Bro I'm cryin'. We saw Goompa and didn't get anything on his backstory. For those not in the know, Goompa didn't just travel the land, he was a world-champion fighter and literally invented the Multibonk move. Furthermore, he TAUGHT the Master of the Dojo in Toad Town how to fight, and his wife Gooma taught Tayce T., the Master's sister, how to cook. There's a reason why Goompa is the one to teach Mario about the battle system in the prologue. He knows everything there is to know about it.

This literally implies that Goompa (in his youth) is stronger than Bowser in his *powered up* state, because The Master, despite his poor health condition, has slightly better stats than Bowser. (Out of curiosity, where did you find this information? I only know abt the master training part. The multibonk stuff makes sense though, because Goombario learns it as his final move.)

@waffleuser It's all from in-game dialogue. The Toad who stands next to the Blue House in Toad Town has different dialogue between each chapter, most of it relating to the Master's family, and some relating to Goompa. In addition, if you tattle Tayce T. and the Master you can put together a few extra pieces of it.

@@King_Yef I figured it would be dialogue since this game has so much of it. It makes the NPCs feel so much more lively too, and I actively check back on them. I also keep Goombario as my main to use Tattle often, but even then, I still missed some of the things you mentioned, thanks for sharing.

​@waffleuser Not really. Bowser can negate Goombario's charged attacks, so who's to say he can't revert the Master to his base form? He can one shot a Stone Cap while the Master at full power takes multiple. While he may have higher attack power than Bowser, he still loses a 1 on 1.

An interesting note about Galoombas is that they look more like chestnuts than Goombas do, and that's what Goombas are named after in Japanese. That, and the fact that they're on Dinosaur Island might imply that they're the ancestors of the modern Goomba

It always cracks me up when Carlito sums up these absolutely insane story synopses for obscure media. Like that Spores Von Fungenstein overview had me dying. Not a single beat missed while being accompanied by beautiful edits. Feels so simple, yet so effective.

As a certified goomba connoisseur I have to add on at 26:40 because the Goombario actually receives a letter not long after the fight where the Red and Blue goomba brothers write about how impressed they are by Goombario's strength and ask him to be their friend. Also, it is a crime to not go over Captain Goomba (Bowser's Minions) if you're looking for goombas that tell a story. Like you mentioned in the video, Private Goomp also appears in Bowser's Minions and ends up getting saved by Captain Goomba. Captain Goomba is literally the main character of Bowser's Minions, on top of having some extra lore in Inside Story Bowser Jr.'s Quest, so you've missed out on some juicy goomba lore.

My daughter is a hardcore Goomba-fan. She saw her first one as a toddler and lost her heart for good. I have no idea how much money we've spent on Goombas during these years (she has even the special ones), but I do know that her love for them has not dimished at all.

Listen. I don’t want to point fingers at my favorite Goomba, but I will say it goes chugga chugga

The Goomba and Galoomba thing was only ever an issue in the lacalize version. The Japanese version of Super Mario World reffered to then with different name. They were called Kuribon intead of Kuribo. So it was less of a retcon and more the English version of the game correcting a localization mistake.

I hope he'll also address this really shameful Bowser's Minion's potagonist: Captain Goomba gloss-over in a later one.

2:30 So the thing is, in Japan, the Galoombas in SMW were always distinct from regular Goombas. In Japanese, the regular Goomba is "Kuribo," whereas, SMW's Galoomba is "Kuribon." It's just that when SMW was localized, this distinction was ignored, and Kuribon was just given the name Goomba, thus conflating the two species in the west. The change from "goomba" to "galoomba" in the english localization was not a retcon, but a correction of the localization. I dunno if somebody has already said this, but there's over 400 comments so I'm not going to look through them all to check. =P

This should absolutely be a series. I would watch the hell out of every single koopa, etc.

I did always find it weird that there are two different Goomba types in the Mario Galaxy games. I always thought of the other one as a Goombo tbh. The only gameplay difference is the Goombo explodes into a coin when spun, and the Goomba twirls on its head and can then be kicked for Star bits. Also, if you’re counting Octoombas, then you missed the three variations on that, being Elite Octoombas, Octoguys, and Octoboo.

@@pr0hobo Apparently, the one you're labelling as a Goombo is seen as a Micro Goomba in universe. It's weird because it's not that much smaller than the "Normal" Goomba.

While they're classified under "just a really big goomba" and only a footnote in the video, I would still like to draw attention to the Chuboombas from Bowser's Inside Story. They're big lads with Lolipops, but the interesting thing is that using Bowser's Inhale ability on them will cause him to steal their candy and eat it to restore his health... which also causes the Chuboomba to run away crying. This is arguably one of the most diabolical things that bowser can do, and undoubtedly will make the player feel like a heartless bastard.

Here are some Goombas that appear to be missing Mini Goomba: Those small yellow Goombas from Super Mario Odyssey Picture Match Part (Goomba): A puzzle peice found within a Minigame also in Odyssey that isn't alive, but is listed in the capture list so I think it counts Chuboomba: A fat Goomba found within Bowser's Inside Story that has a Lollipop that if Bowser eats, he runs away crying Jailgoon: A robot made by Fawlful that holds either a Goomba or a Bomb-omb Elite Goombule: Goombules who wear helmets that can only be defeated by the shell ability Goomba Gaurds: 2 Goombas in episode 1 of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 Sneaky Lying Giant Ninja Koopas, They wear Ninja Headbands and only reveal a painting of Prince Hugo the Huge Goombas from Super Mario Bros. (1993): They where rebellious subjects in Bowser's kingdom that got "De-evoled" into mindless Zombies that had arms and where nightmere fuel, Toad was also one of these people, but he was different because he still rebelled by helping Daisy Oragami Galoomba: Same thing as the Oragami Goomba from Paper Mario The Oragami King and also has many variations Paper Macho Goomba: A giant paper mache Goomba made by Olly to create Not-So-Bottomless holes and reak havoc on the Mushroom Kingdom, also in Paper Mario The Oragami King Small Goomba Gang: Groups of Small Goombas found in Paper Mario Color Splash Accordion Goomba: A Group of Goombas that came together to form an Accordion, also in Color Splash Goomba Wheel: A group of Goombas that joined together to form a wheel, they appear in multiple games and have different variations, like the Small Wheel Goomba 5 Fold Paragoomba: Essentially Wheel Goomba with wings Stiletto Goomba: A shoe Goomba with a Stiletto instead of a shoe, Found in Super Mario Maker 2 And last but not least, 8-Bit Goomba: A Goomba also found in Color Splash that's found inside the Mario Bros. 3 area, however I never found an official name for them other then the fact that the Mario wiki lists then under the 8-bit section just titled Goomba. So that's some Goombas I'd thought I mention, but just because their all Goombas doesn't mean we can't be, so follow your Goomba led dreams and live your best life.

What about the secret Goomba in sunshine?

Goombario was an interesting character because it was my first contact with the fact that goombas aren't just minions to Bowser, some of them can just do their things and stuff and not care with Bowser, as a kid I was surprised

Another detail about the Jack o Goomba. They can tank one hit from Starman Mario These dudes have a super insane pumpkin helmet they are able to survive one strike from one of the most unstoppable forces in the series

I can’t believe you glanced over the Goombrat’s behavior! Turning around at ledges, they’re the Red Koopa equivalent of Goombas, as well as Goombuds to Galoombas. Otherwise, very informative Goomba lore 👌

I am soooo depressed you missed my favorite goomba variant. The mini-goomba. While on the surface, the mini-goomba may just looks like a regular goomba only slightly smaller and occasionally with a yellow coloring, what's interesting about these guys is they are the only creature in the mario multiverse _outside of the burrbos_ that are CONFIRMED to not have a soul (which is why they cannot be captured in mario odyssey). Please pin so everyone can know about this awesome goomba variant.

The super Mario world goombas are interesting. They even appeared in the party series and mainline Mario games along time after advance. At least they returned after some years. Great

The original Goomba sprite took up just as much space as the mushroom sprite, as it would've still required an entirely new sprite. The space saving measure was the fact that the walking animation was accomplished by just flipping that one sprite horizontally.

0:50 and to put even more perspective into how little data the OG goomba uses, not only is it a rehashed mushroom sprite, its also only a single sprite that's mirrored on a timer to give it the illusion of walking.

The Aqua Goombas always creeped me out when I was a kid. That game had so much weird horror themed content in it it was great lol

something to note about galoombas is that they were always a different species in Japan (Kuriboh vs Kuribon)

For a second I didn’t think you were gonna mention chuboomba but you did and I’m thankful for that

FINALLY!! We need more videos like this to help differentiate different types and species of goombas as well as discuss goomba history, thank you Carlito, for being one who cares about the Goombas. Also sorry but I hate to be That goomba, but in Mario Galaxy 1 the goombas did own their own planet before the Jack O' Goombas did, but its not shape like a jack o lantern its shaped like a yoshi head. Ok thats it thank you again >:)
