Oh thank god I'm not the only one
the crazy thing about arundhati roy is that she said she doesn't go back and edit her writing she just writes once and it's done. she is indeed the god of small things!!
Kerela is a state, not a town. Ayemenem is a town, actually not even a town, a village really, where the book is set. (so sorry for being an annoying nitpicker but in my defence this is my favourite book + I am from India.) loved your review
Emma's recs are my absolute favorite
"I have more connection with my bread" I'm going to get this tattooed 🤣
I would just like to tell you that you inspired me to change my major to English :)

i LOVE how i get to learn about books i’ve never heard of from your channel :) sometimes i feel like booktubers talk about the same popular books, but you always talk about the most interesting books!
Master and Margarita blew me away completely.
I LOVED YOUR MINI REVIEW ON THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS!!! read it a few years back and now I want to revisit it bc of how beautifully and eloquently you spoke about it!!! 😭❤️ Can u do like a full blown review of your ultimate fave read for each month? You can make it into mini series here on your channel 🥺🥰
everyday i wake up and hope emma has posted another video cause that’s my favorite part of the day.

The God of Small Things is beautifully written. I'm adding Frankenstein in Baghdad and Letters to a Young Poet are on my TBR list. Thanks for sharing all of these. 😊💙
I just found your channel and have been binge watching your videos all afternoon. Did I just order three classics online because you've inspired me I need to read more of them? YES...so thanks for that ♡
I like how Emma's way of expression and words have changed through the reading and all these last videos.
God, I loved The Ocean at The End of The Lane!!! Neil Gaiman is one of my favorites
Thank so much for your honest book reviews . I haven't read The God Of Small Things before but definitely will now. Another definite is Frankenstein In Baghdad . Love all you videos Emmie!😊
Your upload frequency is astounding and utterly wonderful
was about to read and then i got a notification for this... ill read later
Your praises of Rilke inspired me to read Letters to a Young Poet and I *loved* it. I also finished Legendborn; the second half is much more engaging and moving, especially the articulations of being connected to one's ancestral past.
I watched evil eye the other day with my sister and just... my mind... blown 🤯 it's always so lovely to hear you, emma. I hope you always have wonderful days.
I recently read Remote Control and I enjoyed it, it's very typical Nnedi Okorafor. The textures feel so real because of how she writes and I loved that. Not my favourite of hers but still good. I loved The God of Small Things when I read it. Such a complex book. So many layers. I remember one of the lines that changed me was when Rachel was observing her aunt and she thought "she is living her life backwards" and that put a shiver in my spine. Great writing. Also interesting that you read a Lauren Beukes book, I am South African and I haven't read any of her work, this was a reminder to give her a try. Great wrap up.
I absolutely ADORED “Evil Eye”!!!!! I can’t believe it’s a movie, thank you for telling us, I’m going to watch it right now! ❤️❤️❤️
The ocean at the end of the lane I’d like my favourite book lol
the way her videos radiates comfort.
so excited to watch this after a rough day! Thanks for the content Emma!

I really enjoyed The Lonesome Bodybuilder, I wasn’t expecting the magical realism and it was a nice surprise
My dude you look fabulous! I’m so excited to drink the biggest cup of coffee and add everything to my TBR
Okay, The God of Small Things is going on my tbr. It’s sounds like something I would absolutely love! 🥰
its so incredibly relaxing just listening to your voice
My audible wishlist just keeps growing
i can’t explain why but i love your voice and the way you pronounce your words is so beautiful
'Remote Control' Super fun book! Happy Bookish Thursday Friends
your channel is the meaning of perfection! greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷🇧🇷
Congrats and well done to you on your reading for March please stay safe love from your number one Australia fan John and I had 3 favourite books Pickwick papers war and peace and les mis
Love your book recommendations and I read the God of small things when I was 16 I didn't understand what it was about now I read it again and man this novel is a piece of ART!!!!!
I've been on a marathon watching all your videos, and I love your channel so much! I love the way you talk about the books & you make them all sound so good so I'm adding them all to my TBR. I got Audible just to listen to Evil Eye after watching this, and no regrets! Since you listen to a lot of audiobooks, could you do a video recommending audiobooks specifically? Like books that are even better when listened to, Audible originals, etc.? Thanks for all your great videos, Emma! :D
Your recommendations are responsible for so much of my goodreads tbr. Not complaining though. My best book for March was either The Three Body Problem or the short story collection The Wind’s Twelve Quarters
i have just found your channel and when i tell you how much i LOVE your videos, you're so calm and realxing to watch, you seem like such a nice person, love you~~
I just finished Circe by Madeline Miller and even though my eyes are still dying because of the super small print, it definitely deserved 4 Stars ❤️ My favorite book this month was the first Murderbot novel, I really recommend the series to basically everyone

Omg yes I feel you on that small print lol! When I read Circe for the first time I had to go out and buy eye drops to get me through but honestly think it's worth the pain I loved it! I'm glad you enjoyed it too, Murderbot has been on my TBR for a while actually :)
Hi, Emma! I really love watching ur videos, it inspires me to read as well. Thank youu, heaps and heaps! Have a good dayyy
Hello Emmie ! The part on the Pickwick Papers with all this confusion with this 'old archaeological stone' which in my opionion is a true case of a Public Relations problem, and the way even Mr. Pickwick, so honest, proud, loyal, patriotic turned around as if nothing had happened made me laugh and laugh and laugh as any other read has. Just genius. I think this is a book to be read little by little. In parts, just as it was published. I have not finished it but it is so enjoyable, and real, and sad at times, and witty, just like life, And it really gets me immersed in England in those times. Thanks for mentioning it because it is rare to find reviews for The PIckwick papers and for me the first work of a classic author is so so important to know about and in those times it was such a great success.
Evil Eye is interesting!! Now I need to listen to that audiobook😻
I'm sure this wasn't the intention, but the Ocean at the end of the Lane just went to the top of my TBR list. Thanks for that review. I think I'll love it.

What did you think of it?
I just finished an Audible book so when I heard your review of Evil Eye I decided this would be my next listen. Thanks for your reviews!
I love your videos so much!!! I get so many great recommendations from you :))))
this week has been hard but this video really calmed me down
This is exactly why The God of Small Things is my favorite book of all time♡...
"Medea", Christa Wolff. Elevated me above the clouds. One of the best books ever.
I read 5 books in March and loved all of them except one which the more I think about, the more I detest haha (Olive by Emma Gannon). I think my favourite would have to be Priory of the Orange Tree, but honestly, March was an excellent reading month Also really interesting to hear your thoughts on Ocean at the End of the Lane! It's been ages since I've read it, but I remember really liking it. That being said, I was a big fan of American Gods and Good Omens, so maybe I just like his writing style more. And ugh, every time I watch a video of yours I'm 1) struck by how beautifully you describe things, and 2) heaping more and more books onto my tbr!!
My thriftbooks cart is going wild,,, you're making me broke lol
March fav: The Count of Montecristo, Girl made of stars and A monster calls. ❤❤
Hubbie and I had a good chuckle at your anorak chair confusion😄.
My favourite 5 star read of the month of March was The Smell of Other People’s Houses! A coming of age story which is heart warming.
I haven't been reading much bc school is hard and these videos give me motivation
I believe the word ”splenetic” in its modern meaning actually does derive from an illness. It’s one of the ”humours”, which connected various bodily elements with particular temperaments. Others are sanguine (referring to blood) and choleric (referring to the liver I think?)... I believe there was at least one more. Dangit, I should go research this 😅

I think your right! Im reading therese raquin by emile zola and there is an introduction that talks about his obsession with the humours and temperaments.
I love that you're doing "new words". I thought of doing that too but there's soooo many new words to me because I read mostly in english which is my second language so that'll become quite a project haha :))
your lamp is soo cute!

The Midnight Library was my favorite from March. My least favorite was Madame Bovary....Quarantine is the worst time to read that one...LOL I started reading Rilke so I could understand what you're talking about. Haha
I've been feeling like reading in Arabic more lately and I can't believe to read "Frankenstein in Bagdad" it's everything I like in a book from your description: Gothic lit, Arabic lit, Frankenstein, retelling ;-; what's more to ask
I read The God of Small Things a long time ago, so think I will reread it after hearing you talk about it.
My favourite book of this month was George Orwell ‘Down and out in Paris and London’ I would recommend this as the best book I’ve read this year (so far)!!💜 just a normally unseen side of Paris and London in around 1920s as Orwell write about his experience in poverty and homelessness (maybe it is seen but I’ve not read anything like it before)
my Favorite book of the month was The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruis Safon and least favorite was Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur!
I've just found your channel and am slowly working my way through all your vids and adding approx. 1.5million books to my to-read list... Love what you do here! I also loved that you learned the word anorak in this month's round of books. I feel like you'd definitely have known the word if you'd grown up in the UK - "bring an anorak" was such a phrase of childhood summer holidays etc. when it was almost guaranteed to rain at least once. I'm sure someone has already mentioned it, but over here, anorak is also a term for someone who has a bit of an obsessive interest in something... (usually something considered niche or "geeky" like train spotting) - not sure if you'd heard that usage? If not, another one for the list!
I was just watching your old vlogs😁💜
my favorite read of the month is "The song of achilles". SOOOOOO good!
Great list and introspection into what you've read. Im currently reading War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, The Gambler by Fyodor Dostoevsky and Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson. If you havent yet read the last two, i highly recommend them. Happy reading.
I loved this video! I'm Arabian and your opinion about Frankenstein in Baghdad made me excited to read it i will read it in Arabic. My favourite books in March : Forty rules of love by elif shefak it was amazing i loved it so much and i cried 🥺💜 Notes on a nervous planet by Matt haig, it's a nonfiction book about anxiety and it was very useful for me ❤️ I read Matilda by Rold Dauhl it was so sweet too🥰
thank you content queen 👑
You r honestly so lovely and u have inspired me I was thinking to take major in english and i am fully get excited to take now after watching your all books & english major related vdeo Thnk u 🥰
Have you read Never Let Me Go or The Remains of the Day? I think you’d really like it based off of the other books you like.
I'm looking forward to reading Good Omens and American Gods by Neil Gaiman. No spoilers please.
my favorite read of the month was The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating, it was a very wholesome nonfiction about chronic illness and snails (I promise the two actually fit together beautifully even though it sounds quite random, haha)

I read that 2 years ago and although it wasn’t a favorite of mine, I still think about it once in a while.
emma + bread = otp ❤️
Unfortunately I don’t get to read MUCH but during March ... I finished Emotional Female by Yumiko Kadota- which is an autobiography of her story of ab*se and burnout in the surgical training system in Australia. Really impactful for women in medicine but honestly anyone could read it and draw from her experiences. I started The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa. What I thought would be a simple sweet story about a man and his cat has so many more complex layers touching on human connection, grief, relationships and friendships (and I’m not even half way). 10/10 would recommend both! I’ve been watching for a while - love your videos Emma - I walk away from each one having learned something (and a new book on my TBR) 💛
My favorite March read was Tropical Night Falling by Argentinian writer Manuel Puig 💚 You should check out some Argentinian literature in the future, Emma :)
The ungirls is literally the plot of ghost in the shell 2: innocence. Right down to using real girls as sex doll robots. Excellent movie.
Emma have you read the kiterunner? Because if you have not yo have to! Or else...Ill reread it myself. BTW your book recs are always great.
This video made my day 🥺
Neil Gailman books really come alive in the audiobook/ full cast renditions, specific to the audiobooks as Gailman narrates most of them himself.
omg thank you!!! I have read the first half of Gaiman's American Gods and I had to stop because all I see is him trying to write the book and that is not what a reader should be experiencing while reading a book. It seemed a bit pretentious etc, and I loved his comics The Sandman. I thought there was something wrong with me not liking some of his works. But thank you, I feel less alone now. I felt understood. Lol
Please read Vita Nostra by Marina Dyachenko! It's a standalone novel translated from Russian that would definitely fit into the dark academia genre, which I know you love! It's very intense and almost frustrating but also mesmerizing. I would love to know your thoughts on it :)
I just finished a book called Davita’s Harp and it absolutely destroyed me. The protagonist has such a vivid inner world and she goes though so much. I might have felt so impacted because I am (like Davita) a Jewish girl with some experiences that are like hers. Important to note, should anyone choose to read it, that the author’s writing is based off a problematic time in the new york Jewish community in the 40s-60s. That was culturally a long time ago and Jewish communities have changed a lot since then.
Evil eye is a great movie! I didn’t know it was a book.
'The God of Small Things' is an amazing book. Also I'm from Kerala, the place where the book is set in❤️
Ok I feel like an awful person but I listened to evil eye and couldn’t stop laughing during that last scene 😂
I really want to read the Poetic edda! I've not read any Norse Mythology yet, probably should considering it's my heritage...😳 Just realised I read everybody elses mythology and stories but forgot to read my own 🙃
I didn’t like Gaimans book either! I feel like I’m the only one! I’m glad I’m not alone anymore! I found it so intentionally vague to maintain mystery- but sacrificing so much more. And then I wasn’t sure if it was supposed to be a metaphor for a monstrous act. Or how a child transcribes things- children’s imagination. I guess that’s the point to have to wonder and consider it’s all of those things. Yeah I agree with your pancake assessment.
Asafetida, we learned in pharmacy school, goes by the colloquial name of "devil's dung." Folks around here used to wear it around their necks in a small bag to ward of "haints" or evil spirits. Didn't know if you had come across that interesting little fact.
My favourite read this month was Cujo and my least favourite was In the Miso Soup. (Not bad, just read a lot of good books this month!) Edit: also totally agree with you about Ocean at the End of the Lane ! The writing felt... contrived? Kind of pretentious and as though he is going for these striking one-liners you would find on tumblr, like I remember reading a line something like “I wish I could live in books” and I was like, wow, that’s very original and never been done before.
if you enjoyed remote control, i highly recommend who fears death by nnedi okorafor! i find that her genius comes through even more in her longer works and that book is just an absolute masterpiece. i’d be curious to know your thoughts on it!
Great ☺
I also thought an anorak was a type of chair!! thats so strange hahaha
Thanks a bunch!Just as I was getting to like Vittoria🤣.Also there is a usage for the word anorak that describes a person obsessed with the facts and figures of their beloved hobby.I hope never to meet a splenetic anorak!!!
My favourite read this month was The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera and my least favourite perhaps was The Confession by Jessie Burton
emma's my favorite
Sooo I kind of kept this video open on a tab for three days so could finish it. I watched every oppoturnity I got and it was really worth it.
