Everything you should know about Gin & Tonic

The Gin and Tonic has changed a lot through time, so today I’ll teach you everything you need to know about one of the most popular cocktails in the world! I’ll make 3 versions, from the oldest to the modern, starting with an 1850’s G&T with Old Tom Gin and Tonic Syrup. We’ll then move onto the Spanish Gin and Tonic, pairing gin and Fever Tree tonic with botanicals for a more complex experience. Finally, I’ll show you how to make an elegant G&T with KiNoBi japanese gin and Three Cents Tonic to create an elegant and minimalist drink. If you make this cocktail regularly at home you won’t want to miss this episode, so pull up a chair and get your favorite tonic ready as it’s Cocktail Time. Cheers!

    2:20 the "navy proof gin" was above 57° of alcohol and called like that because, if you were to find yourself in a dire situation during a naval battle, in which your gunpowder reserves were soaked wet by sea water, you could pour the spirit on it. 57° is the required abv to get the powder flammable again even if wet, and being able to fire your cannons again. I haven't tested the experience my self due to a lack of cannons, gunpowder barrels and gallion but the anecdote is fun to tell when you wheel out a "navy proof gin" out of your bar 😉

    I have played around with the GnT at parties and find the tonic taste is sometimes unpopular with novice gin drinkers. I make my GnT with 2.5 oz of botanical or dry gin (drinkers' choice), 1 oz (or the juice of one lime, shake in a shaker and strain into a tall glass with ice, top off with tonic water and garnish with a sliver of the lime peel (after expressing the oils). It may not be a purist recipe, but it goes over very well with new gin drinkers and is great at warm weather parties.

    I seem to be one of the odd-balls that actually likes the taste of quinine. My parents and neighbors were big G&T drinkers when I was growing up. They obviously would't let me have the gin, but they let me have tonic water. These days I'm not a big fan of most gins (it's probably my least favorite spirit,) but I still love tonic water. I've found myself often going for a vodka tonic over the G&T, just to let the tonic shine.

    Hello ! I have a question but its related to lemon super juice, today I bought a lot of lemons to make Óleo Saccharum and since I used all the peels already, can i still make lemon super juice with just the lemon juice and not using the peels? I just don’t want them to go bad or hardened since the party is next weekend 😧

  • @KevinKos

    @KevinKos

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey Oscar. The peels are essential for making super juice as they contain all the essential oils the give out the flavor - which is why your oleo saccharum will be so good! Just adding water and citric acid to lemon juice won't give you that boost of flavor you'll get with Super Juice. But what you can do is juice the lemons and freeze the fresh lemon juice! Take it out of the freezer on the day of the party and you'll be good to go. Cheers!
