I don't know why everyone give others the awkward look when they tell them they wash their hair once or twice a week, it's actually good for the hair because washing it so many times strips the hair follicles, the root from its natural oils so it produces more oils than it should be and that's why it gets oilier and dirtier when you leave it two days unwashed...

Kad Fayrouz ever since I've bleached my high (full foils) I'm able to go like without showering for awhile.. I guess people just take it as we aren't clean but just cause we don't wash our hair doesn't mean we do clean our body

My hair takes about a month without a wash to get oily, and even then it's only at the roots. My hair is so dry naturally, even when it wasn't bleached. I wash it about once a fortnight and I have to rub oils into it all the time for it not to feel like straw.

Having red hair I only wash my hair once every 4 days. It helps keep my red hair fresh and it doesn't fad as fast as if I were washing it every day.

If your hair turns purple after leaving the purple shampoo in too long, you can also use dawn dish soap to help get out the purple streaks.

Outstanding, thank you for answering many questions. No judgments on washing your hair once a week, I do the same, but my white and grey are natural, and if I wash it more than that, it dries out my hair and it looks brittle. I stopped using purple shampoo as it gives my grey hair a purple tone, and my silver hair white, so I just spritz my hair every morning with a mixture of conditioner and a little bit of purple conditioner in a bottle of water. Very interesting that your hair turns yellow from the sun, maybe because your hair is not natural? The sun makes EVERY silver hair I have super white in the summer. Outstanding video!!

I bought my first organic shampoo which name is Argan Rain and loved it. The lather was good and my hair was really shiny. Maybe its the improvement in the formula since this article was written. I wash my platinum hair 3X weekly, its an oily mess, I use dry shampoo in between washings. I've been using a few drops of purple shampoo in my regular hydrating shampoo...hair color is PERFECT.

Love your hair. Also: you discuss why hair takes in that yellowish every few weeks and I always thought it's really due to your hairs biology or .....melanin (?). In that it's not irons or muck in the air but literally your body/hair follicles just doing what it does- reverts to yellows etc.

i have a problem!! :'( I'm currently bleaching my hair to blonde.. and I did a test strand to see how well it bleaches and how much brassiness will occur..well, luckily it didn't turn gold, but it was a mixture of blonde and little of orange. To remove that brassiness, I made a DIY toner. I kinda used a semi permanent aubergine purple along with a conditioner. It became quite a dark color, and I kept it for about 5-10 mins on my hair. After washing my hair just turned the same shade as the color!! I don't know what to do now..please help me..:'(

Steven Nguyen you might dilute the purple shampoo to a lavender because with orange the reg. purple shampoo is dark and I think leaves a darker less pleasant look. The only thing purple works with really is yellow - some of your orange hair also presumably has yellows and it's hard to explain but from my experience (oy vey a lot on this dark brunette I've been self experimenting toward a light ash brown forever) but from my experience mixoyt the purple shampoo in your palm and add about same amount or rather half the amount of white conditioner and rub together to get a lighter purple and you have to go pretty light imo. Again, hard to explain but the other option u ask about turns it dark in my experiences.

Steven Nguyen yeah, I thought of something to add...lol..: but basically to clarify orange won't get a lot from purple shampoo. However if you want a little or whatever is possible do what I mention. It's not life changing etc but should help the yellows.

I have a purple shampoo and it's not shimmer lights but if I don't follow up with a regular shampoo like my Wella shampoo it leaves my hair rough feeling and stiff );

I wash my hair once a week too! It took me awhile to get there but it does not get oily.

I am heading towards the gray/silver color of my hair to blend it with my gray roots to keep from having to color or tone as often. I'm looking for a good shampoo to help with that process. Right now I am actually toned a med ash blond lol from my toner grabbing too quickly, and darkening it that dark after just being on for 5 mins. I know that will fade quickly during shampooing though, so I'm not concerned about that. My blonde underneath is about a level 7 or 8. I'm debating between needing to use the purple or the silver shampoo in this brand to help me get to where I'm going. Have you ever used the silver shampoo, and if so which do you suggest for my goal?

I much prefer the Blond Brilliance lathering toner. Its super underrated, and its super pigmented! Unlike other purple shampoos, it doesnt dry out my porous hair at all.

I just had my hair done and my ends lifted to mint green. After the stylist tried to tone it, the mid section (where the bleach lifted color properly) turned brassy and the ends because ashy with a green tint. What would purple shampoo do in this case?

Dalia H you would use something red toned (opposite color on the color wheel) if you want to neutralize it. If you want it to stay green then get a shampoo that deposits green (yes they have hat too).

Can I use the purple shampoo the same day that I bleach it?? And my hair will definitely pick up and "grab" other colors so how long should I leave it on?? I've been a blonde for many years but this will be my first go around with the purple shampoo!! If you could share your wisdom I'd be super grateful!!

Crystal Lynn Grove my experience with using purple shampoo right after bleaching, is it seems to stain it purple quicker, I guess.. but it always washes out after a couple of washes. I'm usually okay with a little purple tint to my hair tho. I hope that was slightly helpful.

I'm confused about the argument that heat, especially the sun can darken your hair (the tanning bed analogy). I might be missing something obvious but I'm pretty sure the sun makes your hair lighter? No matter what your hair colour is. Is that not correct?

My hair is baby soft and gets super oily by the end of the day. Are there any products that I can use to keep it looking fresh and give me some texture/body? Everything I have tried seems to cause buildup and grease even faster.

there are shampoos for your hair type~ usually if your hair tempt to oil up quickly shampoos with any kind of lime or lemon are good. usually they neutalize the oil. and dont worry if your hair feels super dry after using it ( while its still wet) it will soften up after drying. also i recommand to let your hair dry on air and without a blowdryer. last but not least, if you use a treatment, conditionern rinsen mask, after dry oil or anything like that never put it on your roots. if you want to use this kind of product only massage it in the ends of your hair. putting it on the roots makes your hair loose volume and get oily more quicker~^^ i hope i was in any way helpful~^^

Deanna Scheer it depends on how brassy it is. If there's a lot of orange then no because you would want a blue shampoo because blue cancels out orange, purple cancels out yellow :)

Why does my hair always turn purple/grey when I use purple shampoo trying to get rid of my yellow/brassiness tones (right next to my roots n some threw out) n I use clarifying shampoo to take the purple color out it takes out the “toning” the purple shampoo just did…What else can I try/use to get this brass out??? My hair is like a sponge from damage I cut it so it’s super short now but installing extensions so they will help hide the brass but the top n roots still show need product N brand recommendations??? And do u know if companies get “sample sizes” to try before buying $50+ of products I can’t use? Thought I would ask

I just died all of my hair using Feria absolute blonde followed by the wella t18 toner and my hair turned out to be 2 different colors. ShiAne Bradburn when you bleach roots they tend to lift to a different color due to heat and porosity. try using a darker toner at the roots to give some dimension.

Hi. I have been researching "purple shampoos" and found this super helpful. I stopped dying my hair almost eight months ago after YEARS of coloring. I get an allergic reaction to hair dye and took Benadryl before my appointments to help with the itching etc. So my question is do you think using a purple shampoo and conditioner with cause me the same problem? I know you can't know for sure how my scalp will react - but I have no idea if these products are similar to hair dye. Thanks for your help.

whippycake How long do you leave in your toner? I’m bleaching my hair to platinum and it’s almost there but has a slight yellow tone to it. I was thinking about using the purple shampoo to tone it out because the last time I used the T18 I left in 15 minutes and my hair was a dark grey when I washed it out and it took a week before it faded to a cool blonde. Is there a time frame you’d recommend to avoid going straight grey?

Hello @whippycake !! I just recently watched your purple shampoo video about using it while its dry. I wanted to ask you how often do you do that process in a week? Just once a week I suppose right? I recently went to the salon and got my hair bleached to a platinum blonde color but I would really like to get it to your hair color. I was amazed by the drastic difference to using the purple shampoo on dry hair and how it brightened out so much. I'll be doing that process tomorrow to see how it goes for me!!

Cindi Sheehan I've had well water my whole life and it def leaves a residue over time. the purple shampoo takes out the orangey brass color for me. I have blonde highlights from a salon. :)

What if my hair is more like a dirty blonde or a little lighter? Should I use purple shampoo? (I'm bleaching and toning my hair soon)
