For me, I like the Vista/Windows 7 startup sound. Maybe it's because it is the only startup sound on my Windows 10 (after checking it in the sound settings), but I like it for its gentle and pleasant tune and synth, like that if the Windows 95. The XP, while iconic and cool, is a little loud and bombastic (which can be startling if the speakers are cranked high). I prefer something that has a smoother and more welcoming vibe.

Amazing. Hearing the Windows 2000 (ME), XP and Vista sounds, I vividly recall the excitement I felt when I upgraded to each of them. Back then, installing a new OS felt much like getting your hands on shiny new tech. Those were some fun times.

Our Entire childhood 0:53 and 2:07😀❤ happy memories forever Personally I also liked Win Me 0:45 such an orchestral feeling

I knew several of these, and a few are nostalgic for me, but the best for its time was definitely Windows XP. I remember the first time I heard all those grand, sweeping symphonic melodies, and just feeling wowed by the whole experience (it may have helped that this was my first computer of my own, and it had amazing speakers).

Windows XP has the best startup and shutdown sounds.

As a Windows user myself, I want to make a few corrections: 1. There were no startup or shutdown sounds before Windows 3.1 2. Windows 2000 used the same startup and shutdown sound as Windows ME. The startup sound for Windows 2000 shown here is the one used in the Beta. 3. All builds of Longhorn used XP sounds until Vista RTM. 4. Windows 8 and Windows 10 do not have their own startup sounds. You can enable a startup sound through the control panel. The sound that can be enabled is the Windows Vista/7 startup sound.

I used to love Microsoft 3.0 when I was a kid, it gave me so much memories. It will always be in my heart.😔💔❤️

I think everything boils down to childhood memories and ms windows covering a great portion of our nostalgic sentiment since it spans more than 35 years of home computing. There are fans of every single build, be it 3.1, 95 (especially me), XP... Of course the accesibility of an average user increased drastically over decades, so it is normal to have a higher number of XP fans compared to other editions. In my case, back in the days of Windows 3.1, that operating system were majorly available in computer labs, whereas Win95 made the first major entrance to average households. In my opinion, Windows 95 holds all my teenage memories (yes I am 42 at the moment), and no sound beats the sounds of 95.

Windows XP Startup and Shutdown Sound made me nostalgic. Childhood memories came flashing by.

I remember my family had these old computers and remembering the windows Vista when I was 6 years old or so playing bejeweled 2, purble place, cake mania and more on those and I'm 19 now and this brings back a lot of early memories and recently we had gotten rid of them when we were cleaning our house and we've not used those computers in years

I grew up with the Windows 95 sound (because that's what my elementary school's computers had) so that's my favorite, but man Windows XP is an EXTREMELY close 2nd. I see why that's a lot of people's favorite, but for me, the Win95 startup sound just screams childhood to me. Just reminds me of being a child and having a sense of wonder about the world.

I love the ones between 2001-2009 I miss them 😭😭😭

Clearly you're not remembering right, since it had no sound files in the OS. 3.0 came out on May 22, 1990, and .WAV files were created in 1991.

David Jose Ribeiro I just did it and it uses the Windows 7 startup sound. I knew windows 10 could have a startup sound configured but I knew it wasn’t the one heard in the video.

I will never forget Windows 7, the first operating system I've ever used in my life.

Aww Windows Me! I had almost forgotten that startup sound, but it brings back a flood of memories! For me, that's the most nostalgic. Also definitely a place in my heart for the Windows 95 shutdown, imo the best of the shutdowns.

A few mistakes: Windows versions from 1.01 to 3.0 didn't have a startup or shutdown sound. The WAV file format wasn't around until the early 1990s. The first version of Windows to include a startup sound was Windows 3.0 with Multimedia Extensions, released in 1991. Windows 2000 sounds are incorrect. The sounds you included for it were actually used in beta builds of 2000 from 1946 to 1969. No build of Windows Longhorn ever used or even included those sounds. It used XP sounds up to build 5840, when they were replaced with Vista RTM sounds. Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 did have a startup and shutdown sound, but both were hidden by default. When enabled, they were identical to the Windows Vista/7 sounds. In versions of Windows 10 from 1607 onwards, you could no longer change them without hacking the registry.

The Windows XP startup sound from 2001 was one of my favorite sounds from my childhood because I was a few moments away from playing one of my Nick Jr. or Blue's Clues CD Roms.

Brian Eno actually composed the Windows 95 startup sound; (from Wikipedia) In an interview with Joel Selvin in the San Francisco Chronicle he said- The idea came up at the time when I was completely bereft of ideas. I'd been working on my own music for a while and was quite lost, actually. And I really appreciated someone coming along and saying, "Here's a specific problem - solve it." The thing from the agency said, "We want a piece of music that is inspiring, universal, blah-blah, da-da-da, optimistic, futuristic, sentimental, emotional," this whole list of adjectives, and then at the bottom it said "and it must be 3+1⁄4 seconds long." I thought this was so funny and an amazing thought to actually try to make a little piece of music. It's like making a tiny little jewel." In fact, I made eighty-four pieces. I got completely into this world of tiny, tiny little pieces of music. I was so sensitive to microseconds at the end of this that it really broke a logjam in my own work. Then when I'd finished that and I went back to working with pieces that were like three minutes long, it seemed like oceans of time." Eno shed further light on the composition of the sound on the BBC Radio 4 show The Museum of Curiosity, admitting that he created it using a Macintosh computer, stating "I wrote it on a Mac. I've never used a PC in my life; I don't like them."

@@RWL2012 This video is 57% a joke! Some sounds are correct. But the rest of them is wrong! Here's why. Windows 1.0 and 3.0 didn't use sound. The Windows 2000 sounds used in the video actually come from Pre-Beta 3 builds. Windows 2000 RTM used Windows Me sounds. Windows Longhorn used Windows XP sounds. However, in RC builds, it used the Vista logon and logoff. Windows 8 and Windows 10 use Windows 7 sounds, however, they are disabled by default.

@@dziewiatka_official The windows 8 and 10 startup is burried in the files but it is unused so if you enable startup sounds you'll just hear the win 7 one

@@dziewiatka_official No, Windows ME used Windows 98 sounds fool.

The Windows 98 sound gives me this feeling of joy every time I hear it, not because I grew up with it (and believe me, I didn't lol) but because I built a Windows 98 PC to experience the time period. Other kids my age play Forknife in their pastime or talk about the latest RTX graphics card, I like building old 90's PCs. It's just something that interests me lol

I miss those old startup opening and closing bring back my memories

My first Windows ever was XP so those startup sounds mean a lot to me

Longhorn's chimes are absolutely amazing! I wonder why they don't reuse those for 7 again since I would have preferred those over the Vista ones.

@@DanielFlashAnimator Nope, it is real. Windows Longhorn is an actual build of Windows, though only released to some beta testers and was eventually leaked to the internet.

Windows 1x and 2x did not have startup or shutdown sounds. Not only that, but the startup/shutdown sound for these versions in the video is actually a pitched-up snippet of the Windows 95 startup sound.

I remember the first time I plug up my computer as a kind and heard that windows 95 jingle..... Nostalgia
