The DJI Avata 2 is a great drone when you use it right, but if you try and use it outside of what it was designed for it's not so great. Lets talk about what the strengths of this drone are: flight characteristics, image quality, ease of use and safety are just a few, but we can't talk about the great points of the avata 2 without also talking about the bad things. We will cover those as well in this video as we look at the controllers the goggles and what exactly this drone can and cannot do.

    I’ve had the Avata 2 for almost 2 months and I am flipping in love with it. I am 100% a beginner. I did own the DJI mini three pro which I only flew a couple times and pretty much use the active tracking in it and was really bored with it. I thought I was gonna do more with it. But when I saw this new DJI release and all the videos about the motion controller I was hooked. For the past two months I have used nothing but the motion controller and to me, it’s the closest thing of flying. The goggles do a beautiful job with the image while you’re flying. I go out in the morning at sunrise and fly around the treetops weaving in and out just to start my day out. It clears my head and every time I’m done flying, I can tell my heart rate is up because it’s so much fun. I’ve taken it out to two ATV racing events out in the woods and started chasing some of the racers and wow what a blast I had. This thing is so easy to fly with the motion controller. I do wish it went a little faster than 36 mph, but I know there’s a limit with the motion controller and as of right now I’m fine with that. Maybe with some more experience I may get the real controller. My only complaint is the range, it seems any type of obstructions in between me and the drone I lose signal quickly. I am lucky to get 300 yards if I am in the middle of a forest unless I a way up in the air.. But I highly recommend getting one, takes beautiful video in d-log and with the 3 batteries you can fly for awhile

    Purchased the Avata 2 for the image quality. My flights tend to be around sunrise or sunset and I found Avata 1 and O3 air unit being too dark, losing detail in the shadows. Avata 2 is quieter than Avata 1 which reduces the chance of someone being annoyed by my flying. The safety features allow me to relax, giving me a pause button in case someone does come up to talk to me. Goggles 3 is an improvement for me vs Goggles 2, I could never get the whole screen in focus, I even tried multiple types of aftermarket padding. Goggles 3 bottom knobs hold better as Goggles 2 the knobs come loose and require me to refocus. Remote ID built in is so much better than dangling a wire to my phone. The nice thing is you can use the Goggles 2 or Integra Goggles with the Avata 2. You're absolutely right that Avata 2 can't do everything, but a tool that can get most of the smooth FPV style shots. Great video. Enjoyed it. Where those rock spires in California? Reminded me of Trona Pinnalces.

    I'm thinking of getting the Mini 4 Pro or the Avata 2 My plan to use it for real estate videos like exterior drone videos and interior surely im goona do some photography too aside from taking drone videos Im confused about which one should i get because - mini 4 pro doesn't have a wide angle camera guess i can buy one because i need extra wide for interior videos. And it comes with the controller stick - avata 2 doesn't come with controller stick and i heard the camera is not as good as the mini 4 pro especially for photography and low light situation videos But i really want to have the googels but i only have cash for either of them Im a total beginner, not going to do some extreme action FPV but i really love the Googles concept especially if i want to explore nature Hence saying that, which one would you recommend? Would the mini 4 pro will be beyger with the wide angle lenss? - im not going to fo crazy fast fpv shot - just smooth cinematic, maybe low ground shot but i really need the wide angle lense for real estats photography

    Great in-depth overview Jake. It was impressive to see the example shots of the Avata 2 and the Raptor, and how close you got them from a color grade perspective. Very cool to see your daughter flying with the motion controller. I’ve been trying to get my son to do the same 😅 but he hates drones because I always make them wait in the car while I fly lol. Agree on the goggles camera being pointless. Great video 🎉

    What I would really like to see is a video about someone that has flown the avata 2 with the goggles and controller 3 and then fly the same avata 2 with the goggles and controller 2. This would be to see if there is any difference in the performance of the aircraft alone while using either set of goggles and controllers.

    Good review Jake! I have the Avata 1 and have used it on some commercial projects for some short clips. I recently used it for the interior of a 750,000/sf new distribution building. I wasn't super happy with the footage quality but the client loved it so that's what matters. Also, without a GPS lock, the flight log data was not recorded to the iPhone DJI Fly app which was odd. Do you know if this is normal when you don't have a GPS lock? Not a big deal but I use AIRDATA for logging my flights and this one did not show up. I even manually looked for the file in the IOS, but it was not there. I'll sell mine and get the Avata 2 soon for some of the reasons you mentioned and the better video quality.

It got me a bit worried because I only have a DJI Mini 3 Pro (plus the Integra Goggles and the Motion Controller 2) and was thinking about buying a DJI Avata 2 (drone only) for more dynamic videos and a few beginner / low-level jobs like small to medium weddings (ex: in August I will have a wedding where I am supposed to follow a car, follow a boat, fly inside the wedding tent).

    Great video. Researching my first FPV drone and still stuck. I don't do commercial work as such, more event type stuff and music videos + just wanting to do some cinematic stuff, maybe light acro just for fun. Having used DJI camera gimbals for years. Avata 2 was my first stop. It seems to do most of that. An acquaintance dived waterfalls etc so it seemed to be able to probably more than I need it too. At least for the first 12 months or so. Also the longer flight time per battery is a bonus. Bit more research, finding a bit of hate for DJI when others have asked this question and the contender is the GepRC Cinelog 35 v2, especially since you can now use the Goggles 3 with O3 units. It seems to have a bit more kick and is a bit more agile, while still not really built for acro. The extra cost for needed a GoPro is offset by the fact I can use it for non-drone scenarios. I hear these are louder though and not sure if they can hover. Google is not giving me great results on that front. Any insight on the A2 vs the CL35?

  • @JakeSloan

    @JakeSloan

    9 күн бұрын

    I haven’t seen or flown the CL35 so I can’t really comment about it. The avata2 is capable of acro but most the hate come from people who are used the performance and power of a 5” ductless drone. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it in all the use cases you describe. It’s an extremely fun drone to just fly as well. Personally I think the image quality is slightly better than GoPro when you use d-log m

    @@JakeSloan Thank you for that fast reply. Appreciate it. Yeah wouldn't consider shooting in anything but log, so I was happy when I saw that. The wind issue has me a bit worried though, during the summer out here in Sydney, Aus I do photo/video on harbour cruise party boats, can get a bit windy. People say crashing is not a if but a when with FPV and the repairability of the Avata is pretty poor. With the GepRC I can just buy pro guards etc and its all carbon fiber and metal on the body. Ugh still stuck, everytime I talk to someone or watch another video I am just flip flopping. Thank you again for the reply. Seeing the footage of the skiers pushed me towards Avata 2 again.

    The avata 2 is a 20-30% upgrade over the avata 1. It does takes pics. The only downsides to me is flying in windy conditions and its not built like a tank as the OG was.

    Having to buy a new controller /goggles everytime DJI launches a newer version of a drone should be illegal . Not only is the lack of modularity cumbersome and taxing on the pocket but it’s just bad for the environment and a waste of resources . The amount of people sitting with “spare” dji remotes /goggles is insane

    Great video. One thing about the AVATA 2 is it does not film. Videoed on the DJI AVATA 2. It produces DIGITAL Video. :-) Besides, defining what it does is sighting the obvious. :-) You do not film, you video. Film, filming, and filmmaking are the most misused words in the industry. 🙂 Digital Video and film require different skill sets. Having DIFFERENT historical and TECHNOLOGICAL timelines spanning 150 years. Have pride and knowledge of the gear we use including the words that describe what we do. Our tools are Digital Video, Non-linear, and CGI. We are moviemakers, not filmmakers and we do what film wishes it could. We are Videographers and/or cinematographers. 🙂 We video or are videoing, we do not film. That's the other RARE professionals who know how to use film and film cameras, like an ARRIFLEX 435 Panavision R-200 and Steenbeck flatbed film editors. Know the difference and have a better understanding of the craft. You will also stand out in an industry polluted with point-and-shoot "pros". Respect to you.✌♥
