You have explained things better here than the official substance painter channel. So many tutorials are like : do this then do that, without explaining why, which is the most important part if you're trying to learn. Not sure why that is so hard for people. So thank you for this
Finally, someone that can make a properly structured tutorial on this program without coughing/sidetracking/rambling. I thought I'd never find a video explaining how to mask out things. Thank you.

I wanted this badly. With 2 years of gap, I lost touch of 3D pipeline. I am again taking up my passion, Game Desiging and trying to start as a texture artist. Much Love❤.

Hey man, as a fellow game designer, just checking in to make sure you're picking it back up. How's it going?

I originally learned 3d with a main focus on Maya from 2013-2015, I took a gap of 6ish years and picked it back up at the end of 2021. It is tough memorizing proper workflows from start to finish, but it is possible. I had to learn Zbrush and Substance from scratch to catch up to the industry standards.

Same brother.. I start 3D with 3 years of gap after covid .
im blown away, in this one tutorial I didn't just learn the proper workflow for substance painter but it illuminated me on modeling as a whole
I've seen like, more than 50 videos tuto, and this one, in only ONE video, is way WAY better than every stuff I'vve seen on substance painter. There's little tricks & options I've just never seen or heard about. It''s clear, simple, and not stupidly slow with useless talking. Thanks a lot for that !
I've been having a hard time understand my substance painter class in college but this helped me SO MUCH!!! You explained everything so well thank you!
This video is a godsend! My go-to for learning & refreshing my memory on baking specifically, but there's a ton of useful things to pick up from this. Fantastic work, thanks a ton!
Def one of the most concise and well explained substance vids out there. Thank you.
Concise and straight to the point. I like how this tutorial doesn't just gives you how-to instructions but actually aims to help you understand the basics of the overall functions in the software. Helped me big time. Keep it up!
One of the most comprehensive tutorials i have ever seen.. makes me want to go and retexture every model I have ever done
This is the best tutorial for beginners that I've found by far. Thank you so much.
U explained really well i was so afraid of texturing running from it but now i think I can try it
Such a good tutorial. the first one i watched was an hour long, not very easy to understand, and made me learn how to make my textures in photoshop instead. Now i can use this tutorial to make things that actually fit my object and have the imperfections
Thanks for breaking down the bottom-to-top process. That is an extremely helpful concept that honestly seems to unlock a good portion of the thinking required to work with this program.👏
dude. this was straight to the point awesome. brevity is key to keeping my attention and i breezed through this at 1.5x playback speed understanding everything. you should do one for the 3d modeling portion of that robot and the rig. really cool stuff dude!
This really helped me out, I'm currently in college studying gamedev. We have blender classes and we also use Substance for texturing, our teacher made a tutorial and he explained this program for 3.5 hours, I just wasn't feeling like watching it all. Thank you for this video!

The best substance painter tutorial out there, many thanks :D
Amazing content! Thank you so much. The way you explain is super easy to understand and clarified a lots of questions I had.
Awesome, thank you. Straight and to the point while still very clearly getting the point across. I was able to follow along and didn't feel like I needed to go back and rewatch a part several times to better understand something. Jumping back into Substance Painter after not using it since 2017-2018 is a bit daunting, especially since I didn't really use much of it in the past. However, I've been really interested in learning it from the ground up recently (more for personal use than anything), and figured now is as good a time as any. Tutorials like this make it seem so much easier for a beginner while giving me confidence to do more.
Thank you so so much, u don't understand how much this has helped me, keep up the good work man
The most awesome Substance Painter video I have seen, It feels like I am already a Pro. Thanks Alot.
Thank you so much for this. I'm learning to paint VRChat models, and this is immeasurably helpful.
GREAT INTRODUCTORY WALKTHROUGH. Thank you.
This is a brilliant tutorial, clear, concise and highly informative. Nice1!
Incredible piece of software and great tutorial! really helped me get started, thank you.

This is the tutorial i've always needed. I wanted to get into substance for years now but I could never wrap my head around its features. Now I actually want to get a subscription for latest version.
Phenomenal tutorial! This covers an entire course's worth of content 😀
Too good! Thanks for sharing this excellent video.
Thank you so, so much! I've been feeling super lost whenver I've opened Substance Painter. I like using the Maya Hypershade with tons of nodes, and just figured I'd do that for my current project. I didn't expect such a helpful beginner video! You really took some of the intimidation with your great explanations. Looks like I'm gonna delve into Substance Painter after all.
Super nice video. Clear and informative instructions. You are a good teacher. I learned a lot. Thank you for doing this.
Great Tutorial Thanks!!!!
This is a life-saver. Thanks a lot!
Ooohhhh need it ⚡🔥🙏🏽
Great tutorial......keep up the good work...mate!!

Thanks!
Best toturial for SP - Grand Mercy for your job!
By far the best Substance Painter video I have seen. If possible, is there any chance you can make a video on Houdini
You guys can jump into by the head! Best explanation of how materials works together over the layers!
I never comment here, but let me tell you this. After graduating and wanting to enter the industry, this video was more helpfull than 3 full semesters on 3d work, thank you so much!
YOU ARE AWSOME !!!
I was intimidated by this software for a long time until I found this tutorial.
wow content 👍🏼
Great vid! A lot of handy info explained well, thank you! Is that yellow or orange? I might be going colour blind....
Thanks for this tutorial! Ok I get that you eed to bake mesh maps every time. I just don't understand exactly what goes on when that happens.
Just started learning substance. This solved everything I was trying to figure out when I was playing around. Thanks Mate
Great tutorial!! I wanted to ask if you guys UV unwrapped in planar or camera based?
I finally understand why those maps are generated and what they do... scenarios they are used nd all...Thankyou so much for this.❤
HI Mate, wholesome video. can u enlighten me how did u merge these uv maps at the beginning? ill apperciate it
nice
this was a really good video . but i do feel that i was only able to follow this as a beginner because of my deep understanding of Blender and the mechanics of how it works . i would say that this is a great video to watch after doing a very beginner level course where all the basics are explained to the level of like Blender Guru and the Donut .
This is so brilliant. Amazing. But guys I have but one request. Can you make a detailed advanced tutorial for Substance.? That has more details for intermediate/advanced users. Thanks !

I LOVE USING SUBSTANCE(s)
If you get this error: [Library agent] Preset cannot be saved: A default library must be specified when saving a smart material then save, press ctrl+f4 to close your project. Next hit edit, settings and libraries and make a new foldeer to be stored somewhere. Then make this your default folder.
Have you a video about preparing a model for texturing? Need some help with UV mapping lol
Well I don't have a robot like yours but I hve mine (my pfp) which I'm gonna use for this exercise 👍
Very nice intro how do we apply a decal or logo on it ? thanks
Where did you get all of those metal textures?
Are the maps you exported at the end of the video also uv maps? Thanks.
There is something off in this video. You are using Blender and then you are saying something for maya and also the normal map for Blender is Open GL and you are choosing Direct X 😏
❤❤❤❤❤
When it comes to your uv maps i see that your head one, since its only one object has much bigger islands than lets say the arms since they consist of more objects, does the difference in island size in between those texture sets matter at all?
personal references: 8:05 - masking 16:20 - mesh fill (!!!)

Could you please explain what is bake function. Should we bake the model before paint?
@juniornxumalo3225

if i'm not mistaken , baking is what you do when you want to turn UV Maps into workable images
Discovered today your Substance Painter course. Unfortunately when I search for the "steel rough" material there is no one labeled steel rough. I have a default installation of Substance Painter. Where can I get that material?
Hi, sorry I'm new to Substance Painter and was wondering why you get a lot more materials than me with the search term "metal"...e.g. I didn't find the steel material with me :) but nice video!

9 months late but same and i wae like where is itttt duhhh
Good tutorial but if it’s for complete beginners you should explain how to navigate the UI and not quickly click through different windows withput explaining what you’re doing.
all in one lecture
do i have to uv unwrap the model inside blender or does it happen inside substance?
How do you rotate the view?
i rarely find there is a scale slider attached to any smart materials. it is instead attached to a single layer within the material, and sometimes multiple layers are all scaled similarly to produce the wear effect. is there a way to adjust the scale in them all at once? or any quicker way than adjusting the scale one layer at a time?
@MikeSmith3D
4 ай бұрын
Being able to universally scale a smart material all at once with everything inside of it is something the community has been asking for for a really long time. Last I checked, the feature hasn't been added yet. Hopefully Adobe will update that soon.
The Download for the free version dont work. Its still asking for payment.

For anyone wondering how to get the worker robot for free now. You just have to create an account(I did with google connect) then you just dont pay and click the link.
what if i already have textures from blender and wish to edit them using substance painter? I tried adding resources to project and applying it to base color but it will not update in the viewport.
how do I sort the part of my models from Maya because you use a blender which I don't use so make another video about it again but in Maya
I have a question, I see the properties tab but when I click on a material none of the settings pop up, is there a way to fix this?
@MikeSmith3D
Жыл бұрын
Sometimes that happens to me and I realize I'm clicking on the outer folder for a smart material. See if you can expand it to find the layers inside.
using the polygon fill tool, if I select faces to paint on one side of the head, it seems to affect the other side of the head as well. How do I constrain it to just affect the part I can see?
@foxtrotsierraproductions8626
11 ай бұрын
make a new uv or use decal on mesh
Hopefully a simple question but if we import a low poly model with baked normals from blender and add that when we set up a new file, we don’t need to bake another normal and world space normal map when going through right?
@MikeSmith3D
4 ай бұрын
You dont need to bake the normal map again. But worldspace normals are different so you should bake that one if you don't already have one.
