Kenny is definitively my number 1. He's absolutely hilarious with everything he says (if you understand him) and I love the running gag where he dies. But, the main thing is the heart he has. I love the relationship he has with his little sister, and I swear I nearly cried at the end The City Part Of Town episode, where it was revealed he spent all the money he made from working to buy his sister a doll. On August 10, 2008, 10 days before his 66th birthday, Hayes was found unresponsive in his home, just east of Memphis, as reported by the Shelby County, Tennessee Sheriff's Office. A Shelby County Sheriff's deputy and an ambulance from Rural Metro responded to his home after three family members found his body on the floor next to a still-operating treadmill. Hayes was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, where he was pronounced dead at 2:08 pm. You forgot to mention the hummle episode where Stan and His grandpa take down that one farting lady who was controlling everybody in the old folks home like some sort of Mafia boss, I personally think it's Grandpa Marsh's greatest moment when he beat her with bag full of hummles in the end of the episode and took over as the new boss, It was also the episode that had the best story arc for his character. Just wanted to point that out. I'm pretty sure it was episode 6 of season 21 or 22

I love how they developed PC principal into a character with more depth than a stereotype. But one thing you didn’t mention was that his other main personality trait is that he’s a stereotypical frat bro which usually aren’t PC in the real world. They make these 2 diametrically opposed traits work so well together in a way that isn’t annoying and still funny.

yeah I think any time you are writing multiple episodes with a character you will have to develop them into a more fleshed out character or you will kill the joke. South Park does a reverse Flanderization where characters begin as one note and then grow into something more fleshed out over time.

The reason I think Cartman is so well written is because he completely shatters my theory on what makes characters unlikeable. My theory is that what makes a character unlikeable isn’t only their terrible actions, but their ability to get away with them. For example, characters like Micah Bell from Red Dead Redemption, or Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter not only commit objectively evil actions, but they are consistently infuriating due to their constant avoidance of consequences or justice. Cartman, however, regularly commits horrible actions and is also rarely punished for them, yet he is still a very likable character. This just stumps me for some reason.

What an interesting thought. I also think what matters a lot is genre. RDR and Harry Potter are serious works (not comedies), so when evil characters do awful things to the characters we like, we feel annoyed and angry, because there are actual consequences within the fictional universe. On the other hand, South Park being the type of comedy it is, terrible things happen to all of the characters all the time and we're cool with it, because we know everything is going to snap back to normal by the end of the episode with no lasting harm done.

In my teenage and younger adult years, I found Mr. Stotch to be hilarious. I'm now 26 years old and I cannot comfortably watch an episode where he has a prominent role. Pip death wasn't really intentional
Kenny is definitely my favorite character! Especially seeing his backstory how horrible his parents are but still manages to be so kind to people and be the best brother ever to Karen!!! Also when everyone is grown up trying to find out how he died in one of the specials he blames his friends for Covid because instead of sticking together their friendship broke apart which shows how deeply he actually cares about his friends. Out of everyone I’m just drawn to him most! He’s someone I’d want to be friends with! Like just makes me want to hug him. He’s encountered death multiple times and he has to deal with the fact nobody ever remembers. He even literally told everyone in a mysterion episode and shot himself to prove that he’s telling the truth and not pretending. He spends his money from working on his sister and even tells her when they are in foster care that he’ll never leave and will always be there watching over her. Like I honestly get emotional over his whole story. His story is so tragic and he deserves better. That’s why he is my #1 character:)))

Butters got a huge upgrade in character status. I don't think he was ever Dogpoo level, but he started out to be a B or C nothing character and quickly rose to the ranks of high tier popularity after a few key episodes. I honestly don't know why they did it, but they made him matter. I guess they just wanted another interesting character to be able to shove into an A plot scenario besides the four golden boys. It's also a lot of fun when Cartman and Butters are kind of co-starring in the main plot, especially when they're on relatively the same wavelength of thought. I guess that could go for both if they're avidly working together or diverge in their alliance at some point.

18:01 I find it so funny how Kenny's siblings just appeared so late in the show. I had always been under the impression that he was an only child due to his reaction to his mom wanting a baby in Cartman Joins NAMBLA.
@NotoriousLightning

Kenny has siblings at least as far back as Chickenpox from season two. Being a big brother is very different from being a little brother, though, and I should know, being an only child myself. Maybe they asked him because of the different relationship dynamics, or maybe they just wanted to inform him and smoothe over any resentment by giving him the illusion that he had a say in it.

Damn, this man really dedicated himself to South Park. Please don't stop anytime soon, love these long form videos talking SP.
Jimbo is definitely my favorite character. He hilarious and caring, and half the time he’s talkin’ about hunting and guns hahahah. And him and Ned are veterans and Jimbo shows humor and care in most interactions with anyone shown of the show. I really wish he and Ned where shown more.
I forgot about Mephisto and as soon as you described him and his “affinity” I burst out laughing so hard I choked 😂

I kinda like Terrance and Philip in the small bits where they aren't being their usual selves. Like in the episode Canada on Strike, Terrance and Philip were the voice of reason against Steven Abootman.

There’s a lot of great characters but over time Kyle became my favorite because he tends to be the best written and the most “fleshed out” with the strongest conflicts. But objectively, Cartman is easily number one followed by either Butters or Randy 😂
Learning that Kanye doesn't even get the fish sticks joke in real life has just reaffirmed my will to live
This guy is the South Park channel, as much as he tries not to be.
The best part about these videos is the nostalgia that comes along with the moments you remind us of
Butters' parents only in the A-Tier? They're S-Tier all day! They have some of the best character dynamics in the show!

I feel like I’d agree a lot more with Randy’s placement if it wasn’t for the newest seasons. Since Tegridy Farms came up, he’s been at the front and center in every South Park episode and taking up a lot of well-deserved screen time for the main four boys and the rest of the kids. He still has a lot of enjoyable antics but his character is so overdone in a show of SO many characters that his screen time has become insufferable.

Kenny will always be my favorite character. The way they handle him is funny, shocking but so wholesome too.
I like how Pip has his own rank
48:31 The moments where Clyde starts crying always make me feel bad for him because that’s exactly the reaction a 9 year old would have to a terrifying situation. I may just be too empathetic though
6:23 as someone who has experienced a dead mother, and I blamed myself and lived with the guilt for years, this episode is hilarious and I love it deeply.

The episode with barbrady's sick dog destroyed me as I ruined myself to save my dog with no success..... just watching the clip again broke me in tears lol. The only part from south park I cant handle emotionally.
Every time my wife and I are out and about and the number 350 comes up on a bill, receipt or just in general we look at each other and just laugh.
“Uncle F*cker” might be the greatest song South Park has ever produced, so Terrence & Phillip would be much higher on my own list.

Cartmans struggle to not make fun of Cousin Kyle is the best scenes to me
I think it would be funny if they did another season 4 with sadam and satan because they would both be in heaven
You did my boy Pip dirty man. The Great Expectations episode is probably one of the most cozy, underrated episodes from the early seasons. He's definitely better than some of your C and B tier characters too.
Cartman, Randy, & Butters are leagues above everyone else imo. Jimmy’s a favourite of mine too but I wish we saw more of him.
Gerald having that secret side to his personality put him higher for me. Actually having a way to get out his stress from working in a crazy way. I mean, trolls we encounter on the internet, while we will imagine them as discord mod bods, are just regular people.
What a great list! Thanks for the effort!
Every single time I see Butters take the shuriken to the eye I can't stop chuckling.
Randy and Tegrity Farms is sensational. Don't ever let Randy lose it. It was perfect and one of my favorite seasons is based on it. Cartman is #1, but Randy is right next to him with nobody in site.
I loved Ms. Crabtree for how accurate she was to my experiences with bus drivers. I respect your opinion for uplifting my own, though!
Sadam has the whole Canadian thing because he introduced in Terrence and Phillips Not Without My Anus episode where portrayed as a Canadian actor playing Saddam but Trey and Matt just decided to keep him that way.
I think Wendy should get a more prominent role in the stories. She’s like Kyle but morally more mature (if that makes sense)

I like to think Skeeter just has this hilarious ability to be extremely educated on how things work, even with how Pandas live and eat, out of pure, aggressive territoriality alone.
6:31 at least he points the middle finger up instead of down, showing that he does believe she went to heaven.
