassacre please keep an coming and I'll keep watching !!

They left out one of the best evil dead movies, My Name is Bruce.

I absolutely loved all of these movies. I remember being like 9 years old and my dad introduced me to the movies. I have watched them over and over again. I had no idea they made a series and then I was looking through Netflix or Google play I can't remember which one and they had it on there. I could hardly contain my excitement and couldn't hit play fast enough. I have tried introducing these movies to my friends and they just can't understand the amazingness that is Evil Dead.

I thought it was truly the end of Monster Madness in 2016...I'm glad I was wrong. Thanks so much, James, for bringing it back...and changing it up as always.

Evil dead scared the shit out of me as a little kid. I Love this movie, great way to start off Monster Madness.

I love the Evil Dead I can't wait for Ash Williams to become a Mortal Kombatant in Kombat Pack 2.

No I don't believe so for whatever reason He was removed from Kombat Pack 1 some issues happened or whatever I don't know the full details so Ash got replaced with the Joker because I guess He was closer to being finished.

Evil Dead is by far my favorite horror franchise. I have also read If Chins Could Kill and it was an absolutely fantastic deep dive into Evil Dead's obstacles and successes, as well as Bruce Campbell's life. Army of Darkness is my personal favorite of the series and I only wish they would continue the movie franchise today, rather than trying a reboot or the T.V. series (which was cancelled). Either way, great video and keep being awesome James and co.
