    Interesting video! I'm often an early adopter for new technologies but haven't been tempted into the 3d printing world yet, but you've got me thinking about it here. It does look like this device marks the start of a genuine mass market option, which no doubt will bring a good chunk more people into the 3d printing world, but whilst I agree with your thoughts about these things being tools, I think we're a way away from people seeing enough benefits to have a go... for now!

    Well Stu at least you can print a new crane to hold the filament if the one that was supplied is not up to spec. Have never considered a 3D printer, but whilst watching this and then hearing for the first time what one costs it does seem interesting. I have over the last 12 months ordered online from Etsy about 5 things such a pipe and cable holders which I knew they printed 3D. Although not expensive each time it does add up as well as waiting for five days for it to be printed and shipped from somewhere. For 400 pounds you cant really go wrong.

    I am a big fan of anker and this printer is a great 3D printer. I cannot help to feel the review was more about trying to convince us to buy it than an objective view. The competitor without the multicolor AMS A1 version is almost twice as quick and has the same 3D world for downloading. They both have their pros and cons, and you make some good points.

  • @StusReviewsUK

    @StusReviewsUK

    8 ай бұрын

    I haven’t tried the AMS a1, so I wouldn’t know. This episode was coming from an angle of the Everyman, not a 3D printing enthusiast as such… the exact people I mostly reference when discussing how 3D printers have a rep as tinkerers toys. Ultimately this is the first printer that I feel changes the status quo here, and makes it accessible for the Everyman, and any selling - it does that itself. Also, I try to avoid too much comparison. After all, I’m reviewing this product, so I need to give it fair chance on its own merit, not measured against other things. Which is why I rarely mention competing products by name.

    Hello! Best Buy currently has this on sale for $300. For someone COMPLETELY new to 3D printing, and am interested in the prints themselves over absorbing myself into splicers, customization of the printer itself, and having to “guess” what an issue is when troubleshooting, how would you compare this say to the Bambu series of printers like the A1 mini? (The print surface is hardly an issue, looking to print DnD minis and tiles and the occasional around the house solution like a controller holder, backpack buckle replacement, phone stand etc). I feel that if I end up loving 3D printing to the point where I want to make it a hobby, I will end up buying a whole new level of printer so I’m not worried about “future proofing” for expanding the hobby. Thanks! Great video, I am happy to be around in a time where stuff like this is even accessible!

    So, you need an internet connection. And if Anker decides to not host the slicing software, presumably in a cloud, the printer becomes a boat anchor. Yes?

  • @smartsideoflife

    @smartsideoflife

    I am by no means a 3D printer expert. But I don't think you're right. Isn't there a slicing software, you can download to your computer to take full local control? Stu is showing this software for just a moment 1:17

  • @karmachameleon326

    @karmachameleon326

    8 ай бұрын

    In that scenario, you can always copy your gcode from Prusa or any other slicer to a USB stick, plug it in, and print it using the big button. But why would Anker do that in the first place? They’re trying to run a business here.

  • @karmachameleon326

    @karmachameleon326

    The slicing software is hosted in the cloud for their little marketplace app, but there is also a slicer that you install on your local machine. It needs a bit more work - I go back and forth between it and Prusa for the stuff that I’m doing - but it’s ok. The bad part is that it does require a login to their back-end servers. I’m definitely not a fan of that, and never will be. But again, if you want to avoid using their systems, you can, via USB stick.

    Looks nice enough but can you actually use it with a real slicer rather than the app based gimmick? Without that it's just hard to take it seriously. Also how easy is it to maintain? It's all very well trying to be the 'everyman' printer for every home, but what happens when the hotend gets a clog? Or the rods need greasing? Or whatever else? When average Joe buys their printer expecting years of trouble free shelf brackets, then 6 months down the line it starts playing up... are they gonna be able to fix it... or is it a paperweight? I still think I'd rather have a Bambu A1 than this at this price point, or spend a little more for the A1 with multi-colour or the P1P.

  • @StusReviewsUK

    @StusReviewsUK

    8 ай бұрын

    It’s all really modular for replacing the extruded or hotend - www.ankermake.com/uk/collections/all-accessories As for greasing rods… every man should know how to grease a rod 😂 And yes it does have the computer slicing software - I did show it briefly before I spoke about the app, but I was framing this review from the ease of access point of view rather than the more advance user looking at slicing software (plenty of advance use case reviews from more niche channels than mine out there - wanted to look at this at a different angle)

  • @bazh6041

    @bazh6041

    8 ай бұрын

    @@StusReviewsUK eh, fair enough, that parts store does look good... they're really trying to duplicate the Bambu extremely smooth user experience (not a bad thing at all!!) I'm still not sure 3D printers are, or will ever be, a mass consumer item... just a bit to much of a bulky high maintenance (even this or the Bambus) proposition for everyday folk who may only think of something to print a couple or times a month. Don't get me wrong, I think plenty of techy people will have them, but it'll be like having a A3 photo printer - a niche not an essential. I see a more likely future for 3D printers being something akin to the ParcelShop system that has sprung up now where every cornershop/Coop/etc can send your parcels for you. In the future all those type of shops will have a 3DP sitting in a corner, which they will maintain, top up filament for, etc, then when you want your shelf bracket you'll just go on the 'object app', select your item, select your nearest print shop and pay, and it'll give you a time at which it'll be ready for collection.
