The cross guard was used successively by Archie Moore and the reverse cross guard by Gene Fullman. Many old school boxers use these guards to great effect to muscle and wear down taller opponents. The way you showed it at the start was used magnificently by Azumah Nelson against Jim Corrigan.

Very true. When I hear "reverse cross guard," I automatically think of Fulmer and his unconventional tactics frustrating the great Sugar Ray Robinson.

My favorite boxer is Roberto Duran and sugar Ray Robinson. Who you got and how have they influenced your style?

Well observed, they have a lot of similarities, his is often referred to as a "stonewall" guard and uses a higher left hand to cover the side of his face.

That’s smart. It’s good to examine other arts and incorporate useful tips and techniques into your own style. Especially an art like boxing that focuses only on punches. Even if you only pick up one little thing, it is worth it. I started out as a competitive boxer. After I stopped competing, I was mainly interested in becoming a well rounded fighter with my main focus on self defense, so I studied Chinese martial arts. I wanted to improve my elbow and knee strikes, and no Art is better than Muay Chaiya for those attacks. I learned so much and it’s such a beautiful art. I really hope I can one day make it to Thailand to train. I’m going to be 40 soon, and I still haven’t had the chance to visit, mainly due to money.
