There's a really minor win here, but as someone who adores Mongol history I needed to say it. Mongolia didn't have a written language during Genghis' time, so they simply used Chinese for a long period of time. Kublai, who's Khan during the period Ghost of Tsushima takes place, had a Mongolian written language be created, trying to blend the Mongolian culture with Chinese in hopes it will last longer. Unfortunately most people didn't like it, finding it difficult and not detailed enough to convey everything they need, so it was pretty much forgotten and they continued use Chinese. Jin being able to read most things the Mongols write therefore makes perfect sense, since in all likelihood most of them would've avoided using Mongolian at all costs

Exactly! I love the Lethal mode, because it means that if you survive a fight it's because you didn't take any hits, and not because as the player character you are able to take loads of blows/bullets (as in other games). And what's really great is that the ENEMIES also go down in 1-2 hits once their block strength is broken, so it's (as you say) fair and realistic!

Felt more in line with the themes in game and with Jin’s character. PS. I love that the winds are his father and the yellow birds are his mother. Subtle and out of sight like their son The Ghost. They convey their intent to fight to the death, as they won't need to put away their swords later. I always liked the other ending instead. Not killing Shimura and fully embracing the ghost to him felt I think more climatic than killing him. It kind of reminded me to the ending of The Dark Knight where he chooses to be the villain to save his home. Killing him is tragic but leaving him alive and then knowing they can’t be the same as they once and must be enemies due to their own senses of honor feels more in line to me.

What people are forgetting to mention about this game is how the gameplay evolved with the story. At the beginning you only have your sword and fighting skills. When you're still a Samurai. When you've unlocked all the tools and tricks of the assassin/rogue/stalker, you've gotten to the point in the story where you're more the Ghost. Most games have a fairly arbitrary reason for why your character becomes stronger and can use more abilities and tools over timed. But in GoT you have access to more abilities and tools as Jin realizes he needs to "cheat" in order to win in combat (and not have hostages executed).

for anybody wondering what the instrument is at 4:12 , it is called a biwa, used often by japanese storytellers (also used by those in mythic tales). specifically, the closest thing i can find to that exact score is the beginning of the tale Nasu no Yoichi, a story of a samurai who in battle, and in rocking water, hit a small fan held off the ship of an enemy group with a single shot.

I noticed that when the game uses wipes, you give a win about it reminding you of Star Wars. I just wanted to mentions that I think the game is actually giving an homage to the filmmaker Kurosawa, who often employed wipes and also made many movies about samurai (he was an incredibly popular filmmaker). George Lucas has also mentioned that he was heavily inspired by Kurosawa when making Star Wars so that's why it also uses wipes. Just wanted to mention this as I think it gives the game more respect and also is a cool tidbit about Star Wars. Keep up the good work!

Shimura is the mountain, serene and solid. And yet, passing time wears him down permanently. He needs rebirth, the virtue of Clan Sakai. Balance, the Mountain and Waterfall living together in harmony. If only that actually happened. Instead, because of pride and enmity, the waterfall dried up, and the mountain crumbled to the ground. I want to shout out how utterly fantastic the animation is in this game. Every tiny incidental action feels like it came right out of a movie, yet it never hampers the flow of gameplay and it all enriches the immersion into the game's world. The combat animations are a perfect example of this.

Anyone else notice that the fully upgraded samurai clan armor+unrefined samurai clan helmet is what his armor looked like before it became the broken armor
