bad moon rising is so slept on! one of my all time favs, i love the cold and nostalgic atmosphere it gives me its so haunting

There's no skip over tracks on Bad Moon Rising (CD 12 track version). Best fall album.

I completely agree with what you said about "Disappearer". I've had that song on replay since I first discovered it. It is one of THE songs ever and I think that the video is incredible too

Correct: Sonic Nurse is one of the strongest of all their works. Wrong: NYC Ghosts + Flowers is an absolute masterpiece, and for those of us who loved this band since SST days it's the return to form which we had been hoping for since Goo.

Evol, their first masterpiece imo. From then on only banging greatness.. I too had a hard time not getting into Confusion Is Sex/Kill Your Idols and Bad Moon Rising..will keep trying them. Also their latter 6 albums. Goo sucha brilliant album. Indeed very listenable and polished yet unique SY flavours..

confusion is absolute S tier.

My favorite Sonic Youth album is the one I'm listening to at the moment. It changes all the time. My love for this band and what they meant and mean to me can't be expressed in mere words. They taught and exposed me to so much over the years that I consider them teachers. The intense, strange and beautiful worlds and galaxies they created with their music and art is incredible and breathtaking. Why are ppl so negative about the absolutely brilliant NYC Ghosts and Flowers?? That record is a whole mood and so intoxicating and mysterious and strange. Plus the William S Burroughs painting is the perfect cover for that amazing album.j

100% about NYCG&F. They were in a highly jammy and experimental phase. Totally works. Small Flowers Crack Concrete is brilliant

I think murray street is super underrated

For me they should be ranked in phases: A.Debut (trying to get a sound) : Confusion is sex and the other more rare before (Sonic Youth) B.Constructionnist phase (being more and more structured from album to album) : Bad Moon, Evol, Sister, Daydream C.Peak phase ( doing what they do best ) : Goo, Dirty, Experimental D.Deconstructionnist phase (being purposely less and less structured from album to album): Washing, Thousands, Ghost (Ghost having strangely a vibe similar to Bad Moon... the circle has closed) E.Tail of the Hurricane : In the last four albums, they start to repeat themselves and get less and less creativity... still with some highlight of what they do best. I would rank C first and B/C second and only bother with A/E when i'm bored and need something else

I am absolute massive fan of Sonic Youth, their in my top 10 favorite artists of all time. I pretty much love most of their material, nothing else sounds like them. Anyway, pretty good video. Sonic Nurse is my favorite of all their albums. A rocking record that has strong songs from start to finish. Fantastic!

With a band like Sonic Youth is hard to say what is their best albums because each album is just a moment in time for them. But here are my top 4 everything else is just in the mix for me. Experimental Jetset Trash and No star Washing Machine New York City Ghost and Flowers A thousand Leaves

I don't know why but I just don't get on with Daydream Nation. That is not trying to be cool or contrary, and I have revisited it a number of times to 'get it', but it has never grabbed me in the same way as most of their other albums. Evol, Sister and NYC Ghosts and Flowers are my top 3.

There very poor audio fidelity of Confusion ruins it for me. It is distracting, and stands out from all other Sonic Youth releases with such poor sound quality. Rather Ripped is their best since Dirty for me. Pink Steam is one of my top favorite songs of all.

Sonic nurse is literally my favorite album of all time. All the songs sound so beautiful and stones is my favorite song ever. So yes, there is more people that hold that album on high.

Murray Street is unlistenable. Doesn't even make D tier and can take Sonic Nurse with it. But, that's like just my opinion man.

As an entire album... It's probably Washing Machine, Sister, Dirty, Goo, Daydream, Evol, Jetset, bleh. But, as far as individual songs, that is far more evenly spread. For example, Starfield Road is vastly underrated. (All this is totally my opinion. Arguing about musical taste is futile. We like what we like.)
