The true live-action Dragon Ball that Toriyama really wanted is one where Jackie Chan portrays Son Goku (he sees no one else except Chan for the role according to Toriyama), even Chan was on-board with that idea because he also loves both the story and character. The best opportunity for that to happen was to make Dragon Ball GT (1996 - 97) as a live-action series instead of an anime. Just so that Leonardo DiCaprio could also play the role of Trunks.

Ok so lemme tell you something, in the original show and manga, Goku is basically a retarded 10 year old who's been living in the woods for the past few years cause he went great ape and squished Gohan (grandpa gohan, not his kid gohan) He's just really stupid, and he meets Chi Chi when he goes to get the dragon ball that Chi Chi's dad, the Ox King has. Chi Chi tries to fight him, and chi chi is also 10 or so, and she loses. Then Goku taps on her vagina to see if she was a girl. Skip forward to when Goku is 18, and he enters the world martial arts tournament and fights her, not realizing its her, beats her in the match, then she tells him who she is, and then he's like, "oh yeah, you're a pretty lady and I promised to marry you at some point and then just ran off. Oh, and you love me? Cool. Let's get hitched." Then we skip to the beginning of DBZ and it turns out he has a kid now. But does not know the meaning of the word sex. So again, he's still kinda retarded. He got dropped on his head as a baby so it makes some sense, but still. Not exactly a good relationship model.

I deadass respect tf out of the fact that they actually researched the original Dragon Ball manga to point out the inconsistencies of this movie. I'm glad they pleased us Dragon Ball fans by doing this.

You don't suppose that with the recent death of Akira Toriyama, he'd be rolling around in his grave and clustering up his own version of the Kamehameha, knowing that _Dragonball: Evolution_ is still a thing in this world? Frankly, I'd say yes.

It wasn't the director it was the script writer, Ben Ramsay. Director James Wong stays silent on the matter. Nobody that worked this movie, writers, directors, producers and actors knew nothing about it. Fun fact: As of this post, Disney owns the rights to make a live action dragonball. They acquired it when disney bought 20 century fox in 2019. Don't worry, Disney is has no plans to make a dragonball film and are going to sit on the rights until expiration.

Actually, Goku was 16 when he defeated King Piccolo. If anything, he should look older in the manga. Not that this justifies this horrid shit stain of a movie in any regard, but yeah. Edit: to elaborate, Goku defeated King Piccolo on May 9th, Age 753, and was born sometime in Age 736. If he was born early in the year, he might have even been 17 by then. Also, it should be noted that while in the manga he was born in Age 736, "Bardock: Father of Goku" implies that he was born in Age 737 (he was a newborn when Planet Vegeta was destroyed), which would make him 15-16 by the defeat of Piccolo.

I've watched this so many times and realized something interesting. Instead of Goku, what if they made it to Gohan's story after Cell Saga. It makes sense: highschool life, ig his crush is Videl, idk how they would introduce Buu. idk Gohan just seems like that type of an awkward teenager, like in the actual anime.

They literally made everyone THE OPPOSITE of what they’re supposed to be in the anime. Goku never fantasized about ChiChi hell he never even gave her a second thought since his main love was food 🤣

Why every hollywood superhero movies should have "Uncle Ben" moments ? Gohan died when Goku was kid and Goku accidentaly killed him when he turned into Oozaru... and goku is a dummy badass person(but still genius at fighting) , not a educated simp person

The movie was 100 mins ( or 6000 sec) long and there were over 9000 mistakes and I completely agree with it. Zeno did a great job erasing the other 6 universes because one of them had this evolution goku

I didnt realize who any of those characters were except for bulma and piccolo, the rest all came as a shock as you said them aloud.

17:20, as someone who watched this movie but hasn’t engaged in the source material, there’s no doubt in my mind the source material is better because it would hard for it to be worse

6:09 He’s not talking about his grandfather, he’s talking about Roshi. He can sense his presence, just like he could sense his grandfather’s (probably because they both have a large chi, but that’s never explained).

The technical difficulties on the video were unfortunate, but nonetheless, how nice of CS to acquiesce the wishes of the DB fandom.

Bulma as we all know is a loud mouthed, blue haired rich kid who is the daughter of the richest man in the world and is seeking the Dragon Balls so she can wish for the perfect boyfriend, and ends up becoming a babysitter/big sister figure for a YOUNG Goku. But here she's just a discount Lara Croft

The way he says “Gohan” is a sin. Maybe the biggest sin.

This movie could have worked, if... Goku had no idea who he really was, and his grandpa wanted to keep that from him. To protect him from his savage past.. Then, having him go to school would have made sense, not showing us their training before hand, and when Goku gets into a fight, he shows off unique abilities that get unlocked because he was in a fight or flight scenario and his natural instincts kicked in. When grandpa dies, and he meets Bulma they can go to Master R. Island, Master R. knowing Grandpa Gohan can explain Goku's Ape origins and powers, the stuff Grandpa Gohan knew at least, and we could have went from there. Just saying, they could have at least saved that mistake had they gone that route.

I had NO IDEA how lucky I was to have forgotten that this movie existed, forgotten that I watched it forgotten everything about it until KZread recommended me this video. One look at the thumbnail its like painfully cringy memories have unlocked throughout my whole brain im just sitting chanting nooooo nooooooo NOOOOOO

19:25 this was made over 9 years ago so I'd understand if they say this since Super wasn't out. In DBS, Goku tries to fight Universe 6's assassin Hit, but dies trying. However, before he did, he shot a ki blast up into the air. Once it came back down, it hit goku which revived him.

It's like the only things they knew about the original Dragonball are these. 1. A dragon that comes from balls and grants you any wish 2. Goku is raised by Gohan 3. King piccolo 4. Goku can turn into a monkey 5. Bulma and Roshi 6. Ki 7. Goku meets a girl named chi chi

The director Ben Ramsey shouldn’t have done the movie if he never saw the anime before, but you know he messed up when even Akira Toriyama disliked the movie. Of course he wasn't super important but it would have been pretty cool to have him be there as someone who trained beside Goku's grandfather. Plus the whole not having a tail when he was at least first found. Oh and since when was Goku an incarnation of the Great Ape. Sure he could become the Great Ape (like every other saiyan with a tail) but that was just an ability passed down by his entire race.
