San Jose downtown has always been kind of derelict even before Covid lockdowns closed a lot of businesses. Everyone lives in the surrounding suburbs.

That is true. What I have seen is a boom in restaurants that are close to the suburbs and a decline in traffic to the businesses that are within downtown. Due to work from home and other factors, lots of businesses within downtown has closed which is very sad to see

Thanks, I'm sure you like Donnie's screwing everything up and doing nothing. Also, why do some people think politicians control everything? Like corporations, gas prices, retail operations and the real estate industry? Oh right, I forgot! People who don't know how our government, or businesses work! They prefer to simply parrot lunatics who trigger anger for their ignorance!

How ironic that tech built up the Bay Area economy, yet destroyed retail with e-commerce. The pandemic, BS tech companies going under and working from home didn't help either. This is not uncommon in many cities in America now, as times change.

Yes, many employees now work from home in the bay area which causes less foot traffic in the downtown metropolitan areas. Because of this, the businesses within downtown get less business throughout the week to support their rent payment.

Corner of 4th St. Italian restaurant. The just updated it when I believe the city bought it. Food was sooooo good...,I miss it😢

lol, exactly. Too many KZreadrs walking around painting a gloom and doom picture. They do that to NYC too for god's sake. Also, this is Christmas Eve, so no wonder some of the stores are closed and the streets seem empty.

@@tommyls4357 Really, as they all shop online because its cheaper and they have limited social skills. Also, many of them are brainwashed by Donnie's lie, blame and deflect hysteria and hatred of the good life to be had in California. Home to the 5th largest economy in the world.

It was a Mexican restaurant last time I was there and saw it open.

Seems to be a weird trend with doomers trashing certain areas. Odd to watch really nice places get dumped on while middle of nowhere Idaho get pumped up like its made of gold. Whatever, as a future home buyer I kinda hope you doomers do beachfront properties next.

The facts are that dozens of retail spaces are closed in downtown San Jose. However areas in the suburbs are seeing a rise in demand for businesses.
