    I reset my PC last week and installed my applications using winget. It’s awesome to see Microsoft going the package manager way. It’s still in the early phase and I’m excited for its future.

    Would love to use this more but right now there are a bunch of custom apps that don't exist in the repo. I've been finding more stuff in chocolatey, but it's been annoying that certain apps like vc redist package aren't updated because the app owner is some random dude that has been offline for years. So would be interesting to see how to build your own repo for winget, put in a custom app and how you deploy an app using a custom repo. Would the custom repo be public or could you limit access? Could you give access to other tenants users? How would you implement customization like entering a license key? Maybe i expect too much, but I'd love to see some more deep dive videos :)

    All great questions Thomas! The WinGet public repo is curated / controlled by Microsoft so the upload process for apps is cool. I know you can add additional repos…not sure about 100% private ones because I haven’t gone down that path yet…I’ll look into it

    "Shows what is already installed no matter where it came from" 🤯🤯🤯 Thats hard to believe! I am sure there are limitations. Who makes and maintains the Winget/chocolatey database? Can we add to the public repo? Can we maintain a private database or are we then just talking msi packages

    Isn't the entire point of Winget to NOT have to deal with a UI?

  • @AzureAcademy

    @AzureAcademy

    11 ай бұрын

    No I do t think it’s the whole point. Even chocolatey has a gui is you want to use it. I think the point of WinGet it to accelerate the installation and update of apps…which you can do from a script or GUI
