Finally decided to cover Shokogeki no ken I see. Yes I refer to this Isekai as a cooking story first and foremost. I love its chef time aspects as the story leans into it more in certain arcs for story or comedy. Its what stands out most in its LN and WN that I have experienced. Not saying Amanda or any character loses to the chef time moments; only its rare to see a story use cooking for more than just cooking. Its subtle but we see him use shadow clone basically but its not a sword so it gives us a way to see Shisho as he was before the death. Like gon using forgery methods to find a way to escape the phantom trope this series uses weird logic so well you do not always note it.

So happy that Sword Dad and Murder Kitten gets the recognition it deserves! It easily could have been just another bog-standard generic adaptation, but no, the studio took the already pretty good source material and really brought their A-game for it!

And, yet, it would have been even better if they had chosen to adapt the LN instead of the manga adaptation and its nonsensical detail changes... poor Amanda, she deserves better than being depicted as some weird creepy stalker and to have her body type changed to appeal to prepubescent brats :'(.

This is one of the VERY few stories that I feel the anime actually managed to be better than the book. Both were good but the sheer emotion put in each character for the anime really added that extra cheery on top.

Spoilers As some one who is on chapter 135 of the light novel it does do a good job of showing the novels details i also love geting a refresher a about how the story changed from beginning to middle . I know of three a rank adventures by my point in reading fran meets two first amanda the great mother and second jean dovy the annihilator.

asside for amanda ( god i really hate what they do to her is far better than what the manga did which was horrific but light novel amanda is far better)

So fun fact, The scene's where Amanda was "stalking" Fran wasn't in the Light Novel and was seemingly added in the manga which then came to the anime, Also, Amanda's look is mostly on point with it being slightly exagerated and her personality being slightly goofier than in LN.

The stalking part made me really hate her chatacter for all of the anime runtime, personally they should've not added it since it makes her really freaking unlikeable.

The toast run-in moment had me rolling in laughter. I half-expected Amanda to pull that with how many "coincidences" she had, but then to actually SEE that!

A little detail also is that when Amanda sees Fran for the first time, she was a little shocked, surprised, because she recognized Fran, even while we didn't know that at the moment

Fran is such an adorable character! A bit complex, too (vulnerable, diligent, loyal, and BAD ASS). I really enjoyed this anime. 👏👏 Glad to see someone else appreciated it as much as I did. 🙂👍

The video missed Fran's low-key stoic enthusiasm. Like when she first gets her guild card, when she says she killed the greater demon, when says drinks are on her. The Japanese VA nails it perfectly.

Loved how cheeky Fran is and how doting sword dad is.

I loved this show so much, definitely an A rank isekai in my books (S rank being for shows like Re:Zero, Jobless Reincarnation, and Konosuba). As a LN reader I was very pleased with the adaptation and the choice to tone down the mechanical crunch that was very heavy in the beginning of the series, as any more than this would have massively detracted from the story. Also, the bond between Teacher and Fran is the most adorable and wholesome thing ever. I just love "The Adventures of Sword Dad and Murder Kitten"!

24:59 and 24:53 coolest character pose from all of anime in years maybe even a decade. I love how her massive sword actually has mass and she's having to work with the momentum of the sword and her own superhuman physical power but normal tiny catgirl mass to fight in an expressive sword style. No stupid two handed overhead chop with the katana as the peak of swordsmanship.

22:29 I feel this scene needs additional shoutout. Her landing looks like EVERY anime FINISHER where character just stays in the pose or simply stands up and then attack's effects appear like a year later. But here? No. She just does smooth 180 and pushes on the attack. I'M LOVIN' IT

Out of curiosity where can you watch this anime?

This has to be one of the only series that i no life'd meaning i read the manga, LN, and watched the anime. Really enjoyed the journey of fran and her sword dad fucking around and finding out in the different places they go to

I'm a web novel reader, and the things that the people gave this show a chance love about it never stop and I can promise that this never goes in a weird direction with Fran.

Really happy you mentioned the music as a win in this anime, since it was done by the great Yasuharu Takanashi, from Fairy Tail to Killing Bites to this show, his scores are instantly recognizable

Yup. Novels were some of the best isekais out there, top two Japanese ones at least, along with Death Mage. A lot of misdirections and things that seem obvious in hindsight that you never notice. Also, a rare case of isekaied dude not being the protagonist, but a local girl equipping him is, and they have to start from the bottom, a lot of fights are won just because they called stronger fighters to help. And anime did it justice, as much as possible. Soichiro Miki never misses, and my biggest fear didn't happen, I was afraid they'll rush it and try to force floating laboratory arc into first season, but they knew when to stop and didn't overcompress.

Fran and Shisho are just amazing!

Reincarnated as a Sword is the anime that had the greatest impact on me last fall. I listened to all available light novels (thru 10 at the time) then went into the web novel and let me tell you this story gets better and better!!! There are currently 3 chapters being translated every three days and those are moments i look forward to the most among my many entertainments!!!

The teach student relationship is so wholesome. It has great action, magic systems, world building and comedy. I loved the series and glad it's got a second season announced. After watching the anime I bought the manga volumes.

@@solas-5176 maybe not direct contact but there is some sort of limit to how far apart they can be, since if there wasn’t Fran’s solo fight against the Trickster Spider wouldn’t have been nearly as perilous

@@swordsmancs I don't think the issue was distance there though. Iirc it was stated that the trap they got caught in forcibly unequips all your weapons, disabling the Skill Share.

I love this anime. Everything about it is done well and to a high standard but nothing is super over the top. I love how detailed it gets, I always enjoy a well thought out and described world its just so immersive. The comedy is great and uses so many anime tropes just to make a joke. The CGI is well used and blended so it doesn't stand out like in many other anime. The one thing that always draws my attention though and might be considered distracting is the lack of noses most of the time. Can't wait for season 2.

I found this series first once at the beginning of august 2022, and then just forgot about it until i saw it available one day like 1 month and 20 days later or something like that and since that i have read all the light novel volumes and translated web novel chapters thats out currently. Such an awesome series, started the light novel after episode 3 i think and its just been amazing. Mostly for me even trying with it was because of Fran and she is so damn cute aswell. Never thought it would be so interesting aswell but im happy it is. Also really excited for season 2 coming out at some point.

The light novels are amazing in their depth and I was quite happy that the anime did a good job bringing a lot of that out. I'm really excited and hopeful for a second season, it just keeps getting better. Easily the best new anime on my top 10.

This morning I read and greatly enjoyed reading the 1000th chapter of the Reincarnated as a Sword web novel! It is one of my favorite series ever I hope season 2 comes soon and is a double cour at least if not much more!!!

The isekai recently have been great. I hope you do Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill and give max 2 wins for each cooked meal.

I feel like one additional thing that deserves to be mentioned is the choreography. You did mention the fight animation was nice, but I'm talking about specific moves. As a sword-dueling amateur, this is something that I can easily recognize. Every character used proper moves and forms specifically regarding their weapon of choice and how it is used. The creator and animators clearly did their research on martial combat and the types of forms different weapons use. It's an underrated detail that works really well and makes fight scenes look that much better.

When I first read the manga I was instantly driven into it. I love cats, and this one was sowell drawn it made me want to read the story over and over again. Then they announced the anime. My first thought: "Please don't ruin it, PLEASE don't ruin it!" And - they nailed it for me. That kitten is sooo adorable!

I loved this anime. After seeing the trailer I gave the manga and LN's a read and they are amazing. I highly recommend them to any that enjoyed this anime.

I really loved this anime, hope we get more. I love the father daughter relationship they seem to have and the humor. And for the castlvania lovers out their, its like alucards sword familiar summon from SOTN had an anime spinoff

Small stoic black cat girl is the cutest little cinnamon bun that ever did slay goblins. The duality of being such a kawaii little thing and top tier badass just makes her so interesting as a character. And Sword Dad is best father figure in anime for a while.

You missed an extra win when Fran says “waku waku” in episode 4 or 5. I am of the opinion that this series is one of the best isekai out there and the studio gave it the adaptation it deserves.

Animation, music and story in this one were all way better than I expected. I agree it's not like the greatest anime ever or anything, but I enjoyed that MC actually has proper character and deep, complex personality and has a fitting personal goal instead of "save the world" or "defeat the maou-sama" snoozefest. So yeah, I enjoyed it and waiting if it gets continuation

9/10. Can't wait for season/series 2. This series is a refreshing break from the usual isekai anime and is fantastic in all aspects. As far as worldbuilding and lore drops go, it's almost on par with FMA. I don't see a lot of long-running plot threads, but it's only the first season so I'm not judging too harshly. Animation is excellent, music is excellent, overall art is excellent. Wholesome moments abound, and the writer and production staff really put in the legwork to make something great. I cannot give this series enough praise.

This season was amazing the next season of it can't come soon enough!

45:18 it was hinted at in the dungeon that the two black cat kids Amanda knew were Fran's parents, and the giveaway was that Fran's name was a merging of theirs (FR-aumare and Kin-AN). Then her parents went on their evolution journey after Fran was born, which implies that Amanda would have known her before they left.

I found it endlessly endearing how Fran was begging to learn "Zappy" magic, and when Teacher relented, she exclaims it in triumph.

This and Emanate of Shadow are what all series this year and probably beyond will be measured against. Such great writing that was animated to perfection, sure there is CGI but its rendered at the same quality as the animation in general no cut corners. Honestly my only complaint with the Reincarnated as a Sword is I really wish this was a real RGP game, if the game play is a strong as the author's lore foundation it would be soo much fun to play.

I have watched this show and simply said... I LOVE it !!! Great show for any age . Well worth the time to watch . Kept me engaged from the first episode , Saw that season 2 is in the works with an expected fall/winter 2023 release ... Fran and Teacher rocks !!

This also prooves that the isekai genre isn't really the problem, but the fact that they're trying to produce it in bulk and follows the rules "quantity over quality"... Ones like this who somehow got lucky by getting a proper dedicated animation team are the best kind 😂 I really hope this gets as much love as mushoku tensei and the season 1 of shield hero 😂

I could write a lot of things that I love about thid manga, LN and anime, like how Fran is adorable asf and acts more properly like a cat than most catgirls (not into purring mode the second they met the protagonist or somebody that treats them well), she will respext you if you respect her, but she will adore only those stronger than her and love his savior and master (in a proper way) But I will make this short and just say I am hyped for the second season. And I do hope they mske more from this anime because they have a LOT of material to work with. Its a series that has a good pace and doesnt make the MC instantly all mighty, he gains his powers and she works her ass out to be a proper wielder by the minute. One of the most underrated and non recognized duo. But in my opinion, one of the best

A lot of people really don't give a lot of credit to stories like these. Is it like one of the big anime of that year? Nah but that doesn't make anywhere close to a bad story. It has so much heart to it and you can feel the writers love and passion within it. It's one of those shows that is a shining diamond to inspire others on how to create their own fantasy world. It's something I feel is missing in a lot of fantasy shows at the minute. It's the small details that make a story stand out. I'm really looking forward to S2 and I hope it's just as well polished as S1.

season 2 got announced 1 month ago, thou no release date announced, so anticipate summer/fall 2024 at the earliest (that last bit is my speculation thou, so take it with a grain of salt)

I was actually really surprised by how much I liked this show. I watched it pretty much solely as filler until the next season of the other two reincarnated as X anime come out(slime and spider), but I found myself really enjoying the world and characters.

I was waiting for this episode of Everything Great! I loved this anime and love the fact that the legend himself is making an episode on it! Hope you are doing well!

Honestly, shot up to one of my favorite animes real quick, I even rewatched it a couple of times (I do that rarely with animes, only other ones have been Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Dragonball, JoJo's Part 4, all Overlord seasons, and Big O). It still uses RPG aspects which I have been growing bored of, but it didn't detract from the worldbuilding and character interactions which are phenomenal and the absolutely mindblowing visuals and animation. You can still tell that it's comparatively low budget, but man do they make it work

Definitely a severely under rated and under watched anime. I knew we were in for a great adaption when every single goblin in the horde ha a unique design. Also, a fun little detail is that al the mage adventures had funny hats

Glad you got to this one. It was a bit of a surprise and I hope they do another season. Always good to have an anime that treats slavery and slavers the right way - by smashing.

I have wanted this for SO long, this is actually the anime that got me into isakais in the first place.

Excellent work on this one. Reincarnated as a Sword definitely deserves more recognition. Hopefully it gets a season 2.

Apparently the season 2 is already announced! There should be plenty of fun moments in the next arcs. I'm hoping for a reasonable release schedule that let the anime out regularly but not so much that it becomes rushed.

Listening to Urahara Kisuke as a sentient sword was all this anime needed to make me like it. It did FAR more than that, though. Also, S2 has already been announced, it's great.

I loved this one from the very first Episode. Fran as a character is adorable yet compelling. Fran is a Kawaii Cinnamon Roll that must be Protecc'd but also a Badass Cinnamon Roll that Protecc's! This anime had be both laughing my ass off and also crying my eyes out. While that may say more about me than the anime, it shouldn't take away anything from the anime. Reincarnated as a Sword was one of my favourites of the season. So good, can't wait for more!

I like how quiet you have the bell sound. There are a few episodes of cinema sins I just can't watch because the pings are so loud and high pitched it hurts my ears to much. Automatic thumbs up for doing it smart.

I loved this anime way more than I expected I would. I think the best part for me was Fran was the real MC here, not Teacher, as the title would have implied. In most isekai, you get all the backstory from the person who travels to the other world frontloaded and you focus on that person and their overpowered journey. Here, Teacher becomes the plot device and we learn instead about Fran and her growth. The Father and Daughter relationship is refreshing. Also, Fran is Kawaii AF.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the world building and attention to detail they have in this anime! Like the need for supplies for a team entering a dungeon, her needing undergarments and there being a shop SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT, needing cloths AND armor, how skimpy cloths ACTUALLY work and aren't riddled with weak points, all the gamer nerd/mid-maxing and group tactics... I just LOVE how they fit it all in! Plus it's the first time in a long time, that the lore seems like it will actually be worth remembering and isn't there just to explain away a strangitude in the show. You can't tell who's going to be important JUST because they're drawn well, because even the background characters are drawn well! I also appreciate that the main characters don't know much about the world for legitimate reasons and being a young girl totally makes sense why those around her are being nice and explaining stuff to her. Like, she's a black cat kid on her own: she probably WAS enslaved, her parents probably ARE dead, the only reason she can be on her own is with that super cool looking sword and her own constant efforts to not be taken advantage of and LOTS of training. So I'll do what I can to keep her from becoming some noble pig's play thing! Even if all I can do is explain how the god's saw fit to shape this world, or give her a discount on underwear or basic living supplies like dishes.

I did not expect to like this anime as much as I did.

About the fire in a forest setting mention, now i have not watched every single anime ever released but from the ones i have watched, the one that brought it up in a way was the Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent. Reincarnated as a Sword was best anime of 2022 to me and that while 2022 gave me more than one gem to enjoy
