    @ "Not to go forwards could also mean to stagnate/stay where you are." The whole point of the saying is that unless you're moving forward, or progressing, you are moving backwards. Therefore, to stagnate is equivalent to moving backwards, since there is no forward progression. Get it?

  • @nonprogrediestregredi1711

    @nonprogrediestregredi1711

    4 жыл бұрын

    @ No, I don't get it; why would my handle need to specify context? I feel that we should always be progressing in all aspects of life. You may see life differently and that would be your prerogative, but I don't see why context would be required. As to the atheism aspect, I agree that many theists want to claim that not believing in a god is an assertion of a god not existing; and yes, that would be incorrect. The lexical semantics of the word "atheism" demonstrate that.

  • @nonprogrediestregredi1711

    @nonprogrediestregredi1711

    @ "Your response is assuming a context which is not the default." Please demonstrate how that is the case. I'm guessing you're still speaking of the atheistic lack of belief. That would be the default to the unfalsifiable proposition of a god's existence. The proper default would be to withhold belief until evidence is presented to warrant a belief.

    When I write a paper and submit it for publication, JACS doesn't accept it at face value, but it undergoes peer review through multiple editors, checking the data, reviewing, requesting clarification on various points, but before I even submit it, scientists I work with review it as well. And I want this to happen so that when it does get published I don't look like a moron. Science is constantly questioning, and reviewing, and being skeptical.

    About 30 years ago, I had a very vivid dream related to the moral issue of the African slave trade, a topic which I'd been reading about for some time and in some depth. The dream took place in an antebellum plantation such as we see in books and movies. I woke up with the image still in my mind and I wrote down what I had "seen". I realized it would make a great climatic scene of a novel. I subsequently wrote the novel--five years later. The event that I "witnessed" in the dream never happened. But it did prompt me to write my book, eventually! (Is it okay to plug my book?) I mention all this, because I think Josiah should write down his dream in detail. Dreams seem to me the stuff of which stories and novels can be made.

    I've had prophetic dreams and experiences that I can't explain. My creationist mother can't understand why I don't believe in God in light of my experiences and doesn't seem to understand that while I can't explain it, I also have no reason to jump to the conclusion that it was God. She wants me to watch some of her programs, but won't accept that for me to believe anything that's said in them, the testimonials and such, it needs to be demonstrated that the bible is truth first and foremost

It wasn't helpful in any way and the dream happened sometime between 8 hours and 30 minutes before the event. Basically, my dream told me my cousin's fish had died, so when she told me in the morning I told her that I knew and she told us the day before, but she had found it dead that morning. Everyone was in the same spots they were in in the dream. Pretty banal as far as prophetic dreams are concerned, so maybe "prophetic" isn't the word I want to use, lol. Oh wait, there was another instance that comes to mind, but the one I just remembered can be explained away by deja vu. I think deja vu has been explained as your brain 'misfiling' a short term memory as a long term memory

Your dream about your father cannot be verified as just a dream or a ghost encounter, but astral flights can be confirmed, at least personally. I went to the exact same location in the body a couple days or minutes later and found things exactly as they were in my "dream". Of course I cannot video tape a dream or a flight or whatever, so I got nothing. A vivid dream can be ruled out by seeing that reality is different than my dream. But I find it funny that I found things exactly as in my dream.

Dreams and visions used to be "real" to me until I did a Dark Retreat (a 7 day sequester in total darkness). During that time I had dreams and visions that were the manifestations of an very active brain that was producing DMT. The visuals may have meant something to me, most of them not, but they certainly would mean nothing to anyone else.

Dreams are...weird. I've had dreams where I am with my family, call them by their names, 100% recognize them...but they dont look like my family members, it's just a trick of the mind. Chances are these are faces I saw throughout the day and never noticed but my eyes and brain still sees them.

As far as I can remember, the only "important" dream I've ever had is one in which I ended up killing my best friend. There are maybe a half a dozen details I can remember about it, but not enough to string together a story like this guy had.
