Everything Wrong With Moon Knight - Season 1

Ойын-сауық

Moon Knight was a show about a man within a man within a god... and maybe another man. The point is Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke starred in a Marvel show and we sinned the ENTIRE first season. Here's everything we found "wrong" with Moon Knight, Season 1!

    I don't think it was Jake that took the beatings, but was created from Steven's repressed memories of being beaten because Marc somehow made him forget. Steven is the one with the British accent, and as Marc said, Steven wasn't "supposed" to see that, meaning his memory loss was intended. So I guess Marc throwing those memories away possibly made Jake, a ruthless personality that was the polar opposite of Steven. One who had a good life and wouldn't hurt a fly, and the other that would turn around and go out of his way to ensure the fly was stepped on. If this is true, I'd like to also mention that I think Jake killed Marc's mother for having only the bad memories of her. This would also align with the comics where Steven and Jake are two opposite extremes of Marc. Steven is the heart of Marc and uses Marc's wealth from being a mercenary to help people as a business man and Jake is the messy side of Marc who uses Marc's skills from being a Mercenary to perform horrific acts that Steven and Marc would never.

    I legit did think Steven was the host and Marc emerged from him as a protector. I hadn't considered Steven would be Marc's escape, so for me it was actually a cool twist that made me reexamine the little I understood about DID. Also Tawaret took a heart from each personality present. If Marc hadn't freed Steven, she would have just weighed his heart. If he had freed both Steven and Marc, all three hearts would have to be weighed.

    Quick thing, Marc has Dissociative Identity Disorder. He didn't "create" Steven, Steven split off due to the trauma. Steven says he was created because they don't know that much about how DID works and thus he is reacting purely emotionally. Because Steven is essentially the safe area that Marc can go into to give the body and mind a break, he has stayed around for their whole life.

"Created" can imply that the host invented a new personality. DID is known as a trauma response, of course it is a defense mechanism. But the biggest part of it is protection and healing, it's giving the host a space where they don't have to exist in the moment of their trauma while also being able to interact with the world and survive

  • @jackiewagner3690

    @jackiewagner3690

    @@pap-fr @naecotsol3111 this is literally the field I am studying. DID is Dissociative Identity Disorder. It's an intense coping mechanism for trauma and that is the whole point of the dissociation. It creates a space where the trauma is lessened or didn't happen (see Steven not knowing about his mother's abuse) which is the dissociation. Dissociation is the brain distancing itself from reality, either completely or partially. Also, how dare you downplay all the systems that exist. They have a hard enough time not being stigmatised as mindless killers without you saying that they don't exist. And, seeing as you love looking at the phrase, it's dissociative IDENTITY disorder. It's not only dissociation, it's an interplay of the two and that's why it manifests in childhood while identity is not fixed. Do your own research, talk to the systems that are living their lives and talking about their experiences. But make sure you leave that dismissal of their existence behind.

    I don't know how much he knows about this subject (considering he calls Stephen and Jake "personalities" I'm going to guess not a whole lot) but Moon Knight is a DID system, and that explains a lot of the inconsistent mirror stuff/communication/control/awareness of what's happening between Marc and Stephen. Also, one thing that Moon Knight kinda got wrong (though they only really go into Stephen and Marc's interpretation of the situation) is that there isn't really an "original." Like even though Stephen is based on a character, he's not any less of a real person than Marc. They're both alters.

    @@johnymustacio So there's this real disorder called Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) that's caused by childhood trauma, that basically results in a fragmented consciousness. It's comparable to a bunch of different people (alters) in one body. This collection of alters in one body is called a system. Technically they are pieces of the same person but have their own perspectives and usually have amnesia between them (they don't always remember the things other alters have done while in control, only what they have done). Thought it's never mentioned by name in Moon Knight, it's made pretty clear for those who know about the disorder that that's what's happening in Moon Knight.

    @@cheyenneroberts4785 The host is not the original, but a role that describes the alter who is in control or "fronts" the most often. If a host gradually stops being in control as much or another alter starts being in control more, one alter can stop being the host and another can take on that role. Often because the host is in control the most, it's usually perceived to be the "real" person and all the other alters are extra or something else, but this just isn't how it works. The reason why there's no "original" is based in the theory of structural dissociation. Before a certain age, your identity is not exactly solid, and when DID develops, that solidification process gets interrupted and the elements that would gather into one core identity stay separate and drift further apart, developing alongside one another instead of as one cohesive sense of self. It's comparable to a bunch of ingredients that were supposed to go into a cake being kept separate. Or a bowl that's been shattered. Which ingredient or piece of the bowl is the "original"? It's honestly a very complex subject and I understand why a lot of people don't understand the full intricacies of it.

    The point of them having a chance for their scales to balance, is that the weights don't go one way or the other. What she meant by 'the scales don't balance', is that the hearts outweigh the feather. Since they keep going back and forth between being lighter than the feather and heavier than the feather, there's no clear outline upon whether or not the life they had lived was 'good'. (Also, no case in Egyptian mythology about a heart being lighter than a feather, so that might be why she's confused. There's been a case for balanced and heavy, but not for lighter than a feather.)

    Okay, we don't sin British people. The British accent was adorable (he sounds like Martin Freeman at times). And you didn't remove a sin for the mad scramble that is the way Steven runs. He manages to get away but you still wonder how. It's like there's muscle memory from Marc for speed and distance while sweet Steven is in a panic and just wants to escape. It's hilarious as well as defining the difference between them. You really are petty. Funny, but petty.

    Moon Knight definitely has its own unique style, much like the rest of phase 4. They’re not all meant to be blockbusters and that’s ok. I think it’s pretty clear that phase 4 marvel is for the die hard fans. I think Kevin Feige knew that after the whole infinity stone storyline wrapped up, the casual fans would jump off. Which is why we’re now getting lesser known heroes, like Moon Knight, coming to the screen along with more experimental directing choices. The MCU is almost 20 years old. There are people acting in the MCU who were born after the Iron Man movies. I think Marvel knows who their audience is. They’ve already achieved the greatest movie franchise of all time. Phase 4 is just icing on the cake. A little extra content for the die hards who still want their fill of Marvel. That is to say, they’re allowing themselves to take more risks because they know their remanning fan base is more loyal then the general public. It’s definitely hit or miss but I personally prefer risky over generic. Just my ranting thoughts though, please take them with a grain of pink Himalayan salt
