Everything You Always Wanted from a Space Game... (But it's Not Starfield)

Ойындар

Now Bethesda have announced the Starfield release date I started exploring the sci-fi space game genre to see what it has to offer. Today we explore the open world RPG Spaceborne 2 which promises many of the gameplay features Starfield will apparently have and more. Spaceborne 2 is a single-player, open-universe RPG and third-person shooter game with an abundance of features, including role-playing, mining, trading, piracy, crafting, and deep exploration. The story picks up where it left off in SpaceBourne, but now the player's goal is to build a new empire in the galaxy, with the methods of doing so being completely up to the player. This is a first impressions of SpaceBourne 2 gameplay, in this part 1 walkthrough I will give my first impressioss of Spacebourne 2 and compare its gameplay to what I’m most excited about in new Starfield gameplay. Bethesda have recently announced the Starfield release date to be the 6th of September. The world of space has always fascinated us, and the thrill of exploring it is something that many of us have imagined. As Starfield approaches I want to delve into the space game genre and explore space gameplay from Elite Dangerous, No Man’s Sky, Kerbal Space Program, Star Citizen, Eve Online, Freelancer, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, FTL Faster than light and the Star Trek games to see what they have to offer.

Thats a massive oversimplification. This game has a lot of stuff been reused from the first game, also it is not a single guy, its a single producer a.k.a. a single group of people working on it. Comparing this to Star Citizen is no-sense, SC has the most modern technology they personally created from scrap available (which takes a huge amount of time to do) and the game is of a far above quality in all aspects, graphic wise, physics -wise, sound-wise etc. This is not a "small thing" to consider, it is the whole point. It doesnt take much time to do what these guys did with a team, while it actually does take a lot of time to do what SC is doing considering also that most of the work for SC is going into the Single Player campaign and not the Multiplayer one. Again, its like comparing an average quality product vs a top quality product: the top quality product will always require much more time and caring to do.

I got about 140+ hours in Spacebourne 2. I would say I know a little bit about it. Just some FYI advice. When in space combat and you get a missile lock on you hit X to fire flares to make them avoid you. When you approach a planet hit B and this will show all the locations on the planet. You can select the one you want to land at. If you have a mission on the planet it will be purple in color. This game is very full of massive surprises and can give you lots of fun. I know I have had a huge amount of fun finding all of the in's and out's of this game. I was also very shocked that one guy did this. The guy has some talent that is for sure! 😁👍 Oh, and you can "Raid" a Village for Loot only once. Then sell it at a station or outpost. Good way to build up your money. You will need a good sniper rifle to do this and hang back from the village. Just take note of the planet and the village you looted, you can't loot it again. Well you can, it's just that all the homes will be blocked off and empty of Loot. You will only get the drops from the ones you snipe and the main building if it is that type of village that has one. If not, don't bother. 😉👍 Mercenary missions will give you these types of missions and those villages are not NPC ones they are generated for the mission. This is a Very good way to make early cash! Look for the Loot fugitive or Pirate village missions after you finish the Mercenary Task mission. They may not be high level stuff, but the stuff will get you on your way to getting better at raiding. 👍😉

Lol that's what I've been doing for cash. Tried mining but it was slow, even using a script with voice attack. Found out about pillaging the villages and haven't looked back since. I usually kill the few they send out after me, then go back into the village to raid another structure, then jet pack it close to the ground out of the village again before they take you out, then rinse and repeat. With a bit of practice it's the best get rich quick method in the game. I've pulled multi millions from a single village raid. I'm betting at some point it will be patched out or at least nerfed to some extent.

IF you want to go big with space games you have to be a very large studios with a lot of money behind, games like this one can make their fortune based on the fact they are basically a one man work and hence will be valuated as such. In no world the community would accept any space game with a "warp jump into planet surface" after Elite and SC (especially the latter put that into a whole different scale with all the seamless things that manage). Let's be real, these products are amazing but we should always keep the perspective clear, not overhyping things just to see them fail brutally after some time. This game has potential but pumping it so much to expect it go beyond Elite and SC is kinda crazy imho and could potentially backfire hard over the author if he can't manage the expectation of the playerbase (look what did Sony marketing over NMS).

Even in time of Flash games I knew famous "single developer" that in reality hired around 30 freelances who did majority of work... AI voice is gonna make even more impressive stuff possible once you consider that nowadays you don't need to use "text-to-speech", but can do "voice to different voice". So that lone developer could just speak all the voice lines themselves, with the pacing and emphasis they had in mind (which completely falls short in run of the mill TTS) and then use an AI tool to morph their voice into a completely different one. It's absolutely insane what is possible there now, especially when having a small budget.

Keep an eye out for them throughout the game if you're interested in possibly finding free money or new gear that someone left lying around not bolted down. And the green things that fly out of dead enemies are cash and ammo pickups, those you get automatically. The other items they drop are cargo or gear, which you need to manually collect because you do have a limit on your inventory size for those.

I like the AI voices. It makes me think like that's the galactic universal translator working it's magic in your ear. Also, if it's truly procedurally generated and to include generated quests and npcs, the AI voice would be necessary. Further, if it generates voice from text, it would make modding easier (assuming the game is even moddable)

Sci-Fi has always had a staple of world building with different quality of products. While the nice shining white orbital habit of rich folks would be translators that handle the nuisances of inflections, culture turns of phrase, and idioms... This guy has the 7-11 knock model that is basically one-size-fits-all. It handle languages... mostly... but since inflections are different between languages, not to mention species, those don't work so well. Remember, this character has a scrapped together Frankenstein ship and can't pay his rent. I doubt he has a subscription to a top on the line inter-stellar translator capable of turning any language of any species into perfectly inflected English with a unique voice for each speaker.

Didn't really think about that, but yeah, it would make sense if they explained it has a translator device. Maybe the character can put it in his ear in the beginning of the game.

From someone who spent a short time interacting with game companies but had friends in passing that developed games and some who have gone onto big things, games like this do so well cause of small teams or one person as 1000s of dollars isn't spent making decisions. Clearly, careful and clever usage of assets from the marketplace are being used. No need to hire an art team when there are so many artists selling their libraries on the marketplace to be used in projects like this.. This developer has clearly paid a lot of attention to games like Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous and has used cultivated knowledge with UE to duplicate many observable functions, without CIG's insistence on reinventing the freaking wheel. Of course, this game is single player, so that removes a ton of headaches from the process. I shall keep an eye on this one, as I really look forward to seeing where this goes.

I just couldn't get into it. Venturing into my first world into a "city" and realizing it was just blocks representing skyscrapers with sprite markings with no place to land as I got out of my ship and walked on air absolutely destroyed my immersion. It suffers from the same problems other titles have had, but the mechanics and gameplay are often worse and the entire game just feels extremely empty. I hope that changes because I think this game has some potential, but no amount of "But One Guy Made It And It's Still Early Access!" can change the lack of fun factor in exploration thus far.
