Before the Rise of Skywalker, I just assumed that Rey was super powerful in the Force because Kylo Ren was super powerful. In The Last Jedi, Snoke seems to imply that because the Dark Side of the force was so powerful, a powerful Light Side user would rise to challenge them. To me, this means that the two are equals. It makes the force feel more mystical. I miss when Rey’s parents were nobody. Now, Rey’s only powerful because her family is powerful. Everyone in Star Wars comes from one of two bloodlines, you’re either a Skywalker or a Palpatine.

While being magical does not preclude it from being logical, it also does not have to be realistically logical. The Force is what is commonly called a Soft Magic system. Basically, it means that the magic system is not given a lot of clear rules it has to stick to and can be used as the plot demands. See also: Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, and Narnia. On the other end of the spectrum you have Hard Magic systems which have both an internal and external sense of logic and often have strict rules defining them (and, in some cases, those rules can be broken but at great cost to the character doing the breaking). See: Wheel of Time, Full Metal Alchemist, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

at 5:43 Jeremy questions Poe "leaving his jacket behind", when you can clearly see Poe wasn't wearing the Jacket when the TIE fighter was shot down. (5:01), he took it off when he sat at the controls, so it wouldn't impede his movement. So if Poe was ejected from the TIE fighter, as Finn was.... yeah, the Jacket isn't magically coming with him and it makes total sense for Finn to find. Wierd thing to harp on, but hey, they started it.

Space ships in the Star Wars universe have artificial gravity and inertial dampening. All it would take for the "bombers" to drop their bombs the way they did, would be regular gravity plates around the bomb bay doors, to get the bombs moving in the desired direction. We already know this is happening by the way the pilot falls, and the way the remote control falls. Anything that fell out of those bomb bay doors would continue to follow their trajectory unless they were acted upon by some external force. 😊 ❤✌

CinemaSins: sins SW for having the traditional opening crawl. Also CinemaSins: sins Rogue One for *not* having the traditional crawl. People tend to forget just how much trauma Luke and his family have been through throughout their life. His characterisation in TLJ is completely understandable. On that note, I liked Rey a lot better in TLJ because she was given some development and allowed to be her own character, rather than just a female version of Luke Skywalker. In general, the sequel trilogy is a guilty pleasure for me, though I do think it would've worked better if it focused more on Kylo/Ben's redemption arc rather than Rey wanting to be a Jedi. I personally would've loved if she were more of a antiheroine.

So I ask what would be the inverse of that power? To use the force to pull something or oneself to something, right? It sounds a lot like “once upon a time, in a land far away.” which makes me wonder if this all happened in the universe or if this is just a story being told Prince’s Bride-esque 3. If this is real in universe, who is saying it happened a long time ago? Wouldn’t there eventually be a moment where it’s like “right now, in a galaxy far, far away”?

    1. "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" is just that.. the whole saga takes place far away from our galaxy, far into the past. 2. It does happen in our universe. The universe is a huge place with millions of galaxies and trillions of planets. And the distance is so vast that if you were to send a telescope so far into space and looked at earth, you'd be seeing the Earth from millions of years ago..I remember reading that so I could be wrong. 3. No one is really _saying_ it happened, it's _telling_ us for the sake of establishing. And I don't know if the whole "right now in a galaxy far, far away" would work because of the distance and time. For example.. the debris from the destruction of Alderaan could have traveled through space for so long that it eventually became the meteor that killed the dinosaurs.

@@habitsrabbit the ET aliens in Episode I make that connection as they would eventually land on Earth and one would be stranded here for a brief time.

When Jer-Bear refers to "The Raid II" I'm assuming he's misunderstanding that "The Raid: Redemption" is not a sequel considering there's a subtitle, which are typically only given to sequels. "The Raid: Redemption" is only called that in the west because there's already a film called "The Raid", it would be a copyright conflict to not change the title slightly.

The bombing at the start of Last Jedi is one of those things that everybody points at, but nobody seems to know what they're arguing about. Even if they weren't close enough to a planet to be in it's gravity well, I have to ask: do you really think that the designer of a space bomber isn't going to know how to build the ship so that the bombs launch in zero G? It's most likely spring loaded. Simple engineering tricks work wonders. But this is what a certain critic I used to follow called "tangible details." People are looking for a reason to explain why they aren't into a the movie, so they latch onto something that gets their attention. It may be a nonsensical thing, but it points to the fact that people are not getting into the movie, because if they were, they wouldn't be looking for a reason to complain. It's like when someone tries to tell a mechanic what they think is wrong with their car. 9 times out of 10, their idea of what's wrong is laughably absurd, but they do know one important fact: the car's not going anywhere.
