I believe that somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions that I feel when I listen to masterpieces like this song.

Rods record company laughed when he wanted to cover American classic songs. Rod said I grew up listening to these songs. He wound up doing them on his own and as they say, the rest is history.

Yeah, Rod said he had the idea back in the 80s. At the time, MTV had a strong foothold in music culture, and, in my opinion, I don't think it would've been the right time to do that type of music. He put out the first Great American Songbook album in 2002, so the timing was better then. Linda Ronstadt went through a similar situation in the 70s when her record company was against her recording Mexican music (she finally released it in 1989).

It's nice to hear someone agree with me. It really bothers me the way something meant to be so lovely can be treated so crassly. Darn ego-driven world... Whatever happened to people's discerning taste?

+Peter Harris . Peter I have been a professional singer all my life, singing ONLY songs from The Great American Songbook(check my website at GlendaGrainger.com!)- and have always treated lyrics with the respect that is due to the composers who worked so diligently to create the mood and use correct verbiage. I guess I get on my soapbox when an interpretation is so contrary to everything the composer meant to convey.

Cole Porter's beautiful poignant romantic ballad, "Every Time We Say Goodbye". The only comments I can make in regards to rod stewart's performance, he nearly swallowed the microphone, & his hand movements were amateurish & ugly & not in cohesion with Cole Porter's beautiful music. I hope his goodbye to destroying beautiful romantic ballads is immediate. The star of the show was the tall beautiful saxophonist. This is from The great American song book. How the American public must be suffering listening to this, when they have such great stars with great musical talents such as Frank Sinatra, Eddie Fisher, Perry Como, Vic Damone, & Johnny Mathis. The American public have my profound sympathy, when they have to tolerate the horrible voice of rod stewart within the pages of the American songbook, in which he contaminated & destroyed great romantic ballads of great composers. I hope this is his final ģoodbye to destroying beautiful music with his terrible voice. For God's sake, your terrible voice decimated the beautiful poignant & romantic ballad, of Cole Porter'. You contaminated the pages of the American Songbook with your terrible voice, & now the book should be thrown on the fire & the ashes scattered on your lawn, & I believe the lawn will reject the ashes in disgust. Another contaminated page to be removed from the American songbook . Serious words of criticism by Peter E. Farrar. If he cannot afford a necktie, I will send him one.
