    I planted a PW Double Play Artisan Spirea. How do I avoid getting Powdery mildew on the new leaves or best natural approach of treatment?

  • @pwcolorchoice

    @pwcolorchoice

    3 ай бұрын

    Powdery mildew is more likely to occur in humid areas that don't have good air circulation, avoid planting plants too closely to one another, overhead watering can also increase the risk of powdery mildew. Because it is a fungus, removing infected leaves and cleaning up the fallen ones around the plant can help to minimize it.

    Does anyone know if this plant will come back as (excessive) multiple individual shoots if its cut completely to the ground?

  • @pwcolorchoice

    @pwcolorchoice

    2 ай бұрын

    It will come back as multiple shoots - I don't think they're likely to be excessive, but it would depend on the age of the plant, as well as how much water and nutrients it receives.

  • @pwcolorchoice

    Most likely, the plant is simply going dormant due to the time of year, and that's completely normal. If you'd like to reach out to us here with some photos, that would help us give you the very best advice. If you are in USDA zone 6b, the loropetalum will probably not survive winter outdoors, so I would suggest trying to overwinter that in a cool, bright spot indoors with good air circulation. It still may not survive, as this will be a stressful situation for it, but it will have a better chance than being outdoors. You can send your message and add photos from this link, www.provenwinners.com/feedback

    I just planted a Double Play Doozie spirea, and it seems it doesn't like being transplanted from the pot. The blooms are turning brown and it's late spring. I dead headed them and I really hope the blooms come back and the plant doesn't fade out.

    That can be very annoying! The best method for helping with this is to use gardening gloves and your hose to wash off the aphids, using your hands to rub the little buggers off the foliage.

    🐝Double play doozy doesn’t set seeds!? What about the pollen? With the concerns about bees health pollen count has become critical. The more hybridized plants are becoming the less pollen they have. What does it do then relating to pollen when they’re not setting seeds? No pollen is my guess. Please consider pollen when selecting your spirea and other lovelies. 🐝🐝 I live my spirea and am selecting more. Thanks for the well done vid!

  • @pwcolorchoice

    So glad you enjoyed the video! ☺ Whether or not a plant sets seed, and if that seed is viable if it does set - is a function of the female portions of a plant's reproductive system. Since pollen is the male gametophyte of a plant, its presence has no bearing on a plant's sterility. So pollen and nectar can both be abundant in a flower but it would be considered sterile because no seed develops from pollination.
