    Even if he did jump correct, he had no chance of beating Yagudin in this short program. Yagudin did equal job with the jumps (supposing that Plushenko succeded in the first), and definitely had a better footwork. The music for this was lousy. I'm ma fan of MJ I haven't heard a worse compilation. He suited the music for his dance not the vica-versa. All in all Yagudin was simply better.

    He did not only had that chance, he would surely have done it but for the missed quad. And everyone knows it: Yagudin won only because Plushenko fell down. Full stop. That is why Alexey cried when he saw his points after the FS. Even after the fall he was not sure Plushenko wouldn't win.

    I'm speaking about the short program. Not the long program. Yagudin's performance was superior, in every single way. Given that Plushenko didn't miss the quad, both would have completed techniques of equal difficulty (the jumps), Plushenko jumps higher so he'd score on that one. But Yagudin's overall performance and the, I don't know the term in english (runway?) it's "дорожка" in Russian was way better and harder. So no. Plushenko is an amazing skater but in 2002 Yagudin owned him period. And in 2014 that Japanese skater owned him period.

    Even so. In the long program Yagudin skated _after_ Plushenko who had once again failed at 4-3-2 combination. After Yagudin succeeded in the same combination he decided he would not risk it and changed his program did not perform two quads making it an easy win for him. Naturally afterwards he was afraid because two quads is huge. Then again given that Plushenko succeeded at 4-3-2 Yagudin would have gave his all to the performance and since I give it to Plushenko the 4-3-2 giving the missed two quads to Yagudin would again make it impossible for Plushenko to win.

    ***** I recommend you to rewatch Plushenko's LP. He did 4-3-3. The landing was not so clean, and nevertheless the program was WAY more difficult than that of Yagudin's (3 axel half loop 3 flip, etc). To say nothing of choreo which Yagudin never had, he always worked with his face only, not with the body. Btw the famous sequence of steps in his SP is very easy to do, it's impressive only for the audience, not for professionals.

As a figure skating fan for over 20 years, I just found his lack of sportsmanship appalling during the 2010 Olympics. The rules back then identify that a fall on the first jump of a jump combination (and the 2nd jump is omitted) is deemed only a fall. You don't deduct it as both a fall and omission. It's one or the other. Omissions re jump combinations are when the element is not even attempted, or if the jumps don't meet the requirement, which is one jump being at least a triple.

    I agree about the program and music cuts; for me it's never been a favorite program. But Plush was skating to demonstrate the elements and with the exception of the fall on the quad, he bright that home. I love the footwork sequences in this one.

    What's happened? The new system worked, but many skater, Fs expert, coach criticized. Plushenko come back, not won, although he was the best. He criticized the system, many experts, skaters supported him, was the big scandal. Many Fs fans wrote directly to the ISU, because of Plu, and the quad. The ISU changed the rules! Plu won the argument, and the male FS also won!!! In this season already were more quads! Plushenko is the most important, and popular skater of Fs history.

    And Plushy's fall would have been much more costly under this system than it was in 2002. He was 1/2 a rotation short on that quad, so it would have been downgraded to a triple and he would have lost a lot of execution points. Plus his spins were weaker then than they are now. It would have been much more difficult to make up that deficit in the long under the new system, I suspect.

  • @Zuranthium

    @Zuranthium

    2 жыл бұрын

    He wasn't 1/2 rotation short, it would have just been a < call. He also would have added a Triple Toe to the end of the Lutz in the modern way of doing things, he already should have back then, but it wasn't the custom to change things up like that in the SP. Alexander Abt had an underrotated Lutz and a worse Axel and PCS, so very possibly Plushenko would still be placed 4th in the SP.

    Людмила Самсаева really? I just don't like Yagudin's fans diminish Plushenko all the time. We Plushenko fans admired Yagudin to Sochi. Despit the fact we knew Yagudin lied when he said to the western media he lost on Rus Nats, because Plushenko was the favorite of Rus Fed. But we know ( there are videos onYT) Plushy clearly won '99, '00 and '01. Maybe in the '98 Rus Nat was a little bit doubtful because they both showed same level performances. Yagudin lived in US and the North-Am media made a communist evil from Plushy and a little bit rude and unjust coach from Mishin. And what Yagudin did after Sochi that is really disgusting!!!!!!!!!!! He attacked Plushy so hard everywhere! Not to mention his tweets after Vovan's joke..He knew what is the truth but he wrote that hysterical tweets.SHAME!!!! He lied about Plushy and Yana he wanted to harm them in that difficult time. So he is a weak man in many FS fans eyes. Plus he wanted to move to US he is not rooting for the Russians in 2002, and look at now his Twitter full of political messages, which attacked the US policy ...

    lala630312 In 2001 Yag's injure war real. But he and his coach made such a theatre of it, that newspapers wrote more about his sufferings than about Plushy's victory. It's true that RusSkateFed preferred Plushenko, because Yagudin went to USA. That's why Yag's fans are so angry, - there dear Yagudin was never loved by RusSkateFed. Yag became Oly champion without any support of RusSkateFed. But he had psychologist and support in USA. I do not know exactly, what kind of person Yagudin is, but intuitively I do not like him. I do not like men, who often cry. And I don't like his skating. I see that it' very good, but I haven't passion for it, don't feel it. Unfortunately after Sochi not only Yagudin "poured dirt" on Plushenko. It's so easy to kick a wounded lion! I'm ashamed of Russians who did it.

    They're called commentators because they're SUPPOSED to comment on the programs in real time, not before or after. It's like play-by-play in any other sport. If you don't like the commentary, mute the video, but don't complain about it when you know there is going to be commentary ahead of time and you know how Scott Hamilton delivers his commentary (which I happen to love and find very informative). I wish I had a dollar for every person who makes this absurd complaint.

    He could do things that yagudin couldn't and he attacked his routine with more speed and flamboyance. He could spin faster and was clearly more agile and fluid than yagudin as well. Yagudin has his strong points as well, but you have to acknowledge ability even if you don't like the skater personally.
