I love bears
European brown bears can also grow quite big. I had a chance to handfeed a 500kg. Big boy brown bear called Juuso in Kuusamo Finland.

It depends on location and diet. If they have access to enough protein while growing, they can grow just as big as American browns, however top 10% by size will be smaller than top 10% in America due to centuries of overhunting of bears and their prey. Natural selection simply favored smaller bears because large ones were killed or starved due to human intervention. If salmon returned to European rivers, wolves to European forest (to provide carrion for bears to scavenge), natural selection may once again favor larger bears over smaller ones.

@@lamebubblesflysohighThat is incorrect. Both the grizzly and the european/eurasian brown bear weigh upwards to about 350kg (some can grow significantly bigger, up to 500kg) and stand at more than 2m (7ish feet) tall. The grizzly is not bigger, they are pretty much equally sized.

They used to live all over europe but they got hunted to extinction in most places, they are however returning now
