  • @RockstarBarGirl

    @RockstarBarGirl

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hey Catherine! thank you for watching. I'm excited to hear about your interview. I fell in love with beer when I managed a craft beer bar. To answer your question, I think that one thing that new bartenders do when it comes to beer is waste it by not pouring from the tap properly. Taps can be very temperamental and they each pour a little differently. Some beers can just pour headier (foamier) than others. If you're working with a heady tap, pour your pint half way, let it settle for a minute, and then top it off. Rather than letting a ton of foam run off in a futile attempt to get a nice pour. Maybe try to find a way to sneak in that you do that because it's important to you not to waste perfectly good beer (and therefore restaurant money) just because you're impatient. As a manager, I would like to hear something like that. Hope that helps. Good luck!!

    RockstarBarGirl Hi! Thanks for your reply back! 😀 The info was very helpful but I’m actually going to be pouring straight from the bottle not a tap. Yes I’ve seen in the movies where they have the beer just pouring right out of the mugs and like that’s not even the way it supposed to be done they think it looks cool and all but it’s not.

    Marina great question. Those drinks are called "hard beverages" as they often contain too high of an alcohol content to be considered beer, but too little to be considered a cordial. Technically, they are all in a category of their own. But in a bar setting , they are usually treated the same way bottled beer would be: Served in a cold glass, kept in the fridge, similar price, etc. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!

    I've watched many of your Videos and liked them. But I am from Germany and this video is some bullshit. A beer needs much foam on top of it. The foam holds the taste of the beer under it and is delicious. A high quality beer will have long standing foam. It is an actual skill to be able to pour a beer with the perfekt amount of foam. I dont know if it is usual in the US to get a beer like that but I would not pay for a beer without foam and in those wrong glas in Germany.

    Sorry, but you have no idea of beer... The cloudiness of wheat has absolutely nothing to do with the type of grain but with filtering or no filtering. A barley lager which is not filtered is as cloudy as an unfiltered wheat, and a filtered wheat ale is as clear as a normal lager.

    Jeremy Singer Hi there! Thanks for your comment. For this video, and much of the content on my page, I try to keep things very beginner to help people who maybe arent professional brewers and cicerones to be able to pass an interview and get that first bartending job. Rather than focusing on the different fermentation temperatures for ales and lagers, which I fully understand, or the different types of yeast used to create both, I focused on basic flavor profiles and brands because that is what a new beginner bartender actually needs to know to get a job and do it. Maybe I will make a more advanced beer video one day. In the mean time, why dont you make one? Im sure it would be great! Thanks for watching! 🙂

    I am sorry but I need to inform everyone who is viewing this video that the host knows very little about beer. The host makes almost fifty informational errors and the presentation of the beer itself is wrong on so many levels. Even the bar basics are wrong. First of all, use glasses that are not cloudy in appearance but clear. It just looks bad and looks unclean. The glass you have chosen to pour the majority of your beers is a shaker glass. A shaker glass is the worst glass to use for beer (it kills the head too quickly among other negatives). It is one half of a cocktail mixing vessel (the other half is stainless and when combined with the glass one shakes the cocktail prior to serving in another glass - basic bar tending stuff here). When pouring a beer, do not touch the neck of the bottle to the glass at any time. The glasses are not clean because when you poured them bubbles are clearly clinging to the side of the glass. This means that there is either detergent or grease present. I can go on and on about the errors in your descriptions of the beers (hoppy is not a proper descriptor - not all hops are bitter and many contribute a wide of aroma and flavor and are not bitter at all). Also hops have been used in beer for hundreds of years and are not a new thing. Please leave the beer videos to the brewers and certified beer experts (who have taken accredited courses on the subject). Beer is a very complex beverage and needs to be explained properly and with a passion.

    Your glass is filthy! Please, if you are going to educate people about serving beer, understand the basics yourself, like how to recognise a dirty glass. Those bubbles attached to the side of your glass indicate 'nucleation points.' These type of ucleation points are caused by impurities stuck to the inside of the glass, often from food/oil residue. Nucleation points can denature the beer, impart external flavours, as well as potentially change the aroma/flavour profile and mouthfeel. IPA - NO! IPA's aren't brewed with spices, never have been! So very, very wrong. Also, India, not Indian. Most people who come up and say that they don't like beer have only ever tried those commercial lagers you talked about. They are more likely to be put off by that "typical" commercial lager smell and flavour. Lager vs. Ale - 2 main families of yeast, ale and lager. That is now most people in most countries would differentiate them. Your generalisation on ale vs lager are a bit off. Alcohol content comes from the level of fermentable sugars available and the ability of a given yeast to eat those sugars. Sweetness isn't as simple as the amount of malt, but the balance between residual sugars and apparent bitterness. Many craft ales will contain more malt than commercial lagers, but present as more bitter. Saying a beer is "hoppy" doesn't cut it. You need to understand the difference between hop aroma/flavour and hop bitterness. No need to mention how ales weren't made with hops. This is a reference from hundreds of years ago, no need to confuse the situation. Wheat beers are also brewed with barely but have a higher proportion of wheat. Hoegaarden Wit is brewed with orange peel. Try reading 'Tasting Beer' by Randy Mosher.

    Good summary! Her video is full of errors. Not much of a server/bartender if she can't even use clean glassware for her presentation. This video belongs in the category of "how not to do an information video"
