Everything to Know About the Midnight Sun Marathon | Best Marathons in Europe | Jet-Setting Runner

Looking to run the Midnight Sun Marathon? Great idea, the Midnight Sun Marathon is easily one of the best marathons in Europe.
Traveling above the Arctic Circle and running at midnight provides a unique race opportunity unlike any other race.
Here are some of my favorite recommendations for what to do in Norway while preparing for the race.
- Take a hike up the Sherpatrappen. This 1200 step staircase offers amazing views of the city and is easily accessible if you don't want to rent a car.
- Take a nice walk around the Prestvannet hiking area. This pond is home to a wide variety of birds and offers nice views of the surrounding mountains from the highest point in Tromso proper.
- Travel to Senja. The island of Senja can be reached by car or with the Best Arctic hop on/hop off bus. I did an overnight in the small fishing village of Mefjordvaer staying at Mefjord Brygge. I did some hiking in that area, heading out from the Knuten Trail Head along the Skoyteneset Trail.
- Go for a midnight Kayak. Aside from running, I also spent a night kayaking with Active Tromso. This family run business offers amazing kayaking trips that take place in a Fjord about 30 minutes from Tromso.

Hiya Sadie.Yes I have run the Marathon they do in tromso.I ran it in 2022.I agree wholeheartedly it is a truly fantastic race.Tromso itself is a lovely town,I stayed in a log cabin on the same side as the Chapel.I climbed the sherpa steps before I ran the Marathon. As for the marathon itself I found the last 6 miles or so quite hard as you are on the dual carriageway that near the airport, all in all a truly amazing experience that you might only do once in your life.Im running my 3rd Marathon in Norway which is 4hrs drive North of Bergen, which is called Joster Maraton in Vassenden on 6th July.Gonna be a very quiet marathon but the scenery is something else Sadie.Liked your video and hope to see more content from yourself.Oh and finally I don't think I'll be brave enough to jump in the Fjord from the floating sauna think,I'll stick to the indoor pool they have in Bergen. Take Care!!!🏃🏃🏃

I love the details! The half marathon sticks mainly to the highway, and I found it quite nice, but I can see how it would be tricky after you've hit the wall! I know this year construction forced them to change the routes up a bit so they don't go to the airport anymore. Best of luck on your marathon this year! Norway is such an incredible place to run

Heheh it's indeed great to have excuses to travel to Norway, and they have so many races happening almost the whole year round!
