    Tingle’s balloon trip of love is a really weird point and click adventure that adds a dating sim mechanic halfway through. Really charming! Does get kinda boring in some parts like most adventure games though.

    @@zacharynovak2180 I agree, while I found Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland consistently boring, but I played a bunch of Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love and had a decent time. However perhaps adventure games aren't my thing because I eventually got bored playing it as well so I ended up watching Vinesauce's playthrough in the background while I did other things. That was fun, especially cause Vinny voices the characters so you don't have to have your eyes glued to the screen.

    @@zandernewson9933 I don’t think it’s that deep. Japan is a small pretty homogeneous island, they have different problems to tackle than a lot of western countries, so they have different priorities. For instance the cost to make electronics is probably pretty decent. Proximity and relations to china means that they could put in a lot infrastructure for that sort of thing, we’re not getting electric toilets here in the UK anytime soon for instance. When you’re not focused on the same things as a culture you will have investments into other areas and there are probably a bunch of amenities that make your life here in the west a worthwhile sacrifice for satellite gaming

That said, I have no reason to believe that this is different in Japanese copyright law as it's a universal fact that copyright law primarily came to exist for the benefit corporations more than anyone else. • @Dong_Harvey

    @Dong_Harvey

    The SatellaView cartridge had a separate mini cartridge that acted like a microSD would on modern Flash Carts. The broadcasted ROM, of which there where many broadcasts over single game like Zelda, would be saved on thee mini cartridges. These cartridges were expensive, other than the few that came with the SatellaView, so most where just overwritten with the next broadcast. Except for a few rich fans who actually kept their downloaded copies.. To be archived by yet more dedicated fans later..

    One has to understand: gamers are the worst. The absolute worst. In the 90s and early 2000s, gamers spent most of their time trying to make sure videogames made them look, in their mind, “tough” and “cool”. Games like earthbound, Kirby and Tingle did not pass the muster as being “tough enough” to feed their need to affirmation of their manliness.

    I'm always astonished how most of the americans live in a bubble and doesn't know that there are games which are called classics in Europe and Japan, but either only a handful knows them in the US or those getting unjustified called bad. For example *Terranigma* is such a beautiful game and has lots of fans in Europe! Despite its flaws in its leveling system it has one the most beautiful soundtracks, gorgeous graphics, such a rich world full of stuff to discover, a fun fighting system and a stunning story rivaling Chrono Trigger and FF6. But I've heard several people in the US calling "Illusion of Gaia" better since they grew up with it and that's kinda unfair just to see things through rose-colored glasses.

    Well, "Illusion of Gaia" is the same as 'Illusion of Time', the Quintet game released in different regions. Terranigma was the last Quintet game and not released in the NA region sadly, even though there was that English version because of the UK. But, its of course playable because of the internet and emulation.

    They’re VERY much so playable on original hardware. Either with a flash cart OR “reproduction” PCBs. I’ve produced hundreds of copies of ZAST over the years, with a number of different PCBs and ROM revisions.

    Hearing that Nintendo actually gauged the American audience whether they should localize Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland in America, and the majority of people actually said NO? Man, I'm so disappointed in my home country sometimes. Tingle has always been a hilarious enigma to me, and I would've loved to play these games as a kid.

    Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love is actually one of the best games I'd ever seen. I love the story for it a lot, and it's very unique. It's too bad it never got a NA release. I watched Vinny Vinesauce's videos for it. I recommend doing so if you don't plan on playing it. Although, I have to say, I never was interested in Tingle until I watched that series, and now I wish I had just played the game myself.

    I think Americans voted against a Tingle game because they weren't aware it was already made. Had they known Japan had this fully realized game completed, they might have been more open to playing it. It was also different times back then. The more niche games really flew under the radar for most people and there wasn't much demand for them.

    17:18 "The Frog for Whom the Bell Tolls was actually a game which has its engine adapted from an earlier entry into The Legend of Zelda series: Link's Awakening" Not true. Despite all reports in the west claiming so, there's no evidence Link's Awakening shares any code with this game. I think this would be an interesting topic for you guys to investigate.

    I wish Nintendo would rerelease Ancient Stone Tablets already, it's the most unique title from the Satellaview & was the sequel to ALTTP before ALBW. Ancient Stone Tablets really is one of the closest to canon game that allowed you to choose a gender, allowing you to play a female.
