I prefer Oliver from season 1 when he would kill with no hesitation and care, after season 1 he got softer

I personally like that he eventually transitioned out of killing (even though he was certainly badass when he was in Season1) because it felt like a natural arc for him and also brought him closer to the comic book persona. But hey I loved I’m in season 1 too, so more power to you 👍

He may have gotten 'softer' but they did give an explanation as to why, which he says in the intro of season 2. He wants to honor his friend Tommy, but in order to do that, he can't be the killer he was before.

S1 Oliver is the best version of the character, while S2 is the best season of Arrow as a whole.

The one issue i had with season 2 that made season 3 even worse was Thea. When she learned that Malcolm was her father she acts as if Oliver knew her whole life when he just found out a couple weeks prior and knew it was too late to tell her the truth and was right as she reacted exactly how he thought she would upon learning that Malcolm was her father. Not just that, she couldn't piece together why Oliver was acting rude to Moira upon learning the truth? She then became this self righteous person who thought the truth was all they needed when I'm sorry, secrets are necessary sometimes to protect people. Her attitude cost Oliver money because she didn't sign in time. And this carried on in season 3 where she continued to hold Oliver and Roy in contempt for lying to her, yet here she is lying to them about Malcolm, becoming a complete hypocrite and is never called out on it. Thea left such a bad taste in my mouth after season 2 that i predicted it was ger who killed Sara in episode 2, thinking that they were going to reveal Malcolm told her tge truth about Oliver as the Arrow and she felt even more betrayed that she wanted revenge on the people who kept in her in the dark. That's how much i thought Thea became such a high and mighty lying hypocrite.

yeah im rewatching it now and that part makes 0 sense. the idea that she becomes an assassin right after is beyond ridiculous. She becomes this "burn it all down" person which is so ridiculous

Thea is an issue in every season. Don't go hating on season 2 specifically.

I haven’t watched all the seasons cus I gave up after season 4, but season 2 was definitely the best. The characters were all over the place within the last seasons so I passed on them.

after rewatching the show again, i decided to watch all these reviews about arrow, flash, supergirl, etc. this has to be one of, if not THE best video i’ve seen on the entire show. i’m a sucker for long videos, and this is literally everything i could ask for. an in depth dive on the things this show does well, what it doesn’t do so well, and everything in between. i love this video. truly. it’s amazing, and it should definitely be watched way more than it has been

Weird take but I personally believe that season 6 is much worse than any other season as season 6 is just absolute crap and the whole season is just Diaz it's so stupidly repetitive and just overall horrible. At least season 4 had maybe 20 minutes of salvageable footage. Additionally, I preferred season 3 over 4 as it's got a good 2-3 episodes which are alright. Other than that, I have to say I slightly prefer season 1 over season 2 but not in a major degree and to be honest the whole Helena Bertenelli (Huntress) scenes were just horrible! So perhaps with that consideration season 2 is better overall. I just prefer the whole dynamic of the season 1 fight scenes, especially the hallway scene and loved when they brought it back for one last time in season 8.

I respectfully highly disagree on your lower rankings, to me s06 and s07 are equally interchangeable at the very bottom and even if I love the actor and he did feel like a treat, I really didn't enjoy Diaz findinding him to be annoying instead, s03 and s04 are also interchangeable next cause there are both great and positive things and awful and negative ones... and I LOVED Damien Dharke as a villain (just not so much what they did around him) then s08 was great but just couldn't measure to the last few being in that order : s05, s01 and ofc s02 !! 🙂

Here's my ranking: 1. Season 2 2. Season 1 3. Season 5 4. Season 4 5. Season 3 6. Season 8 7. Season 7 8. Season 6 I honestly only liked the first 5 seasons of Arrow. I didn't care about the last 3. One of the things I liked about the show was how almost every episode had flashbacks of Oliver's 5 years of hell. So that whole structure about going back and forth between his past and present made Arrow's storytelling so compelling. I do agree that Seasons 3 and 4 are weak, but I don't think they're as atrocious as everyone says. Season 4's low points were lower than Season 3, but its high points were higher than Season 3, and that's what gave it an edge for me.

I didn’t watch the series while it was still in production but decided to watch on Netflix this year (2024). I hated s4 so much I quit in the middle of episode 8, read the episode synopses online, then watched the finale (“Schism”). It felt like the right thing to do. Now I’m watching season 5.

Something a lot of these seasons lacked was a great villain. Malcolm was amazing Slade was perfect Ras was scary at first but became a little generic in the end. Damien Dark should’ve been way too powerful for the team. Adrian Chase was perfect. Cayden James and Diaz were a disgrace. Emiko was just a plot twist gone wrong.

I'm sorry to say but I ever-so-slightly prefer season 1. I don't like the Helena Bertenelli scenes. However, the season 1 fight scene coordination is unmatched it's just far too good. I suppose that it's purely up-to whether you slightly put action at the top or whether you put the storyline up a bit more. Season 2 has better story overall but season 1 fight scenes are the best for sure!

I just came over from The Black Lion's ranking of the Arrow seasons and he put season 5 at #1 which is baffling to me. I know you said that you could understand people putting seasons 1, 2, and 5 interchangeably in the top 3, but you went into detail as to why they are in the order that they are.

Yeah but he was practically non existent until ep 15 when he actually started to appear on a consistent basis. He was good when he got shit to do but the league stuff felt so rushed and crammed together in the final 3rd of the season; because of wasting so much time on other storylines and Olicity drama instead of developing an enemy they’ve been teasing/setting up since S1.

The WORST part of season 4 was everything to do with Damien Dhark. He was boring, Oliver had like 5 different fights, where Oliver shows up, fails becase magic, and then escapes. Showing up again in a episode or two, with no changes. It happens repeatedly.

I thought the flashbacks were the best part on season 4.

I liked her in Season 5, but when Earth-2 Laurel became a more prominent character she became either sidelined like in season 8 or given awful storylines such as getting vengeance for vince and her dislike for E2 Laurel in season 7 Her character was basically a stand in for Laurel, who was brought in cause the writers realised they messed up by killing of Laurel in season 4. When they got Katie Cassidy back as a regular, she became a bit redundant

@@MuleKick_Media with laurel, I don’t think they thought it was a mistake. I think the actress didn’t want to leave but they had wrote so badly there was nothing they could do with her. She was addict and then she trained for a few weeks, to go out and fight ninja assassins. They had to get rid of the character, bring in a more dangerous one that could maybe do more for different shows. That’s why they brought her in as a villain with a super power. So she was convincing physically. Also made it easier to write for her because she was written a redemption story. Earth 2 laurel was way better I thought. Dinah was ok in season 5 I guess but I just never liked her. I really just didn’t like her in the rest of the show and I found the actress to be a bit snobby and not very good actor. Which the arrow verse didn’t have the best material to work with always.
