This kind of tuna fishing used to take place off the coast of San Diego California when I was a kid, but the tuna were much larger.

@@atmosphericraven It was back in the 1950s. so they had to use the materials available then. There was a tuna processing factory there in San Diego. What a smell.

I am a fisherman. I have been for more than 50 years. I love fishing. I don't find this video "amazing." I find it repulsive, a rape of sea life. Fish farm instead of destroying our resources.

Utter rubbish. Russian factory ships are repulsive. This is in the Third World getting tuna in season in their large shoals. When they've caught enough their wives will gut them & canned for their region. I've seen the Alaskan crab fishing & lobsters stuffing them into their holds. No different.

Actually this is a more sustainable way to fish, unlike other commercial fishing, which tow a big net behind the ship, and haul in tons of fishes and other sea lives in one big haul.

Reminds me of when i was a lad. My dad would take me fishing for these big yellow ducks and the woman who owned the boat would give me prizes for each duck. Teddy bears, goldfish etc. It was every year at the fair.

Me too. The last time I remember seeing this kind of fishing was in the 1950's. It was a tv presentation possibly by Bill Burrud called, I think, "Iron Men and Wooden Ships."

Ini teknik mancing cakalang untuk ikan cakalang di daerah timur Indonesia, nah mata pancing nya tumpul jadi ikan cuma nyangkut aja sebentar, pas di tarik ke belakang langsung lepas dari mata pancing nya. Begitulah yang saya tau 🙏🏼

Between September and October time frame, my son and I used to go to Mexico Beach in FL and school of blue fish were migrating at that time and we used to do this. You can just get tired fishing from the beach because they were that size.

Ничего честного! Ловля на драча! На конце толстой лески крючки в виде "кошки", и грузик, закидывают в косяк, и вытягивают не клюнувшую на наживку рыбу, а ту, которую зацепили за жабры, за спинку, за глаза, как попадётся. Варварство.

I remember as a child about 10 yrs old back in the early 1950's I saw a short film of line fishing for Tuna, very similar to this footage and was totally captivated at those men's skills.

Gasp!! I saw that same film at the same age in the 1950's and was captivated as well. The fisherman were just reeling in the tuna like it was nothing. That memory is what attracted me to this video.

I have watched this video over and over again and I still couldn't figure out how they caught the fish. The fisherman didn't put any lure on their lines and they didn't have to unhook the fish, very puzzling.

its call a huge treble hook...they are snagging the fish...the fish are not biting at anything.

The fish are in a feeding frenzy where they will strike at anything. The guy in the yellow oilskins on the stern of the boat is throwing bait (chum) to keep the fish crazy trying to strike at anything shiny. Unfortunately for the fish, the shiny thing is usually just a hook without a barb, so the fish are hooked just long enough to jerk it aboard and then it slips off the hook.

That way of fishing is a lot better than hovering up everything in the sea and throwing back all the other fish that cannot be used,it does give the species a chance to reproduce therefore being sustainable which is a sensible approach if we want tuna to be on our plates in the future. These factory ships should be banned because of the damage they do to ensure sustainable fishing,short term gain but long term pain,will we ever learn but when money is concerned probably NOT.

Não limpa, isso vai pro gelo, fica ate 1 mes no gelo (dentro do barco) e dali para distribuição (atum em lata ou supermercado)
