Great nugget! Garza will always have the first no-hitter, but it's always been interesting to consider what we do with 7-inning no hitters. I think Manfred called them 'notable accomplishments' or something like that. Either way, fun fact: Garza has the last Rays no-hitter, but in 2021, 5 Rays pitchers combined for a combined 'notable accomplishment'.

I love how people hate combined no hitters even though they are actually harder to pull off than regular ones. Out of around 320 no hitters thrown only 20 of them have been combined which means yes there are more perfect games than combined no hitters and to this day there hasn't been a combined perfect game. So out of 320 no hitters 24 of them have been perfect, 20 of them have been combined, 3 of them have occurred in the playoffs, 2 no hitters have been thrown that resulted in a loss making it the rarest no hitter. The combined no no shouldn't get the stigma it has because it is "easier" as it isnt as not only does your starter have to be on top but so does any relivers that you bring out and that can be very hard to do hence why there hasn't been a combined perfect game.
@thegamingsai1or635
Жыл бұрын
You are right that both starters and relievers have to be on top of their game to get a no hitter which makes a combined no hitter harder in that sense, but the biggest reason why most no hitters are individual is because coaches try to let their starter get the no hitter. Plus, there’s no reason to take a starter out when he’s doing really well.
@Josh-ut4wv
Жыл бұрын
@@thegamingsai1or635 yeah it is like that but pitchers today don't often go far past 100 pitches and they have structured themselves to that so they could be good but when they get near that amount they lose it.
@homerunproductions162
Жыл бұрын
Yeah there's a lot to say about bringing in 4 guys that are all on their game, but having a guy go thru the lineup 3 times (and the top of the order 4 times if it's not a perfect game) and being effective after fatigue sets in to still not allow anyone to get a hit, I still think that's the harder feat. The analytics show that teams are better off pulling a starter after 6 so that alone shows that combined no hitters should be easier to achieve.
@Josh-ut4wv

Fun facts about Garza's no-hitter with the Rays: Going into the sixth, it was a double no hitter, but the Rays finally got their first hit against Detroit. It was a grand slam.... Against Max Scherzer

@@riverresident4769Closest it's come is a Cubs/Reds game in 1917. Hippo Vaughn of the Cubs and Fred Toney of the Reds rach allowed no hits through 9 before Vaughn gave up a hit, and then a run in the 10th on an RBI single by Jim Thorpe (yes, the famous one from the Olympics.) Toney completed the no-hitter for a 1-0 Reds win.
2021 seems to be the season with the most no hitters pitched. Despite the Phil’s getting no hit twice in 2022. There was one in 2016 of the cubs no hitting the reds 16-0. Might be the the biggest score of a no hitter

Required comment from talking with him.
@thegamingsai1or635
@Josh-ut4wv
Жыл бұрын
@@thegamingsai1or635 yeah it is like that but pitchers today don't often go far past 100 pitches and they have structured themselves to that so they could be good but when they get near that amount they lose it.
