5 years ago, I began a social experiment wherein I wanted to test people's reactions to originality and their willingness to watch the same format from a popular channel on someone not as popular. It struck a chord with some people and the KZread algorithm favored the video I uploaded. It was the first time I cared about tags, proper video title, description, etc. Doing that has allowed me to be thrust into a world where I've met such amazing people and been able to do such amazing things that I don't think I would've had the chance to do otherwise. That being said, I had a vision for the video. A vision I couldn't achieve. I had no way of capturing footage myself, my editing skills weren't what they are now and I had a lesser understanding of how to achieve the quality I wanted. I had to download the cutscenes off of KZread, a practice that I had to repeat for so many videos, but that meant I didn't have any in-game dialogue to make fun of. This is closer to my original visions, with jokes that I had never had a chance to make, jokes I can make now given the current time we live in. There's a polish to my performance, my writing, my sense of humor, my visual and audio quality... This is the standard I wanted from the beginning. The original video took me a week straight to make, with barely any breaks in between. Consider that I didn't have an Endslate, really edit my audio too much, or have any visual effects at the time. Seven days. This video, with all the elements that I recycle for these videos, took me 6 days. That's how much I've been able to optimize this process. A day shaven off may not seem like a big deal, but when you consider the jump in quality and care, I'd say it's something I can be proud of. Thank you all for these past 5 years and here's to many more of making fun of the games that we love, and sometimes hate, so much.

I personally never thought this game was that bad. It’s not a great one and definitely doesn’t reach the top of my favorite Sonic games but I do think it could be worse.

Charrii, your super long, overly-drawn depression sin actually moved me to tears writing this comment to just thank you for all the motivation you've given me to overcome my depression and help me learn how to actually make a change in myself. Bro, you're the best.

I just want to say that ever since I saw the depression/suicide talk, I've saved that place and have referred several friends here in addition to reinforcing the points you make. I've had friends say they cried and felt better knowing they weren't alone, and your points about Vector's failure have stayed in my mind as I help my friends. Thank you, Charriii.

I call bullshit on the hotline thing. There was a Quora thread where real people struggling with depression said that talking to some anonymous stranger on the phone to stop them from offing themselves wasn't exactly helpful in the long run. Basically, it's better if your friends and family are there, because no matter how benevolent or kind, that therapist in the chair is still an outsider.

ReFLex_ 101 something of note that Chariii didn’t mention, the more grief one has faced in there life (the more tragic the better) the more knowlage one will gain throughout there life, so for those who stand and fight, they will gain more knowledge during there lifetime, and as an example Altair in assassins creed is one of the people like this where the more grief he faced early in his life, the more knowledge he gained from both experience, and the Apple. Even after a year I keep coming back to this particular video. All the jokes are solid, and the criticisms of the game's quirks are all presented in a way that's hilarious to take in even on rewatches. Even more than that, the 5 minute segment talking about mental health and suicide was really important, even if it was unexpected of a parody video talking about Shadow the Hedgehog. Out of all the videos on this channel, I feel this is the magnum opus. And if not, it's definitely my favorite.

Likely due to the 16:9 aspect ratio. The cutscenes were originally made in 4:3, so certain characters and animations don't line up with the extra screen space. You can actually see this in the game, as certain UI elements are closer toghether than they should be.

Bro...you caught me in the feels man...damn. Just brought back a lot of memories of a very dark chapter in my past. I know the pain of loneliness, feeling unwanted, being betrayed, heartbroken and i actually considered just ending it all...good thing i managed to find my way out of that hole. Holy shit dude, I love you for that speech. You are so damn right and I'm thankful that you didn't hesitate to talk about such and important and serious topic in a seemingly silly video. Using Shadow's despair to show others that they can battle their own depression and disorders and that they aren't alone is incredible. And the amount of people thanking you for reminding (or showing) them that yes, they absolutely matter, only proves your point - barely anyone talks about what breaks so many of us from the inside, and some of us had to watch a commentary video about a fictional anthropomorphic hedgehog to get reminded that our lives are important. I too wasn't spared from suicidal and aggressive self-loathing thoughts and to have someone so passionately fight for others' happiness and well-being makes me so damn happy. I had to and still have to fight for myself all alone cause caring for mental well-being in my area is nonexistent but thanks to you, and all other kind souls in the comments, I feel less alone. Jaykiller The god Yeah and honestly it kinda feels like it shouldn’t be here, while I definitely think that depression is an important subject to talk about it should have its own video, it shouldn’t be in a game sins video where people come for the game sins, it also has a weird tone shift that feels too sudden to really make the moment as impactful as it should be since the majority of the video are jokes and thus it just makes this serious moment about a serious subject less meaningful and somewhat unintentionally funny with how sudden the tone changed here.

1:37 Shadow was originally supposed to say “Just what *the hell* was that all about?”, but it was later changed to “Just what was that all about?” in order for the game to better fit the E10+ rating, since it was originally going to be rated T. Therefore, due to this change being made late in development, as well as possibly due to many (if not all) of the CGI cutscenes already being made, Shadow’s lips still move to the original line. *DING*

Georgie A: It’s not really a swear word, but SEGA wanted to tone down some of the game’s other content too (such as changing the alien’s blood from red to green & editing the scene where Maria gets shot), not just the profanity. All of the stuff added together before they toned it down would’ve resulted with the game being rated T.

It's the "crosses the line twice" kinda thing. It ends up so dark and edgy that it becomes comical, like the offensive jokes in Madworld, or the same tonal issue as in DMC Devil May Cry.

It's alienist, I tell you! xD On a somewhat related note, it's kinda weird that everyone's just fine with the Wisps living on Earth and that it was never really addressed. Thank you Charriii for bringing attention to the consent of depression and mental illness, I myself have had thoughts of wondering if everyone would be happier if I just disappeared or was never born, but luckily I had an amazing school consoler who helped me talk about it and when my mom found out about my feelings we both talked and shed a few tears but I’m better, I mean I’m not totally fine but I’m doing a lot better and I just though “welp I’ll just live and have fun with my life while I’m on this plane of existence” what I’m trying to say is as long as you have someone who will listen to your problems or just seek help then things will get better. First of i want to mention even though this game doesn't get much love can we acknowledge that all the music is top-notch. As well as the voice acting from Jason Griffin - his line at 27:30 always get to me - he talks about him being created was a terrible idea. Second what Charrii5 says about depression always got to me. My heart breaks I've dealt with depression myself it's one of the worse things to face. Everyone please love your selves and take care suicide is never the answer. What more is my depression was at its worse in 2019. Hearing Chariii talking about suicide - his voice breaking and him talking about statistics got into my head. He made me seek out more help than I was getting. Take care everyone -Covid has really mess things up for a lot of people. Everyone take care . please do everything you can to help yourself and the people around you to get out of it. The grass is always greener on the other side.

Charriii is one of the greatest ppl ik of. He must've spent SO LONG researching all of the mental health phone numbers and must've worked SO HARD to create such an incredible script for the mental health part. I'm just...in awe Edit: I genuinely started crying, even tho the worst I've experienced is a bit of social anxiety, down to a stupid crush I had in yr 7. I no longer have a crush on him but the social anxiety has stayed a bit.

During my depression, content like this PREVENTED me from killing myself, and now you’re making a public speech about it and how to help someone with depression. Thank you.

Well... it depends. If it's the audience SEGA targeted this game towards, then probably not, but considering that audience doesn't exist anymore, then absolutely, yes. Because the people who are playing this game are very likely going to be people who have already played Call of Duty for most of their lives.

I feel like if he indicated it in the title, while yes it would have garnered a bit more attention, it would have also taken away a bit of the impact because you're expecting it. Without an indication for "something to look for" I feel it hits harder. I certainly wasn't expecting for him to suddenly say those things, and it genuinely made me cry, because I deal with those things as well. Regardless though, it was something so relatable in something you wouldn't expect, and that's amazing.

That bit about depression hit really hard, especially the part of "(...) you feel you're an arrogant asshole who has mess up in the past and is doomed to fail, (...) and you emotionally abuse yourself into thinking you could lose everyone or everything by having or doing something that makes you happy." I'm much better now, and have been doing my best to fight off those feelings, but I've struggled with those thoughts for most of my life at this point. It took me so long to finally give myself credit, to think and do things for myself, to recognize my mistakes help me grow, and let myself be happy just because I wanted to be happy. My therapist didn't help me more than any random person, the medicines I was prescribed flat out made me feel worse, and my parents and authority figures just didn't even try to understand or sympathize with me. I even tried to commit suicide with a self made poison, but puked it out before I could swallow. It was thanks to 4 great people I met online 7 years ago, just talking with them about random things, that I found a new, simple reason to keep living; to talk with them again. Kind of ironically, I haven't talked with them in a long time, and I don't even now if we'd be friends anymore with how much we've all changed, but I can't thank them enough for being nice to me and helping me want to try again, and I still want to keep living so I can try and make others as happy as they made me. They tried to understand me, they actively helped me cause they wanted to, and yet even now all I can I feel is that I guilt tripped them and abused their friendship, which isn't true, but that's what these feelings do to you; they make you feel like the people who love you and care about you don't love you, or that you're using them for selfish reasons and you're not worthy of them. It's a life long battle to stave off depression, and it's always going to find a way back into your life, but know that there's always a way out, even if you can't see it. Nothing lasts forever; not your happiness, not your sadness. You just have to keep persevering. You can do it. I believe in you, even as some random person in the internet who doesn't know you, cause if you won't, fuck knows I will. Don't be afraid to admit you need help, and getting the assistance you need, because everyone does, even if it's something as simple as talking to some friends or a professional, or getting prescription. Don't be afraid to get help because you afraid of being seen as "weak" or "different". Please, don't fall into that trap. One last thing; I'm not gonna tell you to do your best, because I know you already are.

After watching this GamingSins of "Shadow the Hedgehog" (well, most of it, I paused to write this comment), I can't tell you how deeply touched I am that you took the time out of the review to open up about depression and other mental illnesses. Oddly enough, even though I never played this game, it means even more to me that you said those things in a Sonic the Hedgehog game, this series literally saved my life. As a child, a toxic blend of bullying at school, problems at home, and undiagnosed autism tore me apart every day. I was strongly considering suicide when I was 10 years old. The one thing that kept me going was my Sonic Mega Collection on the GameCube. I kept telling myself "if you do this, you'll never get to see how the games end!". And then a few months later, I first found Sonic X, and times gradually got better, with me finding solace in the Sonic series the whole time. Now, almost 20 years later, I am still a die-hard Sonic fan and am doing wonderfully; I just began a new job, and got my Switch copy of Sonic Colors: Ultimate. :) And what you said about how you never know that you can literally save someone's life with just a few kind words, I can attest 110% that it's true. These characters kept me alive when I wanted it all to stop, I wish I could tell the creators and voice actors how much they have done for me without knowing it (I don't care what anyone says, I thought Jason Griffith did a good job with both Sonic and Shadow). And thank you, @Charriii5 for helping to shed light and chip away at the stigma surrounding mental illness. To anyone reading this, I want you to know I care about you. You matter.

27:45 Every time I see this part (and I don't really know, how many times I've seen this video), it makes me cry, because I know that I'm part of the people you're talking about. Not the suicide one, but, by sympthoms, I am suffering from depression and anxiety. And the hardest thing about it is to tell someone to take you to a specialist to make sure if you are or are not suffering from some mental illness. It's hard to even tell your family, parents, anyone, because you don't want to upset them or you think you'll be a burden. And listening to others, who are still telling you, that everything's okay is not easy as well. You can't be telling people that everything's okay even tho it's not. That's not how you help them. If you really wanna help, be there for them. Be there for them with open arms, an ear that will listen and a shoulder to cry on. As Chariii said, you don't have to like the person to help him. This is not about liking someone or about who is your friend and who's not. This is about helping people in need to stop those numbers from growing. Because those numbers are sad. So, try to help each other. Because after all, we are all humans. Thank you for reading this to the end and I hope you have a good day.

As someone who has had the thoughts cross his mind, himself, It’s comforting to know that I am not alone in this struggle with depression. It’s a thought we all have at some point; to think we are invincible, but with the death of my father 3 years ago, and my grandfather currently suffering from brain tumors that are going to kill him soon, I have learned that the cold, unfeeling scythe comes for us all in the end. The thoughts that go through one’s mind after a loss like that are sickening. It leaves a hole that never truly goes away. For me, it’s enough to know that I will see them again someday, free from the pain they had to go through in life, and we will have a blast together, walking down the Golden Streets on the other side of the Pearly Gates; but for some, the thoughts are too much to bear. For those of you who are going through tough times right now, know that you are not alone. There are many people out there willing to help you, whether you realize it or not; and you genuinely have a greater impact on people’s lives than you may realize.

27:30 My goodness. That must have been one of the longest (if not _the_ longest) sins I heard recorded on your videos. I may not have been suffering from depression, but this year particularly has been tough. I lost my bananas more than once and have given way to tears on several occasions. Plus, my back has been sore for almost two months. Talking to someone always helps. If someone has depression, then it's imperative for them to get necessary assistance. Again, I don't suffer through such thoughts or know anyone who does, but we all have something to give. Life is beautiful and precious. Don't feel that suicide is the answer at any point. You are certainly loved.

I know this video is old and I just wanted to rewatch it. I'm going through a lot right now and have been battling depression. And your speech actually helped me, Shadow is a prime example of depression. I always thought him and I were alike, but thank you for bringing that speech in.
