    Actually, there's no royal bloodline on Naboo, the monarch is elected. They have terms in office and can only be elected for two terms, so it's pretty much in no way a monarchy at all. The only difference is the Naboo have a tradition of electing teenage girls as Queen for some stupid reason, otherwise she's just a regular elected leader. When Padme's term ran out, she was made the Senator from Naboo by the Queen who came after her.

Out of the entire shit-storm that is the entire Prequel Trilogy (and holy Christ our savior, _WHAT_ a land of badly written dialogue & largely wooden performances that there are, to be sure), any of Episodes II oddly paced (as per always) unusually written & of course badly forced for one films' time frame, sure is among some of the weakest material that Mr. Lucas ever wrote for his entire filmography. One of the worst tropes in movie history - villain has one important job to do and delegates it to incompetent underlings to spend more time sitting in his office chair to brood sinisterly. Worst example: Season 6 of "Buffy". You are a literal god with just one purpose - find "the key". But hey, spend time sitting around in your lush house while minions with the IQ of a chicken keep not finding the key, and losing it once they found it.

    @Millsy3838 жыл бұрын

    I think Anakin's character was extremely well written and well portrayed by Hayden Christensen in AotC and RotS, let me tell you why. Anakin spent his whole childhood as a slave, working for others, not knowing life outside his slaverly, until one day, out of the blue along comes a jedi who tells him he is the "chosen one", and it is his destiny to fullfill some long ancient prophecy which he has never heard of. Suddenly, all this responsibility and expectations is shunned onto him whether he wanted it or not. Now in the process of everyone telling him he is too old, too emotional, he isnt this chosen one etc. etc. he is forced to leave the only person who has ever loved him or cared for him; his mother. Fast forward through his jedi training, he is constantly told he is of great importance, and will one day bring balance to the force, yet he is constantly treated like a child, an arrogant hooligan and is chastised by the jedi council. They want to control him to bring about their own ends. He invisions his mothers own death, who ultimatley dies in his arms, and when he dreams of losing the only other woman he has ever loved (Padme) he is desperate to stop it from happening. Can you blame him for his sudden fall from grace, when the only person who ever comes across as caring for him and listening to him is ultimately Palpatine? Weather or not Palpatine was feeding him lies, from Anakins view, he was the only person apart from Obi-Wan who treated him as an equal (albeit sometimes obi-wan was a bit of a dick towards him). Whenever I hear people complaining that Anakin was written as a whiny, arrogant character I always argue, "what do you expect"? He was a nobody, a child slave who was thrust into this life, with the weight of expectation of an entire galaxy placed on his shoulders. The prequal films perfectly illustrate Anakins early life, and his eventual fall to the dark side.

  • @redfan369

    @redfan369

    +Adam Marks Except his whininess is unjustified, because he gets pretty much everything he ever dreamed of as a child. Become a Jedi? Check. Visit strange and interesting places throughout the galaxy? Check. Have adventures? Check. What the hell does he have to be whiny about? Oh, Obi-Wan sometimes is overbearing and the Council chastise him for being an arrogant dick? Well, he is an arrogant dick. And his complaints about Obi-Wan are so exaggerated that it makes me want to roll my eyes. And he wasn't forced to leave his mother. He chose to. He could have stayed on Tatooine. He could have become a professional pod racer or something and earned enough money to free his mother. Instead, he chose to become a Jedi. Now, maybe he was too young to really make that choice and he had Qui-Gon and his mother pushing him, but he did make it. And from a writing perspective, shouldn't we sympathise with this character who will eventually turn dark? Anakin is utterly unsympathetic. He's creepy, whiny, arrogant, convinced he's always right and unpleasant. I was just cheering for him to die because I found him so repellant. Another failure is the relationship between him and Obi-Wan; it's all told, not shown. The films talk about how the relationship between them is close, almost like brothers, but we never see that. We just see an arrogant dick and the unfortunate man who's forced to teach him.

    +Adam Marks Hayden Christensen's portrayal of a selfish kid may have been accurate, but that's exactly why people hated it. No one wanted to see Darth Vader, the biggest badass in the galaxy, as a whiny brat. From the originals, we were led to believe that Anakin was a noble and respected warrior, but in the prequels he was the complete opposite. And in the end, Anakin isn't seduced by the dark side, he gets tricked into it.

    God, this movie is so much painfully missed potential. It has GOOD ideas bogged down by shitty writing and directing. The idea of a forbidden jedi romance could have worked wonders if Anakin and Padme didn't have the chemistry of two chairs stacked on top of each other. No, wait, the chemistry of a bad drawing of two chairs stacked on top of each other.

    Patrick Bever-Chritton Why couldn't Luke and Leia's parents have both been Jedis? A romance between two padawans would have been interesting and they would have had a valid reason for spending so much time together. Also, it would have provided a valid explanation for why they threw caution to the wind and continued a forbidden relationship. The female character would have been more likely to do that if she had been as young or younger than Anakin when they started a relationship. Padme was a strong and independent adult woman when they started their relationship, so her willingness to enter into an unsanctioned union was completely out of character.

  • @silverblade357

    @silverblade357

    This should have been the first movie. Anakin should have introduced as a man torn between the order and a normal life. Padme should have been an otherwise normal woman, but someone that made a connection that tempted him with love and passion. Palpatine should have made an early connection as a parental figure outside the order driving him to pursue what pleased him. This would have made his secret family more compelling and his turn to the dark side more suspenseful. Kinda sad that this is what we got.

    Claire Lally Luke and Leia were naturals due to having one proficient Jedi parent. Then there's canon characters like Galen Marek, who was born between two rogue Jedi and ripped capital ships out of the atmosphere with his mind. Padme should have been somebody more down to earth, not a princess or senator, but someone that would tempt the stoic apprentice to pursue passion despite it being forbidden.

    It's called receiving a war-time promotion. The republic didn't have a war for a long time and the jedi where the most skilled combatants they had, it's only natural to have them lead the armies. especially when such a large army just gets plopped into your lap, you might not have enough military leaders.

    The Jedi clearly don't understand what the word "balance" means. It doesn't mean eliminating one side, it means putting both sides on equal standing. The Jedi are currently the dominant side of the Force in the galaxy, so bringing balance would be either making them weaker, the Sith stronger, or some combination of the two.

    Just based on what I know about the religion the Jedi are based on I can tell that that's bunk. The Jedi are the balance, the Sith are the imbalance. This is balanced only in the sense that Fox news uses the word. Sure the writing here is crap, but you don't need to invent ways to make bad writing good.

  • @banazir8645

    @banazir8645

    @Eddie the Head So what you're saying is that the film, which is marketed primarily to Western audiences, uses "balance" in a way that most Westerners never use it and are unlikely to be familiar with, in a context where the ordinary, extremely common metaphorical meaning of "balance" (equality or parity between two opposing sides or options, e.g., a "balanced budget" or "balanced videogame factions"; not just "the sense Fox news uses the word" but the sense almost EVERY Westerner uses the word when discussing concepts rather than physical objects) would be more accurate to what actually happens than the Eastern meaning? Maybe, but if so, that just makes the writers idiots for using terms in ways where they're guaranteed to be misinterpreted by 95% of the target audience. You might as well have Obi Wan say that the Death Star is "terrific," and then expect people to know that he means "terrific" in the archaic sense where it means "big and terrifying."

  • @majilliscath9739

    Eddie the Head for more reference light and dark are two side of the same coin inder the theory of the "One Force" where there is no light normdark side but only decision on how you use your power. Two cases in the expanded universe where users of the dark and light used them in tandem one being Galen Marek (and his clones) and Revan. Revan and his followers we're actually from what I have seen a neo-je'daii (je'daii being the first organized order of force users that worshiped the idols of Ashla [Light] and Bogan [Dark] and Bendu [Balance] And the Jedi and Sith orders were formed during the schism of the Je'daii order that was started by egotistical Ashla followers that saw.no reason for Bogan. What they failed to realize is that by placing morals around power they caused imballance themselves and the subsequent great schism that followed. And instead of understanding Bogan they called it a path of evil. If you really look at the Jedi and Sith you will see that they both one thing, galactic peace though it differs info how that is achieved, a galactic democratic republic or a totaltarian Empire, and there are arguments for both sides, a republic will allow for free will which will also mean more crime but more open source for the exchange of ideas like we see in capitalism, competition leads to better products. With an Empire the fear of an iron fist deters crime and any criminals in league with sith are nothing more than pawns to be eliminated later as they are bottom feeders essentially in the eyes of the Sith along with really anyone not a sith, people become a commodity but free will is also encouraged under the ideas of Bogan, where no questions should be left unanswered which can of course lead to atrocities in the name of science as we saw in Nazi Germany. But more importantly under the sith code, the strongest survive and the new replaces the old, which means if left unmolested by outside influences each new leader.of the sith will.be stronger and the empire will strengthen as well. Proof of their ideal working outside of the rule of two is the Golden age of the sith when the Jedi exiles found the actual sith race and culture and were quickly adopted into through their mastery of the force that they had never seen before until then. They were quickly put into stations of high authority and when the time was right the sith king Hakragram Graush.

    +Michael Moen I have found that some people seem to think that CGI is some magic "press this button to make a monster" computer thing (including some movie executives, given the origins of the problems causing several special effects studios to go bankrupt recently). It's like they forget that people still have to handcraft the objects being rendered. Hell, quite a lot of CGI involves 3d scanning physical models anyway, and CGI can allow for far more complex movement for far cheaper (because doing cabless models requires that they be able to stand on their own and have enough space for all machinery, which limits the sorts of creature that can be done that way)

Don't get me wrong, she wouldn't really do anything wrong herself, but assuming that Naboo's news reporters are in any way similar to the ones on earth, they would blow this up to a massive scandal. She can't really marry Anakin, so it would have to be a forbidden affair, even if it isn't technically forbidden for her.

    I think the thing with the bring balance to the force was siding with the dark side. I mean think about it. There are tons of jedi in the prequels and like 2 siths. How else would he balance stuff? By evening out the odds. The jedi were just to stupid to realize that.

    "The prophecy of the Chosen One was a Jedi legend that foretold the coming of a being who would bring balance to the Force. In the decades before the Clone Wars, the Chosen One was born in the form of Anakin Skywalker, who was said to have been conceived by the midi-chlorians. Skywalker brought balance to the Force during the Battle of Endor when, having been redeemed from the dark side, he killed the Sith Lord Darth Sidious. *This act led to his own death, destroying the Sith and restoring balance*" starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Chosen_One

    +GoodwinGhost While I think +Teregrin Pook explained very well the prophecy as concocted by Lucas, Lucas (or whoever it was gave him the idea of the prophecy and the Force being out of balance) was an idiot for not looking up the definition of "balance" in a dictionary. The way the Star Wars movies end with all 2 of the Sith dying or being killed, you'd think that the word 'balance' means without opposition. That's some major Western thinking bull going on there, made even more offensive because Lucas depicts Jedi as a kind of space Buddhists, with the Zen and harmony and meditation, distancing themselves from emotions, etc. To miss or deliberately ignore the Yin Yang principle is a super rookie mistake. I am skeptical that 2 piddly Sith would have enough 'dark' inside to balance the 'light' how many dozens of Jedi, not even including the Padowan children. Plus, even if they were, as soon as those 2 Sith were dead someone or something just as evil would be brought into play or created, since Eastern philosophy doesn't believe in a vacuum of power, nor would the 'light' side fill in the void that used to be 'dark'. That's impossible and stupid to boot. With the death of Darth Maul, it left open the path of the Dark Side for a Jedi or one with the potential of a Jedi. So even though it took years for Anakin to turn into a Sith Lord, the path was there and he was taking steps toward that end - and if you believe in the hard side of Fate, even if Anakin wasn't a moody, whiny, hormone-driven prat, Fate would have kept tormenting him until he turned to the Dark eventually, with or without help from Palpatine. There's also the possibility of a person with the potential to be a Jedi, who had never been noticed by the Jedi or trained, to have a traumatic experience and the ability to use the Force just busting open like a dam, overwhelming the person so they are not capable of controlling their emotions and the Force, and thus becoming a 'dark' power to fill in the void. But the way Lucas writes it, bringing 'balance to the Force' is more like destroying the 'Dark' side so there's only 'Light' users in the entire galaxy. Yay? (Absolute power corrupts, absolutely.)

  • @vegetalss4

    @vegetalss4

    +Primalxbeast Because the light side is the force in balance, while the dark side is the force unbalanced. That is before Anakin fell to the dark side: 1000's of strong points in the force (approximately) in balance and more or less influential on the galaxy as a whole + around 2 strong points completely out of balance. After he fell: 2 strong points in the force in balance and 2 2 strong points completely out of balance and in charge of the galaxy as a whole. The latter isn't really more balanced than the former.

    The Jedi believe in bringing Justice to all, and the Sith believe in letting their passions and desires control their actions. One strives to mantain balance and the other strives to keep things in their own favor. The Jedi believe that as long as the Sith exist the Force can never be in true balance because the Sith use the force to enact tyranny and take whatever they want which directly contradicts the Jedi philosophy of harmony between all living things.

    Actually, there's a very reasonable explanation as to why Kamino was removed from the Jedi's archives. You see, back when Count Dooku was a Jedi (and just turning to Sith), he was ordered by Palpatine to kill Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas, so the Kaminoans could be bought out into installing the inhibitor chip without the Jedi knowing. After Sifo-Dyas was killed by the Pyke syndicate, Dooku removed Kamino from the Jedi's archives. The original plan was to send the clones to the Jedi after order 66 was in place, but because of Jango's carelessness, Obi-wan interrupted and Sidious had to improvise.

    +Jesse Jacob I'm pretty sure he's right. There are two sides to the Force, so it makes sense that "balance" is balance between the two sides. It was the Jedi who misinterpreted the prophecy to mean "destroy the Sith". But when you think about it, Vader did exactly as expected...you went from thousands of Jedi and two sith to two Jedi (Yoda and Ben) and two Sith. Light and Dark were balanced man for man. The question then becomes, what happened to the Force after the Emperor and Vader died?

    Stagetail No he didn't. Not with the prequels. He wanted 100% full control and had no one to tell him no or to help with with anything. He could have found someone if he wanted. He could have got Kasdan to write the screenplay and could have found a director who works better with actors but he didn't want to.
