    Tbh as an international student I'm really looking forward to apply to parsons after my High school bcz i really love nyc it's one of my goals to live there but I'm really nervous bcz no one in my family ever went out of our hometown for studies and living in a wild city like New York all alone is a task in itself:)!!

I’ve wanted to live in NYC and go to Parsons for a long time but I’ve never really known how hard it was! Thank you for this video!!

    hi there! since i have been there/with the pandemic they have changed staff as well as what dorms are upper or lower classmen so i feel like my opinion or advice wouldn’t be very beneficial since basically it’s all changed. typically the all freshman dorm (it use to be stuy but i’m not sure now which one it is) is pretty poppin and a great way to meet people. they also are opening a brand new one that would be probably the nicest as far as physical space with kerrey hall being second nicest.

    I'm trying to figure out if parsons is the right school for me. My mom attended parsons in the 80's and has made all the same points you made with the campus and what not. I love New York city and have visited since I was a little girl because I live so close. I also am not a very social sort of football team spirit sort of person haha (I hate high school football games), so I don't think I would mind being in a school like this. Ah! I love the whole idea of the first year and everyone takes the same classes (my mom said freshman year was her favorite year by far). I have to apply to colleges next year and am going to be working on my portfolio more this year!

    This was a super helpful video!! I have a question. Given that Parsons doesn’t have a huge campus that you can walk around in (I understand it’s because of its location) do you ever feel like you miss the big campus experience? Are there aspects to the Parsons life that you wouldn’t get from a university with a large campus or sports clubs etc...? Also, are there good options to earn extra money working part-time? Sorry for hounding you w questions 😬 Thanks ❤️

  • @KENHAN

    @KENHAN

    3 жыл бұрын

    hi there!!! i definitely feel like i “missed out” on the big campus experience which was one of the hardest parts about my first year for me. i felt a huge sense of fomo watching all my friends from back home go to tailgates and large house parties but quickly realized i liked the mature nature of city bars and clubs anyway so it didn’t both me after a while. (plus i went to visit some friends at other colleges and once you’ve been to one state school party you’ve been to them all in my opinion) as for jobs there are a lot of different opportunities! the new school offers part time student jobs to students who qualify for work study, many businesses in the area have flexible shift hours for students, and with a lot being remote now you can get many gigs that way! internships are also a great way to make extra money and gain experience. i typically worked 2-3 jobs a semester on top of my 15-18 credit course load (sometimes tough and left for little social life but worth it in my book) don’t be afraid to ask local businesses if they’re hiring and upper classmen if they know of anything once you get settled in! hope this helps :) -ken ⚡️🤍

  • @KENHAN

    @KENHAN

    3 жыл бұрын

    hi there! i’m so glad this helped!! this is a great question and probably the factor i had to think about the most when it came down to making my decision. i knew at some point in my life i wanted to live in new york city and the timing of doing that in my college years seemed like a great fit for me. new york is expensive regardless of when you come and i really counted on becoming an RA which i knew would help subsidize my cost out of pocket for living in new york city. i also heard that graduating from parsons as a design student holds a lot of weight when getting jobs in that field because of the schools standing those two factors are inevitably why i chose to come!

    i’m so glad!! i definitely recommend applying to other other colleges as back up (i did the same thing) just to be safe. i also think the summer program you’re doing will be beneficial! as far as applying just be yourself! they’re is nothing specific their looking for besides potential and passion for what you do! make sure to utilize the essay portion of each piece you submit this really allows them to see your intentions behind the piece and potential ways you want to continue to improve it!

    hi there!! yes, i am currently filming a video all about the process of becoming an RA + my responsibilities once i entered the role that i’m planning on posting this sunday or next! but the best way to become an RA is get involved in your residence hall! join hall council, attend programs, talk to your HRE staff and floor RA! being a active community member helps show people you’re invested in creating a positive living environment for others as well! (if you don’t live in the dorms find friends that do and go with them or look on the schools website and find people who work in the HRE department and email them!)

Like, 1) are scholarships available for international students?? 2) do u have like a fixed timetable?? 3) does Parsons help u get a job ? 4) are short courses available?? 5) do u need to know to draw and be really creative to be in Parsons? 6) how severe is the fees? 7) does Parsons have events like fashion shows and programs where u design a specific dress and u put it on models and the models do the cat walking before everyone ??(I'm really sorry , I know u're not a fashion design student but if u know about this pls answer) 8) do u get to roam around between lectures? 9) how do u rate the interior designs of Parsons? 10) have I asked too many questions?? Sorry!!😇😇🙃🙃 Tnx

    hi there!! glad this helped you!! i’m going to try to briefly answer all of your questions but am planning on doing another school video so can go into more depth on answers there soon! 1) yes as far as i know every student is eligible for scholarships 2) every semester you pick your classes based on what requirements you need and it is a set weekly schedule for that semester 3) no 4) from my knowledge all courses are offered only on a semester basis (15 weeks) im not sure if that is long or short to you 5) you do not to be the best “drawer” to succeed at parsons but i would say naturally being a creative problem solver or just overall creative person is quite literally essential. 6) this all depends on your personal financial situation so i’m not sure how much guidance i can provide. all expenses are publicly available online 7) i have never heard or seen a fashion show where people actually model the dresses at school for class. most people bring in photos of people wearing it or put it in a foam form for their finals 8) that all depends on how you set up your schedule/when your required classes are offered. i’ve had times where i have hours in between classes and other times where i go straight from one class to another 9) i know several people who studied interior design at parsons and even have personally taken a few interior design classes. i can’t really give it a rating cause i haven’t experienced it nor have another interior program to compare it to. i will say it is a smaller major/program/focus compared to others which has its benefits and hurdles as well

    I don't know a lot of specifics on the post grad/grad level courses. I'd imagine you'd need to have all of the skills one would learn in an undergrad fashion program so if you submitted a portfolio with pieces you've made I think you'd stand a really good chance of getting in, but if you're looking to learn everything from the ground up I would suggest starting at a different level. They also offer some online certificate programs relating to fashion as well! -ken
