EVERYTHING You Want to Know about the ALL NEW Chevy Traverse! // 2024 Chevy Traverse First Drive!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The new Chevy Traverse is a radical departure from the old Chevy Traverse, with new and far more attractive styling, the addition of a Chevy Traverse Z71 trim, and a new turbocharged engine that is both more powerful and more fuel efficient than the old V6. Chevy brought us out to the southwest side of Atlanta, not far for us Atlanta natives, to drive the new Chevy Traverse RS as well as the brand new Chevy Traverse Z71 trim. For the Traverse Z71, Chevy crafted a mix of grassy fields, dirt trails, and gravel and rutted off-road paths through the Foxhall resort. While none of the off-road obstacles will keep the Toyota TRD Pro crowd up at night, they represented a very realistic look at what a more typical owner might want to do with his or her family SUV. The fact that the Chevy Traverse Z71 has real capability should be celebrated, and with 1.2 inches more ground clearance, underbody skid plates, and a torque vectoring all wheel drive system, we suspect that the Chevy Traverse Z71 trim is capable of even more than we threw at it, which is cool. Maybe the MOST impressive aspect of the Chevy Traverse is the ride quality. Both the new 2024 Chevy Traverse RS and the Z71 ride exceptionally well on and off the road, and since GM SuperCruise is available on both trims, you can go hands free on far more roads than most competing systems. Chevy says up to 750k miles will be mapped by 2025, and we believe it. The Chevy Traverse would allow for SuperCruise on small two lane roads in the country outside of Atlanta. We recently had the brand new Lincoln Nautilus to test, and the Blue Cruise system in that vehicle wasn't even close to as good as SuperCruise, nor did it operate on as many roads. Not even close. With an enormous amount of space for people and things, exceptional ride quality, actual off-road ability, and new Google integrated infotainment, the brand new Chevy Traverse RS and Z71 are finally ready to go head to head with the best from Toyota, Hyundai, and Kia. The Traverse takes some of the best from all of those competitors and puts it into one enormous package. Downsides? Not many. The new Chevy Traverse isn't cheap, with both the Z71 trim and RS trim north of $50k... with the Traverse RS getting dangerously close to $60k. Also, the new 2.5 liter turbo 4 cylinder might make 328 hp and 326 lb-ft of torque, but it sounds terrible doing so. Other than that, the new Chevy Traverse is a winner, and its size and handsome good looks will no doubt appeal to a LOT of potential customers.

    My main complaint about the choice of options for the traverse is, if you want the bose sound system you have to get super cruise. From what i read for super cruise you have to pay for a subscription for it to continue to work after a free 3 year trial. I just want the better sound system.

    It's impressive for sure. If they keep iterating existing platforms into highly competitive vehicles, people will take notice. The Chevy Trax for example has been well received and is excellent for the price. The new Chevy Equinox looks promising. This is a huge improvement over the outgoing Chevy Traverse. They're definitely going in the right direction.

    @@sansin6250 While the Z71 looks fantastic, I'd probably try to convince Megan to go with the RS for the features (cooled seats are nice down here in Georgia) and the slightly crisper ride and handling balance, along with slightly better steering. Plus it's gorgeous in the red and black combo, and we're big UGA fans.

    Nice long review. My question is with this for towing and the 4 cylinder…can it tow a 4,000lbs trailer for 500 miles no issues? I’m told to stick with v6 for long term health of engine. Also, what the heck is the max tongue weight on it?

  • @jax1079

    @jax1079

    2 ай бұрын

    Thanks! Not sure about the max tongue, but I'd probably trust the new turbo 4 more than the old V6, which didn't have the best reputation. The turbo 4 is new but based on the 2.7 used in the trucks, which I would imagine has higher duty ratings than the old V6

    “I would seriously consider buying a vehicle because it was equipped with Super Cruise.” That’s exactly what I’m doing this week, buying an Acadia with Super Cruise sight unseen after having tried Super Cruise on a Lyriq and a Yukon. That the feature is now in a mainstream vehicle, that’s like “would you like a Model T?” Hell yeah. And, I don’t care what that T’s engine sounds like.

    No fog lights they raised the price but cut the engine down from a V6 to a 4 banger.... But hey you have a 20 inch display and 50 different ambient light colors to chose from.... Adding more non practical stuff and taking away the practical to attract the suckers who have high personal debt.

  • @jax1079

    Two things: first, the new engine makes more power and torque while returning better fuel economy over the NA V6 that was notoriously problematic yet everyone suddenly cares about displacement; second, products are dictated by consumer behavior, and the vast (vast) majority of the market has shown it's willing to pay more for tech gadgetry and flair despite rising costs. Consumers are the ones who took out 6, 7, and 8 year loans to buy vehicles they can't afford, which drove up prices.

    You sound like an aging boomer who would rather have a small block that gets 14 miles to the gallon because they're easier to work on your self because they constantly break , and even though you will never need all the torque and hp a smaller displacement just won't do because bragging rights. Also. I bet you say things like- I just like the way it sounds. (Because that's what you really want every single day on your drive to work in city traffic).

That said, The Z71 is one of the nicest (if not the nicest) SUV's I've seen so far this year. Have to see how the new engine holds up.

    All the hype over the new Traverse gadgets to cover up the small 4 cylinder turbo engine. Turbo says the engine is too small, they are pressurizing the small engine to make it produce more power giving false impression you have power. We were interested in a new Traverse but never with a 4 cylinder. We have a 2017 GMC Acadia with a V-6 and have gotten 34 MPG on the highway. No way will the 4-cylinder be able to maintain its power over the life of the vehicle, as the engine wears it will be much less than a V-6 as it wears. GM has lost this customer. Reply
