Greg Joblove Due to the events of this movie, Gargamel was forced to somehow escape this universe. He was ultimately successful and went into hiding in a remote village on the Earth of that universe. Due to its lack of leadership, he took over, named it Gimelshtoomp after a word of the natives’ language, and started a family. For some reason, his children had the last name of the woman who would become his wife, a word he could only translate into his own language as “Doofenshmirtz”. Over a century later in this new dimension, after clashing many times with a top-secret spy network, Gargamel’s great-great-grandson, Heinz, eventually secretly found out about his extrauniversal origins and invented a device that could open a portal to his great-great-grandfather’s home dimension so he could go there and mix Gargamel’s and his goals, to become the most powerful man ever to take over his tri-state area. It was about Rango coming to terms with his own existence. He's a character that feels like he has no place in his world, so he makes up various roles he could take to give his life meaning. The one he latches onto is as the sheriff of the town, possibly because it fulfills him and makes him feel important. But as he discovers, none of it was about him. It was about the town, and perhaps it might even go as far to say that there is no reason to worry about your place when the people around you are the ones that matter. He returns to the town as the sheriff, but with a new perspective on his role in the story and he is better for it. It is some avant-garde existential shit for kids and goddamn it's a motherfucking masterpiece of animation.

5:33 You got your math wrong. At the beginning of the movie, Papa said he had 100 children, so that means there are 101 smurfs. 94 smurfs running through the woods plus 6 smurfs in our world is only 100 smurfs. There are 95 smurfs running through the woods.

So, I've always wondered, if someone walks through the forest where the smurfs live, because their village is invisible, would they be crushed to death or would something like magic make the person go around it or avoid it somehow????? Ugh, anyways, I was just wondering.

+theimprobableone For real?? I mean yeah it's not perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than the movie. Better pacing, better acting, better set design. Also Neil Patrick Harris' version of Count Olaf is less embarrassing and less sad than Jim Carrey's.

MasterCharlie, You're only the second person who has stated something positive. Message boards galore have mostly negative things to say ~ -Olaf just looks like Harris with a bigger nose. -Before reptile house it's boring as hell. -Sets are too cartoony/stylized. -CGI is terrible, especially Sunny's mouth. -Dialogue can be cringeworthy. -Mr. Poe is an asshole. -Warburton as Lemony Snicket is so random. Not bad, just odd choice. I yet have to finish the season before making judgment.... with the exception that Poe is an asshole. Movie counterpart was naive at times but was understanding when the plot needed it.

Exactly this! They made the mistake of translating the idiom literally, instead of trying to find an English equivalent. Though three inches actually seems close-ish to the Smurfs' size - three apples stacked on top of each other would be way taller, almost 1 foot!
